In a strange twist of events, it would seem his prayers for a second chance were finally answered but in the worst possible fashion he could think of. Taken into Templar custody, he's fearful of what his fate will hold under the watchful eyes of one Robert de Sablé.
He could only hope their hospitality practices were better than Abstergo's.

Stricken with illness from the sweltering Jerusalem heat, Robert takes the injured and ill man back to their base to recover. As details about their newest charge unfold, speculation about his origins circles the ranks.However, one thing is for certain. Robert isn't going to let another life slip through his fingers if he can help it.

Summary
Abstergo had been running two hours behind that day, December 21st, 2012, and that has made all the difference. Desmond Miles unexpectedly returns to the land of the living an hour after his death and is suddenly faced with the realization that he will have to deal with Juno after all. Having decided while trapped within the Animus to dedicate himself to the Brotherhood and its creed truly, Desmond concludes that things will need to change if they are to have a chance against the crazed Isu, so he sets out to rebuild.
Or: The one where an Apple fuses with Desmond's arm in the chaos of the escape from the temple and brings him back to life, the lines between time have blurred, and Ezio Auditore keeps popping up to give him pep-talks.
