There are things that Victor has seen in the Residental Sector that are better off in the murky depths of his memory. Things that are better left unbothered, otherwise they'll thrash and writhe, stirring up mud and all of the other terrible things down there. They start tugging at the further edges of his thoughts and beg, howling, to be let in again. Then that chest-squeezing fear will rear its ugly head, leaving him with the sense that any one of those awful things could happen to him, too.

“What? Was that not apology enough?" Deimos questioned, flipping out both palms in indignation. "You want me to get on my knees and suck forgiveness out of you, Sanford!?"
Sanford froze with a hand on the door, eyes still locked onto Deimos. What the fuck? But at the same time, what had he really been expecting? This was Deimos, after all. Sanford could admit that the idea of getting Deimos on his knees had a certain appeal to it. He shook his head, dropping his hand off the door.
Sanford reached out and gripped Deimos by his shoulder, pressing a messy, open-mouthed kiss to his lips. Sanford slid his hands down from Deimos' shoulders to his waist, pulling him closer.

It’s scarce work, clients are fickle and tend not to be patient, they’ll drop him for someone with better availability if he lags on a project. He picks through offers, grabs the short and easy stuff and gets single digit payments for transcribing videos, correcting software patches, helping some kid on the other side of the planet with their math homework.
When his rig was fresher, he did bigger stuff. Better stuff.
Less legal stuff.
And that’s what that message was about.
