Shen Yuan is at a bar when he spots the prettiest man he's ever seen; tears are threatening to spill out across his unfairly gorgeous face, and the expression of misery and despair is enough to tug at Shen Yuan's heartstrings and have him immediately walking over, ready to offer anything he could possibly do to help.
Luo Binghe, the young man who has abruptly begun finding his way into Shen Yuan's heart, has just been dumped by his partner, and has just lost his place to live - but most importantly, he's expressing doubt and self-hatred at himself, and Shen Yuan Will Not Have That.
Not when Shen Yuan can tell that Luo Binghe, behind all of his despair, is good; that he is clever, is so many things, but also-

Promise, as in the Promise within Binghe, that he could be good and be loved, with support and belief and trust-
Promise, as in how marriage is a Promise between two people; a promise to support each other, to take care of each other, to love each other-It was just too bad; Luo Binghe no longer believes in Promises, and Shen Yuan doesn't believe that any efforts he makes to uphold a Promise could ever really be worth anything.
(It was a good thing, then, that they each now had the chance to prove the other wrong... if they could only let themselves dare to try.)- Words:

It’s a fool-proof plan. Their SOUL has become the vehicle by which some great otherworldly force steals their body. No SOUL, no puppeting— they’ve already proven that. So fuck all the plans that Carol has about opening Dark Worlds, and fuck all the plans that the thing living in their SOUL has about making them hurt people. Berdly’s in a goddamn coma, and Noelle was made to put him there, and it’s only going to get worse. Kris is done. They’ve got their own plan. It’s a great plan. They send Susie home early, and then they drag out their SOUL, and they stuff it in a tin, and then they throw it in the goddamn river.
