Bangkok has its own mysteries, though most of them are too small, too ugly, or too inconvenient to be written about in the papers with any honesty. Fortunately, Freen Sarocha has never cared for what the papers call appropriate. She is brilliant, impossible, cold when she wishes to be, and so sharply observant that people often mistake her accuracy for cruelty. I ought to know. Within minutes of meeting me, she had dismantled half my life with nothing but a glance and an infuriatingly calm tone.
I told myself, at the beginning, that I remained at Sukhumvit House because the rent was reasonable, because I needed purpose, because following a consulting detective through Bangkok was more interesting than returning to an ordinary life that no longer fit me. It had nothing at all to do with the way Freen stood at the window with a violin tucked beneath her chin, or the way she pretended not to care whether I had eaten, or the way her silence always seemed to change when I entered a room.
That is the official account, at any rate.
The truth, as anyone with eyes could have told us, is that some mysteries are not meant to be solved quickly. Some are meant to haunt you first.

That's what Becky dealt with... catching vampires that killed innocent civilians.
But what will happen when the group's supervisor informs Detective Armstrong that she'll be assigned a partner from the Transit who is exactly what Becky hunts?
