Summary

“You and I both know that if I started singing Peter Gabriel, you’d push me out the window.”
“Yeah, probably.”
A moment passes in silence. Outside, crickets begin chirping the evening song and a distant engine revs as someone pulls out of their driveway. On the far end of the trailer, Wayne putters around the kitchen, probably getting a start on dinner.
“So, you gonna let me in or what?”

Summary
“Wait,” Steve says. “This is more fun if you’re racing with someone. Rob, grab a drink.”
She mutters something that sounds a lot like do I have to, but she still grabs a can and unclips her keys from her belt loop. Steve and Robin stand side-by-side.
Steve points at Lucas. “You’re ref, okay? You decide who finishes first.”
Lucas nods. He plants his hands on his hips in an astoundingly Steve-like gesture. “You ready? Okay. Three…two…one…go.”
Lightning-fast, Steve stabs the bottom of his can, puts his mouth to it, and throws his head back. He flicks the tab of the can with a metallic crack. Beside him, Robin misses the first stab, curses, makes it on the second, and hurries to catch up. It would be a tense competition if Eddie could pay literally any attention to anything but Steve right now.
Or: A short & silly oneshot about Steve teaching the kids how to shotgun a soda and Eddie being a little too into it.

Summary
Robin approaches him slowly. She sees herself in the mirror: still dirt-smudged with bags under her eyes and dried blood obscuring her freckles. She rests her hand on Steve’s back and feels the rattle of his breath under the vest he still hasn’t taken off.
“It’s okay, Steve.”
He jerks his head up. His eyes are red-rimmed and shining. She slides her left hand all the way around his side until she’s hugging him from behind. She presses her cheek to the denim covering his back and closes her eyes.
“It’s okay, dingus. You can let it out,” she murmurs. She rubs her face against his back and slides her hand down the bare skin of his arm. “It’s just me. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.”
Or: Steve has a tell for when he’s trying not to cry and Robin seems to be the only one who notices it.

Wordlessly, Steve hands Eddie the box of detergent from his perch on the adjacent washer. He watches Eddie pour it into the hatch at the top and smiles.
“I just realized something. That’s all.”

Eddie looks up from the label of his beer, which he has been mindlessly picking at for the last fifteen minutes. "Does what bother me?"
Robin's eyes are trained in the direction of Chrissy, her blonde ponytail the only part of her visible among the cluster of people by the bar. A tall guy in a trucker hat and Levi's is leaning up against the bar beside her. On her other side, Steve is also leaning against it and making small talk with some girl with red hair and a fringed jacket.
"No," Eddie answers, and sips his beer.
Or: Robin, Eddie, and the struggles of dating pretty jocks who draw attention wherever they go.

"Let me take care of you, Ed, please. C'mon, I wanna—"
"Nope."
With sudden force, Eddie pushes on Steve's chest with both palms and sends him careening backwards. Steve lands on the bed with a bounce and an oof. Before Steve can get back up, Eddie's hands are on Steve's pants, unbuttoning and unzipping and yanking them down his thighs, and only pauses to yank his hair up into a messy ponytail which he secures with a band from around his wrist from around his wrist. (A rubber band, Steve notes; he shudders for Eddie's poor hair.)
And oh my god this is really happening.
"Eddie, you don't have to—"
"Shut up, Steve. I want to, okay? I am literally begging you to let me do this."
Or: For the first time, Steve lets himself be the one who is taken care of. It's a little overwhelming, to say the least.

Summary
From the stereo, Freddie Mercury’s voice kicks in with a familiar refrain. Steve taps along to the beat against the steering wheel. From the corner of his eye, he sees Eddie watching him.
“What?” Steve prompts. “I like this song.”
“You— what?”
“I like this song. Dude, I literally own this album. Look.”
He gestures towards the glove compartment, which Eddie pops open. Sure enough, among the cassettes crammed in with the BMW’s instruction manual and Steve’s registration info, Queen’s The Works is nestled between a copy of Born in the U.S.A. and Abbey Road.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” Eddie says, not missing a beat. A sharkish grin spreads across his face. “The King isn’t as much of a square as I assumed.”
Or: Eddie sets out to “educate” Steve on metal, only to learn that Steve knows much more than he gives him credit for. (A love letter to Steve’s many dimensions.)

“It’s not that complicated.” Chrissy checks her lips in the mirror, and, deeming it satisfactory, shuffles around to face Robin. “Liquid lipstick is better for cheer and dance and stuff because it lasts longer. And you know what else is good about liquid lipstick?”
Robin raises an eyebrow. She’ll play along.
“What’s that?”
“It dries.”
“Why is that a good thing?”
“Because,” Chrissy smiles, “that means it’s kiss-proof.”
Or: Robin watches Chrissy put on makeup before a game. It quickly devolves from there.

Summary
The sea breeze sweeps across the pier and tosses Eddie’s hair to the side. He’s wearing a white t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, exposing the green-black of his tattoos winding down his wiry arms. The pair of blue jeans he’s wearing happen to be the only pants he owns that aren’t black—not to mention his only clean pants, thanks to the lack of laundromats on their route from Indiana to California. For someone who favors dark clothes, Steve muses, the light colors suit him: the freckles on his shoulders stand out against the stark white of his t-shirt and the deep brown of his eyes looks even darker by contrast.
“You know I’ve never been to the beach?”
Steve blinks. Eddie is looking down at him.
He nods. “Yeah, you told me it.”
Eddie turns back to the ocean, where the deep blue of the water meets the cornflower color of the sky with a thin layer of fluffy clouds in between. He closes his eyes and breathes in.
“I’ve never been west of the Mississippi.”
Or: Steve and Eddie go to the beach.
