    Hob Gadling had worked as a professor in London for some years. It had always been the same routine each semester, each day. Every day he returns to the same flat, the same deafening silence.

    After several years at the university, Hob meets a strange colleague. Something feels familiar about him, but it is impossible that they know each other. Hob would have remembered the mysterious and shut-off stranger had they met before. He would know of he had run into the same emotional walls before as he tried to strike up a conversation with the entirely disinterested man.
    Nevertheless, they cannot avoid one another as they continuously meet on campus. Neither can Hob deny that this stranger looks quite appealing from some angles.
