Judit sighed and set the receiver back in its cradle. The long-empty setting of her cheap wedding ring caught the light as she moved, almost as if to mock her. With steely resolve, she slipped the ring off her finger and dropped it into her backpack.
Just outside the tiny township of Haute Espérance, deep in the Old-Old South, two stranded RCM officers find themselves in unexpectedly close quarters for the night. Jean overcompensates for a past indiscretion, Judit has a long-overdue epiphany, and they both get to be a little bit selfish.
