Life is a strategy game for Thomas, always has been. He prides himself on his intellect: the ability to step back, evaluate each detail logically, and make the most rational, thoughtful decision. But there is no intellectualizing what's happening between him and Micro. There's no rational explanation for the feeling in Thomas's gut whenever Micro so much as looks in his direction. In the aftermath of Oakhurst, Abolish returns to work, but finds himself joined by two very familiar faces. "Done with those lunatics," he definitely was not. Still, he's got a job to do, and he's going to stick at it, even with two divorced-situationship/whatever-the-hell vampires flanking him. Abolish can be professional about the whole thing. His two new coworkers, however...
AU in which Owen and Legs both survive VSMP and join Abolish in the shadow organisation. Neither are coping with working with the other in a remotely normal fashion.

Shelby stood on the top of the lake’s tower, still reeling from the thrill of teleporting to their scarlet beacon, breathing in the fresh air and soaking in the sun. They turned, a massive, toothy grin on their face and determination in their heart. Scott, Pyro, and Owen loomed behind her.
“Okay, guys! No more being grumpy,” Shelby exclaimed. “It’s beach time!”
The two oldest vampires leveled her with an unimpressed look.
“Shelby, this is a lake.”

Summary
Avid rushes out into the centre of town, stake in hand, Drift on his tail, and Apo not far behind. The townsfolk – vampires and humans alike – hover at the edges, some taking refuge from the furious, bloody figure on the steps of the tavern, others sticking close to the beacon’s tower, using the strength to their benefit. As he comes to a skidding stop, the figure looks up, and Owen bares his fangs, eyes flashing crimson.
“Who is this?” He snarls, throwing an arm out to the mutilated corpse beneath him. “And what were they doing in my forest?”
Swallowing fearfully, Avid slowly but surely drops his gaze. There, crumpled beneath the vampire lays a body. It’s split, twisted wrongly with bones poking out at angles Avid’s certain they should never be bent to. At his side, Apo curses weakly, muttering out a headcount whilst Drift sucks in a horrified breath. There’s too much blood to tell who it could possibly be, but one thing is for certain; that person is well and truly dead.

Or: Avid opens a... "bakery", Cleo becomes the somewhat official mayor of Oakhurst, and the town puts aside their differences with the vampires as a war brews steadily on the horizon.

Avid paused, looking back at Drift. “Vampires?” He echoed, voice thin. The wood was clearly to defend against creatures that would throw themselves against windows, to block out the awful noises. “Who would care about vampires?”
Vampires, what was that about again? Avid cast his mind back, mind feeling a million miles away.
Her weak smile faded away. Replaced with concern. “But you talked about them all the time. That we should be protecting ourselves from them.”
Legundo turns his head back, voice grave. Both gaze at Drift, eyes in shadows. “There are far worse things in the dark to be afraid of.”
Three days. That’s how long they were missing. Twelve weeks. That’s how long they were in the fungal apocalypse.

No, he did not introduce himself as Captain Ashswag, one of the most dangerous pirates alive, probably the most wanted person on the seas. That was a little fact that had not been mentioned, so now Red had been kidnapped by him, and forced to betray the entire Navy, to the Captain Ashswag.
What had he gotten himself into?
or: Red gets kidnapped by an infamous pirate captain, and becoming a pirate is starting to sound like a good idea.
