Comment on How Can You Mend A Broken Heart

  1. The characterization of both Ben and Mrs. Jones are spot on in this chapter. I’m glad that you decided to give Mrs. Jones a heart here. It’s always bothering me that so many writers blatantly described her as nothing but a mere cold hearted woman. I mean, MI6 did some real bad thing to young Alex and it’s reasonable for us to bash them for what they did. However, Mrs. Jones has children of her own, and I find that the way some writers portrayed her as a ruthless, cold, calculating, 2.0 version of Blunt is just OOC for me. It is even more OOC of her imo when she finally had the power to make the decision and still coered Alex into dangerous missions without proper aids. I do hope things will not turn to this path as the story progresses tho.

For Ben, I always feel like it is in human’s nature to care for something/someone smaller, younger, the ones that are vulnerable and more insecured towards themselves. At least I feel that way, like when I approach someone younger than me, I always perceive them as my little brothers/sisters and wish them the best. Ben may not recognize it yet, taking his rigid attitude and the way he paused when being asked why he cared into account, but his brother instinct is kicking in, very hard right now. There is not a particular reason why someone should care for somebody else, it just happens. Not to mention the fact that Alex is never a “somebody else” to Ben. Now when I look back on purpose, I realize that their relationship has been through more phases than I thought it was. The first time they met was actually on Brecon Beacons. Yet, the encounter was so brief and they rarely interacted so I can’t tell what Ben’s view of him at the time was. At least he’s not a straight out bully like that certain leader of K-unit appeared to be *cough* still can’t get over the fact that AHor mixed up Fox aka the one I love with Wolf aka the one I don’t love so much together in NSD *cough* all in all, first impression, Ben was indifferent to Alex at the time. Then, things cleared up when Ben was seconded to MI6 and though I believe he had enough clearance level to know what Alex was capable of during their Snakehead mission, I couldn’t quite explain the seemingly sudden cheerful approach when he saw Alex again like they were actually some good old, long-time-no-see friends. As much as I love Alex and Ben’s dynamic, don’t you think Ben’s attitudes didn’t quite add up on that specific part in the canon? I once wished that AHor could elaborate more on that but all hopes were perished the moment he mistook Fox for Wolf to me ugh. Ben Daniels deserves a better and more proper characterization and I’m glad that so many fanfiction writers out there picked up on the cues. Thanks to them filling in the plot holes for Ben’s character, even with little to none development at all in the canon, I can still safely conclude that Ben Daniels is the one most suitable to be both Alex’s work partner and guardian for the time being. I didn’t mean to cross out Jack here but the whole Jack coming back thing in NSD was so absurd I refused it to be canon. The Pleasures never fitted the picture imo so obviously a no for them. That leaves Ben the only one left that is still alive and is able to be by Alex’s side. So overall, I’m very looking forward to how this story will unfold. Healing process let’s gooo. Ben and Alex’s quality times let’s goooo
