The royal family of Antarctic empire isn’t exactly close.
Emperor Philza is always occupied; Tommy hasn’t seen Techno in months, and even if Wilbur is here, their relationship can be described to be strained at best.
The royal family doesn’t need to be close, however, it only needs to be balanced, like the pillars holding the country above their heads – as long as they are strong and steady, the Empire will be too. It’s the principle that held Tommy’s back straight and his shoulders broad through the years of hardships and trials of errors; through yet another formal meeting where his father’s gaze would look past him and where his brother’s words would be filled with poison that makes the deepest parts of his soul ache.
At that time, Tommy couldn't know that his family would find a replacement for him in the face of a commoner boy named Ranboo.

“You asked for me,” Tommy pants, trying not to show pain but knows he’s not succeeding as he heaves air like a man starved. “You asked the heroes to hand me over in exchange for the hostages. You’ve seen me fight. Zyghost knows too.”
He knows that Tommy can’t jump anymore, but that’s all of it. Maybe they’re thinking his electricity and power shocks is something tied to his teleportation, but they can’t know the true extent of Tommy’s “power” and he’s pretty sure that that is what’s keeping him alive.“You want to poke me,” he hisses, although it doesn’t sound nearly as threatening as he wants, when he’s so goddamned tired and hurt and fucking aching.
“You want to prod me. You want to figure out my powers. Either you think I’m your new bargaining chip or your new protégé you want to torture into submission,” he spits, hitting the nail on its fucking head when Sentinel freezes in his sights. “Well I’m fucking neither. I’m Theseus, illegal fucking vigilante and two of your hostages happened to be my family.“And this is personal, bitch.”
Or: Being a vigilante isn’t simple—or legal—but Tommy refuses to sit on the sidelines.

He was the snarky hero that went from sitting in the medbays of the underground hero complex of Pogtopia, healing every hero that came in injured to fighting with the best heroes L’manberg had ever seen. He was a legend, an influence, and he always worked for the greater good!
Tommy wished that was how he saw himself too. Ice cold water dripped around him, his body screaming from the pain of the fall, though his power worked to fix him.
He couldn’t think of himself as the hero. Not as his hands stitched together the bruised and cut body of the one and only villain Siren. With both their breathing was shallow, near close to death, Tommy would be damned if he didn’t think the other was questioning why he was doing this. Even Tommy didn’t know.
Tommy was no hero, not after he had saved the life of Siren.
Or: Healer hero Tommy saves villain Wilbur and neither of them know how to handle that.

Tommy could heal Phil, that was no issue. The issue lay in Tommy surviving. He still felt weak from healing Techno’s stab wound from the day before, and even weaker from Wilbur’s gunshot wound the day before that. Realistically, Tommy couldn’t heal Phil in a way that would save him, not without Tommy dying.
Techno started yelling.
“Fix him, Theseus! He’s dying. Do what you’re good at! This is the only thing you’re good for!”
OR
TommyInnit is a healer. Phil is gravely injured. Angst ensues!

“Oh! And there is a special art exhibit that’ll be happening in a few months!” the vice President of the art club announced. This time, Tommy finally looked up to listen. “The concept of our next exhibit is about ‘Soulmates.’ We have further instructions listed in our newsletter, which you can get in your school email. Please submit any artwork to us by the end of March. We’ll be showing the exhibit in April, before final exams.”
Tommy rolled his eyes. Of course, because the world constantly fantasizes about soulmates, this stupid art club was going to display cute art work as a way to pander for an audience.
Don’t get him wrong, he likes his soulmates. Yet, the idea of painting or drawing about them seemed…superficial to him. Maybe it was his current self-crisis plaguing his thoughts. After all, didn’t studies say that around 60 percent of freshmen in college drop out of their first major?
Shit. Fuck.

Again, Tommy knew he shouldn’t care. But he knew he’d never be able to live with himself if he did what Wilbur asked. This guy deserved a chance to live, even if he was undead. His chance at a normal human life had been stolen, and while Tommy couldn’t explain why, he felt like he had to make that up to him.
“Just… let me try to find you a blood source that doesn’t involve hurting people,” Tommy said, squeezing his shoulders. “Once we get that worked out, and you don’t have to worry about feeding, we can figure out where to go from there.”
The frustration slowly leaked out of Wilbur’s face, until the only thing left in the lines of his forehead was exhaustion. Not physical exhaustion, but something more. Something deeper.
“You’re the worst fucking vampire hunter I’ve ever met.”
aka the fic where Tommy's google search history is probably 'what do I do when the vampire I'm trying to kill is depressed as hell and I feel too bad to actually kill him?'
