But every once in a while, some weirdos will claim to have seen those beings with their very own eyes, explaining in details their encounter to the local news. Charles never really pays attention to them, they've already received enough when they make it on the next issue of the newspaper.
That is, until he himself becomes one of them. Now he knows why they act the way they do. Maybe not in the same way, but in similar fashion for sure. From what he's seen, it drives other people mad, but with Charles, it drives him into a love spiral.
