woohoo!!! the movie is so good fr 🙂↕️ so devastating and really does not pull any punches but ough such a good story 😭 i haven’t read the book but i heard it’s much more graphic eek 😵💫😵💫 so happy this was a final push for you to watch the movie though!!
‘The comparison to the satellite bringing it all back to Brian's obsession with space, aliens, extraterrestrial things. Of course he'd know when a satellite got launched and where it is headed. And of course now he's got the weight of what really happened to deal with now.’ - all the space bits were so fun to write, i used to be such a star nerd as a kid so it was a fun little excuse to put some of my favs here. it’s technically canon relevant 🙂↕️🙂↕️!!
‘No okay but the way his face changed in the film as Neil started driving them towards the house, when he stood outside of it in the blue light and just said ‘blue lights’ in the smallest voice. 💔💔💔💔’ - GENUINELYY like my frown was so deep during that whole last like ten minutes ☹️☹️☹️ beautifully done to bring it all full circle but good god 💔💔
‘IM LOSING MY MIND. The way Brian is just getting flash banged nonstop with memories now. Remembering catching himself on the corner of the house, busting his nose, Neil explaining the rules of the ‘game’. And then the moments where the UFO lights are still there like he's trying to force it back into the alien abduction narrative again. (I also suspect maybe a TV playing in the background would have also cast the same eerie blue light if a plug n play game had the A/V cable knocked/ripped out or the input shut off for some reason. Same with the way TV static would cast light over a living room also 🥲.)’ - trulyyy like once he’s faced with the whole truth, suddenly his mind can’t keep all the memories behind a wall anymore. a lot is still fuzzy, but it’s still much clearer than it was before. and ufff he falls back on the alien thing so quick because it’s what he’s believed for years 😓💔 then bam not only was he wrong but he was also screwed up 😵💫 doozy and oooh the vibe you’re describing seems so nice in an atmospheric way, very fitting for the style 🙂↕️
‘Eric and Brian's friendship was honestly very sweet in the film, and I think also good for both of them considering the way Wendy put it with Neil having a ‘bottomless blackhole instead of a heart'. Also less of a transactional nature than the way Neil conducts himself.’ - they were so awesome sauce ☹️💔💔 every eric and brian scene had me feeling like i could take a breather between scenes to be so honest. it balanced out everything else 😭

The way you've written out Brian's current present meshing with his real memories and even the past he wanted it to be with the abduction narrative is genuinely so so good.’ - i am and will always be a sucker for DealingReallyBadly stories, that unhealthy coping mechanism tag hatesss to see me coming for sures 😵💫 and ya it’s the kind of subtle things that give him brief moments of memory, that beforehand he wouldn’t have too much of, but now it doesn’t take a lot for brian to realize what exactly his brain is recalling. and yas past experiences blending with present experiences GO!!!

Head in hands. Like the mutual understanding, the mutual self harm using each other, Brian forcing himself to relive to remember to retain everything. And Neil leaving the five dollar bill in the nightstand as a callback to the five dollar game, the fact sex to him is already transactional in so many ways. that unhealthy coping mechanisms tag was not lying.’ - yuuuop 😓😓😓 the pace of the sex scene was totally inspired by the pace of the last chat they have on the couch, where every now and then brian says something in shock and neil’s like wait should i stop?? because really what is the appropriate time to stop during a convo like that 🤧 they’re just rawdogging boundaries atp 😭
