Summary
What if there were actual consequences to Izuku’s health following the sludge villain incident? After Katsuki’s own experience with the sludge villain, he finds Izuku in critical condition as a result of everything that happened to him that day. Now Izuku has been given a year to live- if he’s lucky, which let’s face it, when has that ever happened, and Katsuki is getting a front row seat to just how bad the discrimination his childhood best friend has been dealing with for the past decade really is. Toshinori reaches a hand, the one that is shattered beyond repair and drenched in blood. He gives a smile to the boy. He can feel blood smeared across his teeth. He can't imagine his smile is any reassurance, but Toshinori is dying and desperate. A piss-poor smile is all he can give.
A piss-poor smile, and an earth-shattering quirk.
'I have a healing quirk,' he lies, begging the boy with his eyes. Please, say yes. Please accept my DNA. 'It only works on others. Let me h-help you? I won't last.' Toshinori's words come more and more haltingly. He can feel cold darkness encroaching on his limbs already. He tilts his hand, just slightly, just enough to renew his offer to the boy. 'At-At least… Not long enough… For help to arrive in time.'

Yagi Toshinori gets caught in a building collapse in his powered-down form. As he lays dying and without a successor, he offers his quirk to a young boy who is trapped alongside him.
All Might never makes it out of the building. But Midoriya Izuku does.
With no parent and a new limb-breaking quirk, he becomes a ward of UA.

Izuku Midoriya, walking home after a rough day of school, one of the people he thinks the most of in his life having been the one to ruin the afternoon. at least, he thought Katsuki Bakugo was the one who would ruin his day. but when he's attacked by a villain who's quirk allows him to take possession of a body, his entire life is flipped on it's side, threatening to topple over the edge and into the void of no return.

Izuku had faced many troubling incidents while at UA, there was no doubt. In fact, their class had smashed the record for most villain attacks experienced by the time they were halfway through their first year.
Although, he couldn’t help but feel that what he faced in high school didn’t quite compare to his first incident in middle school. No matter how many times he woke up in a cold sweat, arms numb like he relived his fight against Muscular, or feeling the aftereffects of the dry, itchy sensation as five fingers pressed down against his neck, nothing ever seemed to compare to the pure terror and fear pelting through his veins like a freight train and retching feeling in his lungs.
To most people, the Sludge Villain incident victims only involved Kacchan, with him rushing in to save his friend. He kept the truth of that day a closely guarded secret, holding the real events close to his heart in fear of the fallout.

UA. It was always my dream to be in UA. And to be a hero, nonetheless. I was always told by everyone around me that it was impossible, but something in the back of my mind told me it wasn’t. I don’t know what’s gotten into me. Ever since that sludge villain in the sewage, I feel like I was missing something. Something important that was supposed to happen just didn’t happen.I fell unconscious in the middle of the attack, then I woke up again still in that sewage, my bag and items scattered everywhere. At least my notebooks are in good condition— even though Kacchan recently threw #14 in the river for the fish to feed on. But it’s still readable…I guess. Probably not, but I can re-make it. Yeah.
I wonder who saved me— it’s too bad I wasn’t conscious to see in time. Maybe someday I’ll meet the mysterious hero, if it even was a hero, in that case. Maybe it was just another civilian that passed by and helped me out, but I doubt someone would rush into action like that.
