Summary
Jason was shivering.
Tim kept glancing over at him, muttering more spells under his breath as he spun his hands over the small cauldron. Jason had been in and out for a while, the magically induced fever the sorcerer had put him under doing strange things to his body. Tim had never seen anything like it before, and it was making him nervous.
Jason’s back arched as he groaned in pain. Tim stopped his magic quickly, leaning over to hold him down. Jason whimpered, and Tim grimaced in sympathy. He reached over to the small dish of ice water on the bedside table, imbuing some more of his healing magic into the water as he twirled the cloth around the bowl before lifting it and squeezing some of the water out. He gently dabbed away the sweat beading at Jason’s temples, making soft noises he hoped were soothing, before letting the cloth rest on his forehead.Written For JayTim Week 2026, Day 3: Magic, Bed Sharing

“I should probably have something,” Jason mused.
“Well, why’d Gilbert become an adventurer in the first place?” Tim asked. They could see Jason’s hesitation, clearly not sure where he should start with backstory.
“To help people,” Jason said automatically.
“Okay, why?” Tim prompted.
Jason sighed, taking his hand out of his hair before running it through again, the heel of his palm pressed against his temple. Tim didn’t know why they were watching that so intently. “Probably because he didn’t have someone like that when he was younger. Wants to be that for someone else,” he looked up at Tim, pain briefly flickering in his eyes.
“You don’t have to draw from your own experiences if you don’t want to,” Tim said softly, surprising themself a little with how gentle it sounded. “It can be whatever you want.”
“I do want it,” Jason said slowly. “I think…I don’t know if I wanted him to have died, but…” he leaned closer, and Tim felt themself leaning closer too. “Maybe he gets to be happier than me.”Written For JayTim Week 2026, Day 2: Enchanted Item

Not everyone undergoes the ritual.
In fact, most of the population doesn't. Roughly only ten percent of the Empire of Gotham will step into that magic circle to be changed irrevocably.
To be altered, losing your body as you know it, changing the senses, it's more than many would subject themselves to. And what's more the Institution of Magic doesn't allow just anyone to gain that privilege.
Without a sponsor, or supplying a hefty amount of gold yourself, no one from the slums Jason grew up in could possibly gain entry through the Tower's ivory entrance, let alone into the Hall of Rites.
For the elite, the nobility, it's as common as a coming-of-age ceremony. -

Tim’s hand grips tighter on the coffee, more determined to keep his hold on that than his phone or keys, and thank god, he doesn’t drop the drink. But the rest of it slips through his fingers, and the guy he just slammed into has some seriously great reflexes, because he manages to snatch them both out of the air before they can hit the ground.
“Oh, god, sorry—” Tim starts to say as the guy straightens up, and then he stops. A set of amused green eyes look down at him over a wide grin.
You’ve got to be kidding, Tim thinks.
“Got somewhere to be, sweetheart? Oh, now that’s a pretty shade of red you’re turning—”
“I’m late,” Tim snaps, snatching his keys and phone out of Jason’s hand. “I got lost four fucking times on my way here. If this city was a person, I would throttle it.”

Summary
As Bryce Wayne's daughter, in name and heart if not in blood, Jaybyrd Wayne knew she had obligations that came as part and parcel of the title. She had to turn up at fetes and smile through clenched teeth and try not to start any fights, no matter how badly she wants to. The Gotham Carrantages - the mountainous lands where they called home - had been warring and pillaging for centuries and they were only just now starting to learn better ways. Bryce was finally starting to make them understand that their magical Gifts, once used only for war, could be turned to better things and far be it for Jaybyrd to disrupt the process.
It would be nice if everyone wasn't so obsessed with getting her to marry, or so annoyingly horrified at her thoroughly modern education. Jaybyrd was never very good at playing stupid. She was never very good at being anything other than herself, liked or not. Mostly not.
Then she meets a girl she'd never seen before. One she unexpectedly finds she can be herself around. Another girl who wants to reach out and embrace a new, modern world; if only Jaybyrd can convince her to run from everything she's ever known.

He’d seen Stephanie earlier that day, and he’d heard her whisper to Dick that he was unhinged. It is a fairly accurate description, really. Then again, Stephanie doesn’t know what it’s like when your only tether to the living world has been brutally cut and sent to the beyond. He doubts she’ll ever talk to him again. Not after she realizes how he used her to make tonight possible.
It’s okay, after tonight, everything will be okay.
