“I’m very familiar with your ego. Tell me anyway. Unless you’d rather discuss this with Sirius or Remus. Or anyone really. You need to talk to us.” Regulus frowns at his still moving hands so he quickly places them on the table.
“I-’ James bites his lip. ‘Why are you touching me?” Is what comes out.
Regulus leans back with a flash of hurt. “I can move.”
“No I mean- you don’t like touching me so why are you touching me now?”
Regulus tilts his head and James waits patiently for him to sort his thoughts. Regulus slowly reaches out and grabs his hand then puts it on his own hip. Immediately James feels him tense and Regulus lasts a second then pushes his hand away.
“Oh. Sorry.’ Regulus fidgets with his rings, still in his lap. ‘I didn’t realise I did that.”
“You don’t.’ He clears his throat and adverts his eyes. ‘At least not for Sirius or your friends.”

Summary
James doesn’t even think about it. He’s over so much and they are always happy to see him. He bounces in and gets his shoes and jacket off before he realises anything is different. Regulus is in striped pants, a Warlock’s Hairy Heart shirt, fluffy socks and is playing with a train set on the ground.
“James.’ Regulus smiles brightly and starts bouncing up and down. ‘James James James James James.”
“Hey Reggie.’ He looks around concernedly then slowly sits by him. ‘Where’s Sirius?”
“In the shower. I hafta be a good boy.” Regulus giggles.
James frowns slightly. Regulus never giggles. He wears black pants and black t-shirts with black socks to bed. He never slurs words. James teases him about his articulation and he just exaggerates it more.
Regulus holds a train out and looks at him shyly hopeful. “Play?”
James puts a smile on his face. “Sure Reg.”
Regulus shakes his head. “Reggie.”
“Reggie.” James nods and they play with trains. Which James never thought he would do with Regulus Black.

“You’ll still come around for dinner and what not won’t you?” Regulus frowns at the genuine worry in Sirius’ voice. Then he sees Andromeda and her 7-year-old. Andromeda who got married and was disowned. Andromeda who hasn’t seen her sister since the day Narcissa got married. Andromeda whose other sister they only saw twice since she got married.
Regulus gets married and doesn't understand why Sirius seems so bothered by it, then he does and he makes a point to fix it.
