Almost unconsciously, Tim pressed a hand against the smile-scars carved into his face. He pushed his breakfast away from him, milk sloshing out of the bowl and onto the hardwood table. “I don’t know what you mean.” He forced his hands against his side, fist clenched and heart racing. He hadn’t realised the sun-tan – because he’d been dragged on holiday by Connor, spending a week on the beach with the rest of his team – had brought out the scars that much.
