Her mother only managed a gasp, her eyes filling with tears.
Luz swallowed the bitter pills of all her feelings. She’d already made her mother cry.
Despite the disaster inside her, Luz forced a smile onto her face—her mother deserved at least a smile, after all Luz had done. “Hey, Mom…” She forced out. Tears were trying to surge from her eyes, her voice turned shaky with the threat of sobs.
“I’m back…!”
