He expects Obi-Wan to counter this, continue their conversation until Anakin gives him a different, honest answer. But he doesn't. He just nods, and then continues eating. Anakin opens his mouth as if to tell him to ask him again, then closes it without speaking. He tells himself to be happy that Obi-Wan is back, and that Anakin is off the hook.
For now, the voice in his head whispers. He resists the urge to cover his ears with his hands.

On the way to New Orleans, Daniel finds a curve. The curve in the sharp way Jack smiles, the curve in his voice as he asks for one more drink, the curve of his skin as he bends just the way Daniel wants him to. Something funcioningly, fulfillingly transactional.
It works. Daniel wants it to work, for a little longer at the very least - so it has to keep working.

“I wouldn’t expect you to know much about it, actually. I mean,” Danny laughs at him with a strained grimace, probably hoping for it to come across as rakish and mean, “you’re not that big yourself.”
Jack crooks his eyebrow at him. “Right. At this point, that’s all water under the bridge for me, unfortunately for you. Try again.”
“W-well,” Danny stutters, quickly growing red in the face. Easy now, Jack thinks and tries not to laugh. “You wouldn’t be saying that if you had one. The ladies love it.”
Alright. The laugh bursts out of him unbidden and unrestrained. And Danny, if at all possible, grows even redder in the face.

Leaping up from his chair Obi-Wan whirled around, knees unsteady beneath him as he came face to face with the person in the corner. He was tucked away in the shadows, most of his form hidden save for the terrible height of him, almost monstrous in stature. Gripping the edge of his desk Obi-Wan stilled himself from reaching for the blade, even as the adrenaline coursing through him bayed him to act.
“Who are you?” Obi-Wan asked quickly.
“You’re the one who summoned me…” The demon’s voice was soft like silk, wrapping around Obi-Wan’s heart to squeeze it. “You know, it’s not very wise to summon a demon if you don’t even know their name.”
