Comment on Wedding Bells… No More like Hell’s Bells

  1. Where do I start with the books? I heard the first two books aren't great.

    1. I would always start with number one. They are not bad, it's just that the others get even better.

    2. Honestly, you don't need to start with the first book. I didn't. The first DF book I picked up was Death Masks (5th) mostly because it had a quote on the cover on how it was like Harry Potter for adults, which normally would have made me put it back down but when I read that the character was actually named Harry... I laughed and had to buy it. Considering the story it also explains how managed to fall head over heels in love with Marcone. Lol.

I would warn any new reader that the books can be strongly male-gaze to female characters, so how much that bothers you is dependent on you own limits (its not like fanfic!). I have a very high tolerance and the only time I had a 'yuck' reaction was with Molly, but I never stopped reading, although there's a reason that I often skip the 8th book, Proven Guilty, when I do rereads of the series.

If you're trying to figure out if you'll like it I'd tell you to pick any 3 books prior to Changes (12th) to give you an idea if you'll like the entire series. Especially since you've spoiled yourself on quite a lot of the series then you'll know a lot of the details of the series of the in between books.

My 3 recommendations would be: Grave Peril, Dead Beat, and Small Favor. Although, I do have to warn you that I consider Dead Beat to the BEST of the entire series, so don't be too disappointed if other stories aren't quite as awesome. =D

      .

Then after you read them, you can decide if its worth to invest the time in the series.

Or even if you wanted to read from closer the the beginning I'd rec reading: Grave Peril (3rd), Summer Knight (4th) and Death Masks (5th).
