It was amazing how much a pen and paper could accomplish. It could form alliances, bring forth peace, create a new world, express an idea, share a new invention, and so on. The only limit to the use of a pen and paper was the holder’s imagination. That was why Arthur had decided to use them to finally express his feelings properly.

Being alone wasn’t so bad, Arthur had reasoned. But for every claim that he was happier alone, the empty feeling in his heart only seemed to grow. He still had friends and family though, through the years they, all had distanced themselves from him (or in some cases, Arthur had distanced himself from them). Through it all, Arthur carried on, keeping his heart and true feelings heavily guarded. That was until a certain blond nation waltzed into his life.

He was right in the middle of his book when the smoke alarm went off. Ludwig looked up, blinking for a moment, confused by what could have set it off. His question was quickly answered when the smell of something burning hit his nose and smoke started to seep out of the kitchen.
