The king was so anxious that he could not sleep. In the middle of the night he looked out of the window and saw the silvery moon riding high in the sky and, there and then, he wanted to reach out and touch her. The moon was beautiful, and she did not have to do what the emperor wanted.
But even a king couldn’t reach the moon. So he thought about it, and he thought about it. Night and day he thought about it. And at last he worked out a way of touching the moon. He would have a tall, tall tower built that reached to the sky, and then, when he had climbed to the top, he would be able to touch the moon.
