So far high school was nothing like what Layla Williams had imagined it was a cruel ecosystem that slapped a Hero or Sidekick label on you to decide your worth. To make things worse at home the relationship with her mother was growing colder and more distant, a wall of silence that Layla didn't know how to break hanging over them. And then there was Will Stronghold her bestfriend since kindergarten, her confidant, the sweet boy with she had planned—at least in her head—a whole life was becoming a total stranger he barely spent time with her or their old group anymore; he preferred the attention of the so-called "heroes," and of course, Gwen Grayson. After an exhausting week, the breaking point came on a Thursday night. It wasn't a grand blowout, just a cold plate of food as she sat alone at a table for two in her favorite restaurant. Will never showed up. The humiliation of being forgotten by the person she relied on most was the final blow.That was the moment Warren Peace appeared. the "future villain" with fire in his veins and a reputation to match the boy everyone warned to stay away from was the one who saw the disaster in her eyes. Who would have thought the school’s rebel could be so kind outside of it?
