"I want her,” another woman’s voice cut in. “Agatha!” Lilia cried out and spun on her heel, not even bothering to hide the alarmed tone in her voice.

Rio’s head jerked around, trying to discern which of the women in the crowd Lilia was gawking at. Then, Rio saw her. The curly-haired brunette stood up from her chair with a smile playing on her full lips. Even from a distance, Rio could see piercing blue eyes boring into Lilia, daring her to challenge her.

“I want her,” Agatha repeated, turning her full attention to Rio. Rio could feel the heat rising up her neck and into her cheeks as their eyes met across the room, causing her stomach to flip.

Dear god, who is she? Direct, confident and beautiful women were Rio’s weakness. And every inch of this woman radiated unflinching confidence. And holy shit, even in this horribly lifeless gray room, she was impossibly stunning. Rio felt it deep in her chest. Resisting whatever magnetism that was drawing her in was pointless. She was about to agree to whatever this woman wanted.

-or- Agatha is a successful music artist auditioning band members for a huge tour. Rio is a drummer who's never booked a gig. One viral video later, and she's in Agatha's band.

Agatha’s eyes narrowed to slits. “You are so—”

“Charming? Irresistible?” Rio sipped her iced coffee with a wink. The straw made a rude little squeak.

“I was going to say unbearable.”

At that moment, Lilia appeared behind them like a ghost conjured by sarcasm and suffering. She didn’t stop walking. Just grabbed her teacup from the shelf, gave them both a once-over, and said mildly:

    “Tension’s thicker than a V chord.”

Agatha teaches Classical Music, Rio teaches Modern Music, and they can't stand each other; until they have to work together to open the end-of-year concerto.
Agatha wants Vivaldi, Rio wants Metallica, and Lilia is their biggest supporter.

“There’s an empty seat a few rows ahead, I’m sure you’d prefer it there,” Agatha says in a sugary tone, pointing a patronizing finger like she’s teaching a child their left from right.

The woman tilts her head. “You mean the one next to the lizard guy with the neck tattoo? That’s where you’d like me to sit?”

Yes, exactly. Agatha thinks, rather rudely.

“Yes, exactly!” she praises condescendingly. “I’m so glad we’re on the same page.”

The woman doesn’t budge. Even worse, she’s sporting an infuriating smirk, like she sees right through Agatha’s bravado and is waiting for it to crack.

Agatha closes her eyes. Is the universe out to get her this weekend? Has she not suffered enough aboard this sardine tin on wheels?

OR: Agatha is alone on a train—a wildfire in her eyes, teeth bared in challenge.
Rio dares to sit beside her, warms her hands on the flames, unafraid of the sting.
