亚当的手从祂黑色卷发上滑下去，轻柔抚摸祂那截透过薄薄皮肤支棱出来的后颈骨。祂想到的是光辉纪元的第一天，阿蒙撕破祂的肚子爬出来。那时候阿蒙那样小，小到祂单手就可以托住。神话生物的成长是个很缓慢的过程，大约需要几百年，或者上千年，好像骨骼永远无法正式定型，身形永远正在充盈。而因为这漫长的生长期，祂们的少年和成年在生理和心理上的界限模糊不清地混合在一起。在上一个纪元时，假使祂们分离的时间够长，祂会察觉出阿蒙又长高了几厘米。但是阿蒙的成长终止于光辉纪元的巅峰，在那之后，祂未曾变过分毫。祂不会再长高，不会再长大，也不会变老，而是永远停留在男孩成为男人的那个过渡中。祂知道阿蒙一直都是一个孩子——祂长成，却从未成长; 祂成年，却不能成熟。“让我们沦落到这种境地的人会付出代价，我向你保证，”祂俯身在阿蒙额头上轻轻烙下一吻，“但是现在，阿蒙，再忍忍，再忍忍，等时候到了，我会帮助你成为那位诡秘之主……”
