“Liam is my perfect intellectual rival,” he nodded, “and a help in understanding your behaviour better. You have always interested me,” he added, “aesthetically, emotionally, and I was curious whether, with the right means, I could turn your hatred toward me into something else once I understood its origin. Now I understand, so we can work on the solution.” Sherlock tilted his head to the side, the dark strands framing his face brushing against his neck on one side and Louis’s arm on the other. Sherlock stroked Louis’s chin, and shivered again when the mouth that was always pressed into a grim line curved into a smile.
“Aesthetically? You’re mocking me, Mr Holmes.” Before he could defend himself, Louis silenced him. “If you truly dared to use William as an excuse, for which I ought to kill you as well, that’s fine. A small price to pay to keep you from getting closer to him,” he sighed, but the breath he released spoke not of resignation, only of readiness, “however, we play by my rules.”

“Will…” Albert was not sure what he wanted to say. He wanted to push him away, as the only right choice left to him, yet at the same time he did not want to. The temptation was too strong, and once again he fell victim to William’s influence. He had no idea what his brother’s intention was, but he could resist neither him nor himself. Albert moaned softly, in quiet suffering, as he felt William’s breath against his lips.
"It’s all right," William repeated, letting go of his wrist and intertwining their fingers as he had in the study. "Do as you wish. I’ve been waiting for a long time."

“Just relax, my dear Albert,” he asked, not moving away from his lips even as he spoke, and when Albert moaned from the play of his fingers, William closed his eyes and kissed him again.

“Aren’t they fools at other times?”
Louis asked in that earlier cold tone, so unlike his usual voice.
Sherlock said nothing, but Louis pressed on.
“Or have you, perhaps, become a lot smarter than you were before?”Louis gets to know both sides of Sherlock and, along the way, kind of forgets about himself. In the end, they even manage to solve a case together.

At times it was enough if, during afternoon tea, they looked at each other from opposite sides of the table, and William’s ever colder and harder heart was able to warm a little.
While he was in New York, he was constantly cold. Yet the moment he embraced Albert, the last trace of chill left him.
