Greatly inspired by Haïta the Shepherd by Ambrose Bierce.
Avery is a cheerful, obedient shepherd tending to his flock of slimesheep, worshiping Hastur, the God of Shepherds, diligently and faithfully. Life is peaceful, slow, and perfect. But one day, Hastur asks Avery to find Derek, a renowned shepherd who suddenly went missing after trying to find a lost sheep.
What will happen when Avery sets off to find this mysterious shepherd? What would cause such a responsible man like Derek to abandon his sheep? Why did Derek vanish without a trace?
And who's this handsome fisherman that Avery keeps running into?
This fic will be more fluffier and lighter than my other one (Each Mortal Has His Carcassonne), but as a lover of drama, I WILL be going to some rough spots and take things as far as I can.
TW FOR: Religious trauma, human sacrifice, violence, cosmic horror, mental breakdowns, and Derek fumbling Avery for over 400 chapters.

Hell is too small a word.
Too neat.
Too contained.What D3rlord3 endured had no limit, no containment. It was messy, sloppy and overwhelmingly too much.
It followed him home and made itself comfortable inside his thoughts, whispering truths, false statements and knowledge that no mortal human should know about that he didn't ask for peel him apart from the inside. Slowly turning him into someone he doesn't recognize anymore. A shell of the man he once was.
He is alive in the technical sense only—functioning, breathing, breaking slowly while a King, a God, a Monster, a Eldritch Horror, watched his every move, keeping him alive for a reason he did not know.
Or at least thats what he was going to keep telling himself.

To even gaze upon the king's chosen vessel was sacrilege, but lord Derek cannot resist a small peek.
