I was being good and waiting until I'd finished Overture to read this and I have and now I'm reading it and what a treat!! Your writing is absolutely wonderful. I love the understated way you mention certain details, such as P's clothes feeling stuffy at the sight of well-dressed Romeo.
And seeing P just get to have a Nice Day without any Horrors... Poor boy deserves it, even if that Nice Day comes with an edge of Loneliness. He should get to pet a horse! He should get to dance with someone!!
