Summary
Jules Millin had always considered herself fiercely independent. Her parents' chaotic, larger-than-life personalities had taught her early on to keep her expectations low when it came to other people. Relying on anyone but herself felt like a recipe for disaster. That philosophy had served her well through college, medical school, now her residency at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Which was why moving into her new apartment was supposed to be the start of a perfectly self-contained life. A fresh start. No distractions. Just her, her work, and the occasional glass of wine or beer on Fridays.
That was the order (in which she prioritised a great deal) she wanted her days to consist of. She liked uneventful mornings and quiet nights. She liked not owing her neighbours anything.
It’s not as if neighbours were bad per se… it was more Jules. Now, she didn’t count herself to be a bad neighbour, she would give a smile here and there and if she really had to, she’d engage in small talk. But they were never her ‘friends’, they were other (mostly annoying) people who lived in the same building as her. Jules expected it to be like that everywhere, she didn’t anticipate anything else and she sure as hell didn’t want it.

Summary
Mika perked up immediately, her eyes narrowing with interest. “Let alone... what?”
“Nothing,” Jules said quickly, her cheeks beginning to flush.
Mika leaned in closer, her grin downright mischievous. “You said you didn’t expect to like me, let alone... fall for me?”
