𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩. 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩, 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯!
Or so they say the people cried when, decades ago, the ground opened to swallow the city of London whole. For many of the rejects of that repressed, respectable age, the Neath represented the highest of freedoms.
From clocks, from space, from light, from death itself. The million darknesses to be found on the vast, glittering Zee. It was delicious, then, and full of novelty.
We call it the Neath now. But those who first Fell, who first experienced the sharp shock of death, and suddenly felt themselves alive, who knew for the first time what it meant to be free— they gave it a different name.
They said, voices hushed in wonder, that we were in Elysium.

They say it's the only way to get real flowers down here.
They say it's an experiment by the Masters on London.
They say it's a revenge plot by Hell. They say the Manager of the Royal Bethlehem caught it, and that's why he never appears in polite society. They say a plague of it precedes the fall of each city. They say that, if you get it, your only choices are to confess or become a permanent companion of the boatman. They say you lose yourself, either way.
Whatever you do, they say, don't fall in love.

“He took everything from me.” She said, a hint of bitter grief creeping into her voice. “But I took everything from him first. His creation was the greatest act of violence I ever inflicted.”
She looked out at the zee for a moment, lost in her thoughts, before turning back to me. “I’m sorry, Captain Walton. I owe you a story.”
...
Basically: What if Mary Shelley's Frankenstein took place in Fallen London and also Victor Frankenstein was a woman? Despite the stupid title I'm taking this premise deadly serious so expect lots of death and angst :)

Summary
"In philosophy and rhetoric, eristic (from Eris, the ancient Greek goddess of chaos, strife, and discord) refers to argument that aims to successfully dispute another's argument, rather than searching for truth. According to T.H. Irwin, "It is characteristic of the eristic to think of some arguments as a way of defeating the other side, by showing that an opponent must assent to the negation of what he initially took himself to believe." Eristic is arguing for the sake of conflict, as opposed to resolving conflict."
A fixture of high Society, the Jovial Contrarian is much admired and little loved. The story of his life is a dialectic with no synthesis.
A bit of a character study that got out of hand, with gratuitously self-indulgent characterization.
