It’s New Year’s Eve, and for some godforsaken reason Chris’s coffee shop is still open. Don’t ask him why. He’s looking forward to going back home at the end of the night and ringing in the new year with tea and a book, decidedly away from the world -
Except that’s not what’s going to happen.
When an accident and a shelter-in-place order traps Chris, Dennis, five customers, and two civilians inside the shop, it soon becomes clear they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Spending the night together seems like such a daunting task. But despite all the rocky starts and rocky middles, they're determined to make it through. After all, the new year is meant to bring with it a sort of magic - friendships, fights, and alongside it all, the smell of coffee beans.

“Chris, cut the bull,” Trevor said bluntly, a bit sharper than he’d intended. “You show up at my door at half to twelve, soaked to the bone and—did you walk here?” he cut himself off to ask as the thought struck him.
Chris frowned, as if he couldn’t remember. “I—I suppose I did,” he admitted.

“All right, Chris?” Trevor said quietly, keeping going with the circles. Chris’s hands were soft in his, a little warmer now than they had been before.
It took a second for Chris to register that Trevor was speaking to him. He blinked his eyes open, slowly, like a cat waking up from a long nap. “All right,” he said at last, the softest Trevor had ever heard him talk. His eyes had gone vague, staring at their interlocked hands. There was a half-sliver of a fond smile on his face.
It was then, and only then, that Trevor finally realized: he recognized that look and that tone of voice and that smile.
He didn’t really have the luxury of fully processing the concept that he had just (accidentally) (platonically) dommed his boss, ex-flatmate, and current crush object effectively enough that Chris was visibly out of it from having his wrists tied. From the looks of it, you’d think hardly anyone ever touched Chris kindly, or told him that he was doing a good job—
Oh. Yeah. Christ. That made sense, then.
