    The curse wasn’t always a town, it wasn’t anything at all when Rumplestiltskin got his hands on it. He had to add that part in himself. The world was enough in the beginning, that was where he was going to stop. What did he care for who got caught in things so long as he was in one piece and where he wanted to be.

    The town had come to fruition after Rumple met Rose. He wanted to create a space for her that was hers. Somewhere she didn’t have to worry about people relying on her, somewhere they could be without past prejudices and expectations. It was a wedding gift, not that she would ever know it. And that had made the decision easier as well, knowing that she would never know this meant she couldn’t use it to hurt him. (She would find many other terrible ways to hurt him later.)

    And the town itself accommodated Rose, giving her what she needed without much fuss, making sure that she had an easy and comfortable life. But now the people in it were remembering her, and her terrible choices. As much as the town was built for her, it didn’t matter if the people in it hated her.
