Summary
Max steps back into the elevator. He takes a closer look at the Brit.
It almost looks as if…
He is shaking.
George is shaking.
An uncomfortable feeling fills Max’ chest. Something is wrong.
“What are you doing, mate?” he asks the Brit. “I’m not sure what’s happening, but you should at least get out of the elevator.”
That gets him a reply. A quiet one. “Leave me alone…” There’s a tremble in his voice.
Max punches the ‘open’ button once more for good measure and then grabs Russell’s wrist. The Brit flinches and looks up.
And that’s when Max sees that his eyes are wet.
“You’re crying.” The words fall out of Max’ mouth before he can remember that his words might sound rude.

George finally breaks after this DNF in Spa. Max finds a very fragile Mercedes driver in the hotel elevator. He isn’t good with emotions, but he knows that George needs a quiet place to sit and maybe some water.
Apparently a hug too.

George was born with something rotten inside of him.
He tries to hide it behind carefully curated words and smiles that never reach his eyes. Max is the only one that sees through him.“Does it turn you on?” The Dutchman asks out of the blue, catching George off guard.
“What?”
“When you’re insulting me. Does that turn you on?”
The Brit inhales sharply through his nose, his eyes flicking to the wall for a moment before he remembers they were playing a game of who looks away first, and he just lost.
