Chapter Text
"WHAT IN THE ACTUAL, GODDAMN FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!" Mondo raged, veins popping all over his forehead and fists. "THAT GODDAMN BEAR SHOULDN'T STILL BE MOVING! WASN'T ENOSHIMA THE ONE CONTROLLING THE DAMN THING?!"
"I thought this shit-show was over! That we didn't have to hear that shitty voice EVER again!" Leon ranted alongside the biker, pacing around in aggravation. "We saw the bitch die! We saw her get smashed into mush! There's no goddamn way that's controlling the thing! THERE'S NO FUCKING WAY!"
"There had to be someone else controlling the damn bear! SOMEONE that we did not see!" Taeko rationalized desperately, unable to sit still either. "But how?! And for how long?! And why the fuck are they making a move now? WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?!"
"GHOST! Junko's ghost took control of Monokuma!" Hiro screamed fearfully, gripping parts of his dreadlocks. "She came back to haunt and torment the rest of the survivors! This is the end of the world, man! THE WORLD!"
Chaos filled the room as students either raged, panicked, screamed, or just remained in stunned silence. No one had the capacity to remain calm, or even calm everyone else. All their minds were on the sudden revival of Monokuma.
One of the silent students was Makoto, who stared vacantly at the TV; almost as though he was waiting for the next scene to play. However, nothing else played for them. All that's left was a vacant screen.
Why? Why did that happen? What had exactly happened? It was just one scene, one simple little scene… but yet it was able to leave so many questions. Too many questions.
Junko was dead. The future Junko was dead. They saw her die in her own executions, get smashed in the same execution she had attempted on him. So…?
"HOW?!" Sayaka shrieked, unknowingly finishing the question in the luckster's mind. "How is Monokuma active?! That horrible little machine should be as dead as its master! So why is it moving?! WHY?!"
Suddenly, a laugh broke out amidst the chaos. And that mad, gleeful laughter was enough to silence all the panic; with eyes slowly turning towards the source.
And to no one's surprise… "Oh, this has definitely gotten quite interesting…!" Junko said cheerfully through her laughter. "Puhuhu, I thought for sure this ending would just remain boring the entire time! But no! A new curveball got thrown at the very last minute! Oh, how exciting to think about!"
For a moment, no one spoke; and merely stared at the giggling maniac that was Junko Enoshima. However, students quickly had enough of her raving, with Byakuya being the first to speak.
"You! Explain yourself this instant!" He demanded, erraticism mixed with his anger. "What is the meaning of this?! What did your future self do?!"
In response, Junko merely tilted her head, feigning confusion. "Huh? You think I actually know what's going on?" She asked rhetorically. "Trust me, Byakuya, I'm caught off guard as much as everyone else here."
"LIKE HELL YOU ARE!"
Almost instantly, Taeko grabbed Junko by the collar, pulling her out of her seat; glaring at the fashionista with an intensity that would frighten most others. "There's no way you don't know a damn thing about this!" She growled, her form practically shaking. "You planned this whole apocalypse at the start! You set up this fucking killing game! You think we would buy this bull about you not knowing a thing about this?!"
Far from intimated, Junko smiled mockingly at the gambler. "My, oh my, this is probably the most emotional I've seen you, Taeko. You should let out this side of you more. It brings out the normal girl inside you the best."
The gambler looked ready to tear out the fashionista's throat with her bare teeth. "BITCH, I WILL-"
"As Celeste has stated, you had planned all this from the very beginning. Before even stepping into Hope's Peak." Sakura interjected. However, despite her leveled tone, it was clear to anyone that the martial artist was barely holding back her own frenzied emotions. "Why should we believe your claim that you know nothing?"
A sigh left Junko's lips. "You heard Muku, didn't you? Right before this mostly boring epilogue started?" She reminded them. "I don't plan these things out. I don't have a full detailed strategy lying around in my room. If I planned out the Tragedy, it would've made it soooo boring. Bringing out despair on the fly provides much more excitement."
"It's why I've enjoyed our little killing game so much. I don't know what to expect at the start, what kind of despair I'll see from you all. All I knew was that much of it was gonna be exciting!" A wide, malice-filled grin then formed. "And Monokuma rising up like the living dead? A nice, sweet, cherry on top that came completely out of left field!"
Her words, her smile, not only left several of them shocked; but also brought about the chills that the students couldn't fight off so easily. Taeko, especially, felt close to shaking; almost desiring to run away from the mad smile aimed straight at her.
However, she was unwilling to let this go. And judging from the looks from those such as Leon, Mondo, and Sayaka, she was not alone in this.
"That's such bull-!"
"As if we're gonna believe that so-!"
"Give us a better explanation than that, Enosh-!"
A clap echoed in the room. That clap emitted a boom that was not only heard, but felt; hitting and silencing everyone in the room. The source of that boom was none other than Spirit, who stood straight in front of the TV.
"Are you all done?" He asked rhetorically, his hands still raised for another clap. When no noise was made, and all eyes turned on him, he lowered his hand. "Alright then. Celeste, I recommend letting go of Junko, before she decides to toy with you out of boredom."
The gambler wanted to scoff at that. But knowledge came back to her as to who she was man-handling at that moment; and with the addition of the malice-filled smile still aimed at her, she took to discretion over valor and slowly let go of the Ultimate Despair. Taking several steps away as well for good measure.
"Now, I suspect all of you have quite a few questions over the end you just watched." The snorts and scoffs let out across the room made it clear that was an understatement. "Well, let me start by assuring you that the Junko on screen is assuredly dead. This is not her controlling Monokuma."
What should've been a reassuring statement did not leave the class relaxed. Cause the question remained, if not her, then…?
"As for who it is?" Their host hummed, as if thinking for a good answer. "That answer lies… let's call it, the sequel of this viewing."
For a moment, it was deathly quiet, as everyone took those last four words. Several long seconds of Hope's Peak 78th Class processing the outright implication made.
Then…
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, SEQUEL?!"
The screams of sixteen Ultimate students impacted the host of the viewing like wind, his tie even blowing back from the strength. Calmly readjusting his tie, Spirit continued. "You heard me correctly. The story of Danganronpa, the battle between hope and despair, is not quite done yet. What you'd watch? It's merely the story of your class, the 78 class of Hope's Peak."
"More happens after the six survivors of your class enter the outside world. There's more to the Tragedy that has not yet been unveiled, more mysteries that are waiting to be solved." His gaze washed over each and every student, expressing his seriousness through his eyes. "However, it won't be the six survivors that would be the main focus. Instead… the next killing game will involve another class of Hope's Peak."
Yet again, the class took the time to process what was said, though this time not as stunned. There was trepidation, disbelief, and even some frustration over the fact that this was not over. That there was more about this future that they likely need to watch in order to ensure this future never happens.
However… there were hints of relief, relief that no one dared to voice, that it won't be them that'll be involved in this "sequel". That none of the six survivors will be forced into another killing game. Byakuya, Toko, Hina, Hiro, and even Makoto and Kyoko ESPECIALLY felt that relief wash over them; a relief that at least half of them are trying not to think about.
Then a few minds fully processed the last sentence said by their host. And remembering Junko's claim before, confusion filled those minds.
"But, wait - didn't Junko say that everyone in Hope's Peak died? Everyone but us?" Makoto questioned, his confusion clear across his face. "So, how-?"
"That is part of the mystery of the next viewing." Spirit answered, cutting him off. "But I'll say this. There's some from Hope's Peak, a full class at the very least, that was able to fake their deaths. So the world was unaware that they were alive, for a time."
For a moment, Makoto felt relief. Survivors! There were other students from Hope's Peak that would've survived in this future!
But that relief turned to ash once he realized that those same survivors were going to live the nightmare their class did. They're going to have to see their future selves kill each other. Have to see the worst side of themselves. And his heart could only feel nothing but empathy for that class.
"Soo… what does that have to do with us?" Hiro asked uncertainly. "I mean, we solved the mystery already, right? The world got destroyed, Hope's Peak was turned to a shelter, and we got our memories wiped, right before we were forced to kill each other. All by that wacko, Junko. So we got what we needed, right?"
"I must concur." Taka voiced his agreement with the fortune teller. "In fact, by dealing with Junko now, it ensures that our fellow Ultimates do not go through that nightmare, alongside us. There's no need to witness more potential death, is there?"
The answer came, not from Spirit, but from Byakuya. "Fools." He started out flatly. "Did you not hear what our host said? There's more to this Tragedy that has not yet been revealed. More mysteries around it. We may not be directly involved anymore, but that doesn't erase the importance of those mysteries."
"Important how, Togami?" Mondo asked with bits of irritation.
Makoto was one of the first to get what was being said. "So we can make sure Junko doesn't get her hands on the things that caused the Tragedy…" He said grimly, looking around at his classmates. "She may have created this future on a whim… but it probably doesn't change that she had certain tools to be able to create such world-wide chaos."
"Indeed…" Kyoko nodded in agreement, narrowing her eyes in thought. "And it would be difficult to keep a lid on her if we don't know the tools that she used to create the Tragedy. We need all the information we can get in order to make this future a mere nightmare that will fade in time."
Several of the students sent looks towards one another, conflicting expressions across their faces. On one hand, Kyoko, Byakuya, and Makoto got a point. If they don't want to live out the nightmare they witnessed, it's probably best to watch this "sequel" to the future. While they got a good chance, a very good chance, with Junko in their sights, every info they can get would make it more certain that the Tragedy never happens.
On the other hand… very few of them felt keen on continuing this nightmare. While it was another class that would have to experience it, sure, it doesn't change that they would have to watch more murders. More killings. Likely more bizarre executions, if this new "mastermind" doesn't plan on straying from what Junko did.
They would have to continue looking at the monochrome machine that would likely plague their sleep…
"We won't start it now. You'll be sent back to Hope's Peak today, whenever you're ready to go." Spirit assured the group, giving them some relief. "And you'll have plenty of time to recover from everything you've witnessed. You can also choose not to watch this, the same choice I gave you when we started this. This sequel will mainly be for the next class I bring in."
That put plenty of the students at ease. However, some still couldn't help but feel conflicted. Should they stay, see this through even further to the end? Or should THIS be their end?
"Look at you, debating whether or not you should know what tools I would get to build my instrument of despair…" Junko cooed mockingly, directing attention on her once more. "Well, I don't care either way what you guys do. While I won't say no to another course of despair… it won't be as exciting as it was watching you guys fall. It'll just be a rando class that we would watch. Faaaaar less interesting."
And like with all the other times she has spoken up since her unmasking, she was met with rage-filled glares by her classmates. Looks that she can't get enough of. To see her classmates, her friends, look at her with so much disdain? So much rage? Fear hidden beneath the hate? It sends such pleasant jolts through her body.
"Do you not realize that watching would result in taking away those very tools before you can use them…?" Sakura inquired skeptically, keeping her wary gaze aimed at the fashionista. "That this would restrict you even further?"
At that, Junko giggled in amusement. "Oh, heck no! Why would I worry about things I only have inklings on, at most?" She retorted. "Besides, if we do watch it, why bother trying to use those tools for my plan? That would boooring. If anything, that gives me the incentive to change things up."
"This chick is way too sick in the head…" Leon grumbled to himself; with those who heard him agreeing, silently or otherwise.
Junko paid no mind to the grumbling. "And besides, either way, it doesn't change the new goal I made right now."
"...N-New goal?" Toko questioned nervously and warily.
Slowly, the fashionista's eyes flickered towards Makoto; the lucky student feeling a chill went through him over the predatory look aimed at him. "My plans for despair can wait. My global world chaos can be put on hold. The world can continue its peaceful life for just a little longer…"
Her smile turned predatory, seductive, and malicious all at the same time. "Just until I claim Makoto all for myself. Have him feel the same despair that he gave me…"
Immediately, the class hovered around him; ready to step in front of Junko if she made any wrong move. But the Ultimate Despair made no such move. Merely leaned forward in her seat, with a gaze full of both hatred and affection in equal measure, aimed straight at the luckster.
It was a gaze that made Makoto shudder. That almost left him shaking, feeling like a small rabbit in front of a hungry hawk. However, he didn't let himself stay intimidated. He couldn't. Not when he planned to keep this girl from ever enacting her world-scale calamity. He needs to face her head on, and meet her gaze with his own glare.
Especially since… he planned on showing her a hope that even she can't deny.
'Try to break me all you want, Enoshima.' Makoto thought to himself, giving an intense glare back. 'You can try to fall into despair. But while you're doing… I'll show you hope. And have you reject your own despair.'
A silent challenge was made between the self-proclaimed Ultimate Despair and would-be Ultimate Hope. A challenge reflected within their eyes.
One will stop at nothing to seduce and break her enemy till he's molded into her image…
…while the other will do everything in his power to find her something in this world worth living for.
Suddenly, the stare-down ended. Not by either of them, however; but by Sayaka, who suddenly pulled Makoto to the middle of the room. The luckster could only let out a startled yelp, not at all expecting this.
"S-Sayaka…?" Makoto stuttered. "What's wrong? Why are you-?"
The idol placed a finger on his lips, silencing him for a moment. After a moment, she placed both hands on his shoulder, before looking around at her classmates. Specifically four other girls who share the same feelings for their lucky student.
"Hina, Celeste, Kyoko, Mukuro, if you want to do this right after, you can. I even encourage it. This'll help him forget that kiss."
That earned a look of confusion and alarm from Makoto. "Huh? Sayaka, what do you-?" He was silenced once again, this time by Sayaka grabbing him by both cheeks… and pulling him into a kiss.
"EEEEEEEEEHHHHH?!" Eyes practically popped open, with jaws dropping and letting out shocked noises, as the Ultimate Pop Sensation locked lips with the Ultimate Lucky Student. No one was more surprised than Makoto himself, whose eyes popped open and whose face was rapidly turning red.
"What the hell?!" Both Leon and Mondo shouted together.
"Sayaka…?!" Chihiro could only look at the idol in surprise.
"Is this some sort of kiss Makoto day?!" Hiro exclaimed bafflingly.
"Whaaaaaaaaaa…?!" Was all that left Hifumi's lips.
Sayaka ignored the reactions of her classmates, and focused on her kiss with her crush; almost savoring the sensation. After a moment, she slowly pulled back; giving Makoto the most affectionate look she could before stepping back.
"Wha-? Huh-? Uh-?" Unintelligible noises left the luckster's lips, as he stood there, his mind absolutely haywired. His face was as red as a sheet, with a warmness enveloping his body. A far contrast to how he reacted to Junko's kiss.
"I wanted to wait until there was a better time, a better mood, but…" Sayaka admitted; looking down down slightly as her own cheeks turned red. She then mustered back up a bit of her courage to face the luckster. "This felt like the best way to forget that… *other* kiss."
"Uh- I, uh, I-" Makoto was still unable to come up with a proper response. If someone told him a week ago that would get a kiss from Sayaka, Ultimate Pop Sensation, in order for him to forget the Ultimate Fashionista's kiss, he would bring that guy to Mikan for a check-up. If someone told him all that this morning, he still would've been very skeptical.
Yet here he was. His mind tattered over that simple kiss.
"Damn, Sayaka…" Leon muttered to himself. He knew that the idol was fairly bold when it came to showing affection to Makoto; but never was she this bold.
Sayaka then turned towards her four rivals; all of whom had their shocked looks shift into much more angry and jealous ones. A heavy pout and scowl was across Hina's face, the girl glaring daggers at the idol. Kyoko and Celeste also had their eyes narrowed at her, their gaze ice-cold. And Mukuro? She looked to be debating whether to pull out her knife or not.
Sayaka held no fear at the jealous and hostile looks. However, she did not turn smug at making the first move either. Instead, she said this. "I meant what I said before. If you want to kiss him too, you can. To give him a much better memory."
The reiterated offer immediately wiped the jealous looks; and replaced them with more taken aback and flustered ones.
"Wh-Wha-? What are you-? Huh?!" Hina spluttered, quickly turning red. "You're saying we… for all of us to kiss him?!"
"Where did this absurd idea come from?" Celeste spoke in disbelief, eyes wide as a saucer and accent wavering.
In response, Sayaka shrugged. "It's not such a bad idea, is it? There's no way we'll be able to take back that… first kiss…" She said, the last part being muttered darkly; before flashing a smile at the four girls. "So why not smother the memory with five different kisses from us?"
"The hell kind of rom-com are we watching here…?" Mondo remarked dumbly. Absmentedly, the biker held back his moral compass bro with one hand, covering his mouth in the process. Said moral compass was letting out indignant muffled sounds, outraged by the suggestion of such heavy PDA/polygamy.
Mukuro remained completely silent; merely looked at the Ultimate Pop Sensation with wide eyes and a heavy blush. Makoto, meanwhile, finally registered the proposal Sayaka made to the other girls; and reacted appropriately.
"H-Huh? Wha?! Hold a minute, Sayaka!" Makoto stammered out, looking at the idol incredulously. So focused on her that he didn't notice one of the girls walking up to him. "What makes you think-?! Why would you-?!"
"Very well." Suddenly, the luckster found himself turned around; to be met with a slightly blushing Kyoko, holding by the shoulders. "I guess we could say that this would help make up for our counterparts' actions…"
Makoto's eyes widened even further. But before he could make any noise of protest or disbelief, the lavender-haired detective pulled him into her own kiss.
"...Today is full of all kinds of shocks." Was all Hiro could think to say, a stupified look on him.
"Mr. Naegi is achieving the harem route right before our eyes…" Hifumi muttered in awe. This was looking to be greater than any magical girl harem the lucky student could've netted!
"K-KYOKO!" Hina cried out in bewilderment, waving her arms around rapidly. "Are you seriously going through with this?!"
"I did not think you would be one to go through with such bizarre plans…" Celeste added, looking just as bewildered.
Ending her kiss with Makoto, the detective looked back at Hina and Celeste, while the luckster took a few dizzy steps back. "This hasn't been a typical week." Kyoko responded back simply, trying to contain her embarrassment. "And as Sayaka stated, it's not such a bad idea, is it? Would rather do this… than just simply leave him with only that kiss from Junko…"
"K-Kyoko…" Makoto felt a high combination of warmth, heavy embarrassment, and high bewilderment; his mind still trying to catch up with what's going on right now.
For a moment, Celeste continued staring; with a heavy debate happening within her, between her Ludenberg side and her Yasuhiro side. Until finally, she let out a frustrated and embarrassed breath. "You know what? What the hell do I have to lose…?"
Marching up to Makoto's side as fast as possible, the gambler grabbed him by the arm and tugged to get him facing her. At this point, he didn't even have time to react before Taeko leaned over and pressed her lips on his.
Through it all, Chihiro couldn't help but look at the entire scene with a covered mouth and a heavy blush. Byakuya merely looked entirely unamused, whereas Toko looked wary; taking a couple steps back from the girls gathering around the luckster. They better not think of dragging her into this! Her lips are for Master only!
Hina looked on with a red face, and an indecisive heart. Is this… really ok? On one hand, Sayaka, Kyoko, and Celeste have already initiated kisses… but this feels too sudden! Her heart was not ready for this!
But then suddenly, she felt a push behind her. Turning back, she was met with a soft and encouraging smile from Sakura. A smile that said, "go for it. Be brave". Feeling that encouragement from her friend, Hina faced forward with a more determined expression, pumping herself up the best she could.
As Taeko finished up her kiss, with an unusually bashful look across her face, Hina stepped up in front of Makoto. She was met with a dizzy, red-faced look; the boy's mind completely fried at this point.
"Are you… okay, Makoto?" The swimmer asked with a hint of worry.
That question managed to jolt Makoto somewhat. "Yeah… Yeah, I'm alright…" He assured her, still looking a tad dazed. "Just… need to get my bearings for a moment…"
"Oh, okay… yeah, okay…" For a moment, Hina looked down, almost ready to chicken out. But with her own shake of her head, she decided to quickly go for it. "Sorry, but I'm just gonna go for it!"
"Huh? Wai-!" Makoto's head shot up in shock; just in time to be met with a kiss from Hina, her arms wrapped around his neck. The impact from the kiss left both of them tumbling onto the ground; resulting in the swimmer making out with him on the floor.
"Somehow, I'm not surprised by this…" Celeste spoke flatly; with Kyoko sharing an equally deadpan stare. Sayaka, however, was just stifling her laughter from Hina's overeagerness.
That only left Mukuro, who looked the most conflicted of the five. It was less about sharing a kiss with four other girls with the same guy; in her eyes, her light deserves that and much more. It was more so her wondering… if she was worthy of giving her first kiss to him. And would want one from her, when already got several kisses from girls prettier than her?
Seeing Mukuro standing idle with a conflicted look, remaining the last girl crushing on Makoto having yet to kiss him, Sayaka spoke up softly. "I won't pressure you to come up and do it if you don't want to, Mukuro." She said, smiling at the soldier. "But if you're worried about whether he would accept one from you, don't be. He won't even consider the idea of rejecting you."
"I'm not sure if our little class representative is in a state of mind to do so regardless…" Byakuya remarked dryly from the side-lines.
And indeed, the luckster looked completely out of it, staring at the wall with a stupified face. On the opposite end, Hina was curled up in an embarrassed ball, her hands covering her steaming face; Sakura comforting her friend with pats on the shoulder.
Mukuro stared at the dazed Makoto for a moment longer, before gathering her courage and walking up to him. Kneeling down, the soldier waited patiently for the lucky student to notice her.
"Mu… Mukuro…?" Slowly, the luckster faced the Ultimate Soldier, all the blood still across his face. "...Are you going to kiss me too?"
After four different kisses, back to back, there was no way he couldn't form that conclusion…
"I-If you'd like…" Mukuro stuttered, looking down with her own cheeks red. "I understand if you wouldn't want one from me, after getting several from much prettier girls…"
That last statement got Makoto to focus up; with the luckster quickly taking a hold of Mukuro's cheek to get her to look at him. "Hey, I told you before, didn't I? You have a distinct beauty. Something that makes you cuter than most girls." He reassured her. "You're just as pretty as all the other girls here, who… kissed me. Don't think you're not. So…"
His momentary confidence collapsed, his embarrassment creeping back up as he looked away slightly. "If you want to… I mean, you don't have to force yourself, if-..."
Slowly, she took in his comforting and honest words. The reminder of what he told her days before, when they first started. Using those words as courage, she lifted up his face and gave him the sixth kiss for the day. Makoto did his best to remain conscious, though he could tell that he was very close to fainting at this point.
All the while, Junko looked on with clear amusement. At first, she was surprised by the bold move made by Sayaka, followed by Kyoko. But that surprise eventually fell into mirth. How cute…! Seeing all those chicks in heat, trying to stake their claims! Sharing kisses with the boy they're all crushing on, just to smother the memory of their passionate, despairful first!
Suffice to say, she was unbothered by the smothering of affection given to the luckster. He could play around with these girls all he wants… after all, it would make all the more tragic once she takes him away from them…
Eventually, the sixth kiss for the day ended; the Ultimate Soldier and Ultimate Lucky Student looking away from each other with burning and steaming faces. From behind, Leon walked over behind the luckster before patting his friend on the shoulder.
"...Lucky son of a bitch." Was all the baseball star said to him. He felt both very proud and insanely jealous of his best friend right now. Maybe a little bit of pity, cause God knows this viewing showed that these chicks aren't completely stable…
Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Kyoko faced her classmates, her ironclad mask back in full. "So then… are we all ready to deport?"
"...Maybe give the little dude a bit to get his brain working again." Mondo dryly responded to the detective. They should also let Mukuro and Hina have time to calm down, and cool their faces…
"MMPHMMPHMMPHMMMMMMPH!"
…As well as find a way to calm down Taka.
Eventually, the class as a whole were able to regain their composure from the sudden make-out sessions that happened; and now they were all ready to leave this mysterious room, and head back to Hope's Peak. On the side, Mukuro was holding Junko by the wrists, by the request (*Cough*Demand*Cough) of Byakuya.
"We're ready." Kyoko stated to their host, who remained in front of the class. "Take us back."
Spirit nodded. "Very well…" He held his hand, ready to clap and teleport them all back. "I gave you much to work with, in order to stop the 'biggest, most awful, most tragic event in human history'. If you accept the offer to watch the sequel, with the other class within Hope's Peak, I can give you more. Regardless, I hope this'll help you all to stop the Tragedy, as well as the killing game, from ever happening."
The reactions to his words varied. Some looked uncertain, wondering if they were able to keep such an event from happening. Others were more fearful at the idea of it all coming to pass, regardless of what they do. Some took to glaring at Junko, making it clear that they aren't letting her out of their sight anytime soon.
But overall? There was clear determination reflected in the eyes of all the Ultimates.
'I'm gonna be braver. And stronger.' Chihiro promised to himself, resolve reflecting on his face. 'I… want to change. Just like future me. Be as brave as Makoto. As strong as Mondo.'
'I won't let this future come to pass. I won't lose everything to despair…' Sayaka swore, guilt and resolution swirling into one. 'But I won't sacrifice my friends to keep that from happening. ANY of my friends. I'm not gonna repeat that same mistake.'
'Enoshima will not be allowed to create this future.' Byakuya declared, almost as a fact. 'I will not allow myself to be played by her. And the Togami family will remain strong. Even stronger than now.'
'...I'm sorry, sister. But I won't let you have this future.' Mukuro vowed, her grip tightening slightly around her sister's wrists. 'Nor will I allow you to bring Makoto into despair. I will protect him… as well as you. From yourself.'
Silent promises and vows were made by each of the Ultimate students. Promises to stop this killing game before it could even start, to keep Junko from ever creating the Tragedy, personal vows to better themselves and not repeat their future selves' failings…
Makoto, especially, felt determined to stop any of what they saw. 'This was created to help all of us.' He thought, recalling what their host said to them at the very start. 'I won't let it go to waste. I'll do everything I can to ensure that this DOES help.'
He didn't know if there's anything he'll be able to do personally. Didn't know if he could live up to the title his future self was granted, that of the Ultimate Hope. He's definitely not sure if he could actively give Junko hope, especially when the others might not feel excited about that idea.
But he's going to try. Cause that's all that he can do. And being the optimist that he is was what he's best at. So he's gonna do his best to ensure that all his friends are able to live a life full of hope and happiness.
Junko will never get her world of despair. That he swore to himself.
Having said his peace, Spirit clapped. And instantly, he and the 78th Class of Hope's Peak were teleported back to the school. Thus ends the viewing of the second killing game of Hope's Peak…
…And making room for the next killing game to be witnessed.
