Honour. Obey. Cherish.

Summary:

The war is over. Harry Potter has done the one thing no one expected: he surrendered. He walked into Voldemort's arms of his own free will, signed a marriage contract with his own hand, and they swore three vows before witnesses. Honor. Obey. Cherish.

In exchange, everyone he loves is safe. The contract guarantees it. As long as Harry keeps his word, the surviving Order members, the Weasleys, his friends—all of them live. It is the last choice of a man who has spent his life sacrificing himself for others, and he makes it with his eyes open. He knows what kind of creature he is marrying. He knows what the vows will require of him.

He is not prepared for what happens on the wedding night.

Notes:

Take care of yourselves. This story depicts coerced intimate situations framed as ‘dark romance,’ and it’s meant to be disturbing. If you need to pause, the story will still be here when you’re ready. If you need to stop and leave forever while howling at the horror of it all, it’s more than ok. There’s no version of this that’s meant to be romantic, and your discomfort is the intended response.

However, comments and feedback are welcomed. As you will see, I suffer from a terminal case of Harrymort Syndrom and I am in desperate need of like-minded friends to scream with before the madness take me for good. (Or bad in this instance).

Chapter Text

Harry paced.

He couldn’t stop.

The fire in the hearth had burned down to embers, and he hadn't called a house-elf to tend it. Calling meant speaking, and speaking meant hearing his own voice break the silence, and that would make everything real in a way he wasn't ready for.

The plush rug swallowed his footsteps, but his nuptial robes rustled with every move, a persistent whisper that followed him back and forth.

I researched the threefold rites, Hermione had said, her voice barely above a whisper. This is how it's done in pureblood covens. The bride's community dresses them. Each layer is a blessing. A promise that they are not alone.

He crossed his arms, his hands disappearing into the billowing sleeves. He'd never worn anything so fine. The silk was impossibly smooth, layer upon layer of sheer fabric that shimmered faintly in the candlelight, each one laid across his shoulders by someone who loved him. So many layers they became opaque, hiding the tremors he couldn't quite control beneath a weight he could barely feel.

Wrapped in the love of his past, delivered like a gift to his future. Someone had said that during the ceremony. The words had felt like a curse then. They still did.

Harry stroked the fabric, trying to emulate the warmth of his people’s touch, and drew a shaky breath. He was still afraid—he'd been afraid since the moment he signed the contract—but the robes reminded him why he'd signed it. The people who had dressed him were safe. The contract guaranteed it. As long as Harry kept his word, as long as he honoured and obeyed, the Weasleys and Hermione and the Order members and everyone who had ever fought beside him would live. Not in hiding. Not on the run. Live. Thrive, even, in the new world Voldemort was building, a world that had no place for blood traitors and Muggleborns unless Harry Potter was the one standing between them and the Dark Lord's wrath.

What did a creature like that want with a spouse? Would it be a political union in name only? The question was a desperate prayer, and Harry clung to it because the alternative was unbearable.

He'd seen Voldemort's body. That night in the graveyard, when the cauldron had boiled and the thing had risen, he'd seen everything. The pale limbs. The inhuman proportions. The terrible size of him before the robes had settled over his serpentine form. He'd been fourteen and terrified and he'd looked anyway, and the image had never left him.

A cold knot tightened in his gut. If Voldemort wanted to consummate the marriage—

Harry stopped the thought before it could finish. He couldn't afford to spiral. There was still a chance that this night would pass without that particular horror. Voldemort had said it was Harry's obedience he wanted, not his body.

The latch clicked.

Harry spun. His hand dropped from the robes, his body snapping into a defensive stance before his mind caught up—and there was Voldemort, stepping through the doorway, closing the door behind him.

Harry flinched back. A full step, his weight shifting to the balls of his feet, his hand twitching toward a wand that wasn't there. Years of instinct, of survival, of facing this creature across battlefields and graveyards and the shattered remains of the Great Hall. His heart slammed against his ribs.

Voldemort stood by the door, his head tilting as he took in Harry's rigid posture, the way his breath had caught, the flush of adrenaline that was already fading into something more complicated.

A smile curved his lipless mouth.

"Old habits," he murmured.

Harry forced himself to straighten. His hands were trembling. He pressed them flat against his thighs. "You startled me."

"Did I?" Voldemort crossed the room, and Harry held his ground, though every nerve screamed at him to retreat. "I used the door of my own chambers. I hardly thought that would be startling."

He stopped an arm's length away. Close enough that Harry could smell him. His crimson eyes traced over Harry's face, then down, over the layers of ivory and silver, over the hands still pressed against his thighs.

"You waited for me." Satisfaction warmed his voice. "I am pleased. It would have been disappointing to find you had attempted to divest yourself of your nuptial robes before my arrival."

Harry's face went hot. The blush climbed up his neck and spread across his cheeks before he could stop it, because he had tried. That was the first thing he'd done, alone in this room. He'd pulled and twisted and achieved nothing but a growing sense of trapped helplessness.

Voldemort's smile sharpened. "Ah. So you were not as patient as you appeared."

Harry's throat worked. "I didn't know—"

"You didn't know the robes were spelled." Voldemort finished the sentence for him, his tone almost conversational. "No. I did not expect you to. The tradition is old, and your education in the old ways is woefully incomplete. A failing I intend to remedy."

Harry nodded. The blush still burned on his cheeks.

"Good." Voldemort reached out, and Harry forced himself still. Long, pale fingers brushed the edge of the outermost layer, tracing the silk with a reverence that made Harry's stomach turn. "The honour of unwrapping a bride belongs to a husband alone. It is a privilege and a right." His eyes lifted to Harry's. "I intend to claim it."

Harry's voice came out steadier than he felt. "I understand."

"Not quite yet. But you will.” His smile deepened. “Come to me now, my little war bride."

Harry pressed his eyes shut. One breath. Two. He found the quiet place inside himself—the cold resolve that had carried him through every impossible thing he'd ever done. Then he opened his eyes and took a step forward.

Voldemort watched him come. The smile still lingered at the corners of his mouth, but his eyes were intent now, drinking in the small surrender of that single step.

Harry stopped within reach. Close enough that if he breathed too deeply, the silk of his robes would brush the front of Voldemort's own. He forced himself to lift his chin, to meet those crimson eyes, to hold his ground even as every instinct screamed at him to to pull away.

Voldemort raised his hand.

Harry locked every muscle. He would not flinch. He would not flinch.

A cool fingertip touched his forehead, tracing the lightning bolt scar. The touch was light, almost reverent, and Harry's skin prickled under it. Down the bridge of his nose, the fingertip trailing slow as a held breath. Over his lips, which parted slightly without his permission. Down his chin, tilting it higher. Down the column of his throat, where his pulse beat a frantic rhythm against the pale skin.

Voldemort's eyes followed the path of his finger with greedy fascination.

His fingertip reached the collar of Harry’s robes. Paused there, resting against the hollow of Harry's throat.

"Such a great many layers," Voldemort murmured. His voice was soft, almost wondering. "Your community must care for you deeply. How fortunate for you, to be so loved."

Harry said nothing. His heart was pounding so hard he was certain Voldemort could feel his pulse through the silk.

Then Voldemort circled behind him. The fingertip never left his skin. It traced the collar from the hollow of his throat, along his shoulder, and now to the nape of his neck, pushing aside the short hairs there with a touch that was almost tender.

Harry stared straight ahead. The pale damask walls were bare. Near the ceiling, a scorch mark had blackened the fabric, the plaster beneath it blistered. He could feel Voldemort standing behind him, close enough that the hem of his robes brushed the back of Harry's bare feet.

The finger traced down his spine.

"Beautiful," Voldemort breathed, and the word was a whisper against the shell of Harry's ear. Harry shuddered. He couldn't help it.

And then the outermost layer of his robes sheared away, fluttering to the floor like a wounded ghost. Harry flinched. A choked sound escaped him.

Molly's layer. She'd wept when she placed it, her blessing half-finished, Arthur's voice joining hers when she couldn't go on. Now it lay on the rug like shed skin, and Harry felt the absence of it like a wound reopening.

Another gesture. Another layer fell. Hermione’s, her bushy hair tied back as she’d whispered a charm for resilience. Gone.

Ron's, placed with a firm grip on his shoulder that had said more than words. Severed now.

Each fall of silk was a severing of a bond. Harry’s eyes burned, but he forced himself to witness the desecration of the only things he’d been permitted to bring from his old life.

His skin appeared in increments—the curve of a shoulder, the ridge of a collarbone, the vulnerable dip of his lower back—until he stood naked in the firelight, and the last layer drifted down to join the others. Cool air pricked his torso, his spine, the backs of his thighs.

Voldemort's hands settled on Harry's shoulders. A gentle pressure, and Harry was turning—his bare feet shuffling on the silk rug, until he stood facing his husband.

His hands dropped to cover his groin.

Long fingers circled the delicate bones, halting Harry's hands halfway to their destination. Harry's breath stuttered. He was naked, and Voldemort was fully robed, and those crimson eyes were all over him now.

"No," Voldemort murmured. "You will not hide from me. Not tonight. Not ever."

He lifted Harry's captured hands, drawing them up between their bodies. Harry's arms trembled with the strain of being held, of being exposed, of being unable to do anything but stand there and let it happen. His pulse hammered against Voldemort's thumbs.

Voldemort looked at him—at the flush spreading down his chest, at the goosebumps prickling his arms, at the way his throat worked around words that wouldn't come—and smiled.

Then he bowed his head and pressed his mouth to the inside of Harry's wrist.

Harry jerked, but the grip held. The sensation was warm and wet and impossibly intimate—lips parting against the thin skin where his pulse beat closest to the surface, the scrape of teeth, the pressure of a tongue. Harry stood frozen, unable to do anything but feel it happen.

When Voldemort lifted his head, a dark bruise was blooming on Harry's wrist. He studied it for a moment, his expression one of quiet satisfaction. Then he turned Harry's other hand and pressed his mouth to the matching pulse point on the left wrist, slow and thorough, until a second mark rose to match the first.

The marks throbbed in time with his heartbeat, twin claims stamped into his skin. Voldemort's crimson eyes met his, and there was something almost tender in them—something greedy and patient and utterly without mercy.

He stepped backwards, drawing Harry with him with the same unhurried grace with which he did everything.

Harry followed. His hands were captured, and resisting would mean stumbling forward against his chest or falling to his knees before his parent’s killer. So he walked, step by step, until the backs of Voldemort's legs met the sofa and he sank onto the cushions, releasing his hands.

Harry stood naked in the dying firelight. Voldemort's eyes consumed him inch by inch, from the flush on his throat to the trembling of his thighs. It was the gaze of a man studying something he had waited a very long time to possess.

Harry's fingers twitched. He did not cover himself. The lesson had already been delivered.

“Now that you are mine, darling wife,” Voldemort murmured, and the endearment was a shard of ice. “I shall demonstrate what will happen if you dare disrespect your marriage vows.”

The vows. They echoed in Harry’s mind, a death knell. Honour and obey. The safety of everyone he loved was bound in those three words. No task too arduous, no humiliation too great, if it meant they could live.

"I know your nature, my wife. Stubborn. Reckless. Foolishly willful. You have spent years defying everyone who tried to control you, and you are very good at it." He paused. "But it ends tonight. This is not a punishment for what you have done. It is a lesson in what disobedience will cost you going forward. By the time this night is over, you will understand the price. And you will thank me for teaching you."

Harry's voice came out scraped and raw. "I am not afraid of pain."

"No?" Voldemort tilted his head. "I wonder. But we shall find out. Lay yourself across my lap."

A spanking. He was going to be spanked.

Humiliation, hot and acidic, flooded him—but beneath it, something tragic and comic at once.

He'd been here before. Not like this, not with this man, not with these stakes. But the Dursleys had taught him how to take a blow. He never thought he would one day be grateful for their abuse.

He had chosen this. He would hold himself to it.

His body fought him with every movement. His knees locked. His legs were shaking. He had to force each limb into place—the lean forward, the press of his groin against the warmth, the mortifying exposure of his bare arse. His hands found a cushion and held on.

A hand settled on his lower back.

“Almost. But I require perfection. Turn your head, darling. Look at me.”

Harry craned his neck, his eyes meeting Voldemort’s inverted gaze.

There. That's the posture of an honourable wife. Keep your eyes on me. I want you to remember who it is that corrects you.”

His hand lifted. After that, time dissolved and Harry’s night became fragments.

The sound came before the pain—a searing crack that echoed in the high-ceilinged room. Then a blistering line of fire alighted across his skin, and Harry's breath left him in a rush. A sound escaped his throat before he could stop it.

Nothing could have prepared him for this.

Uncle Vernon had been brute force, a thick palm driven by anger and gin. Voldemort's hand struck with the exactness of a curse. Harry's fingers clenched in the cushion. His eyes stung. He had told this man he wasn't afraid of pain. He had been a fool.

Above him, Voldemort paused.

The silence stretched. Harry could hear his own breathing, too loud and too fast. He could feel the weight of Voldemort’s gaze on his mouth.

"Have you forgotten something, wife?"

The voice was soft. Inquiring. The kind of voice one might use with a slow child who was trying very hard and still failing.

Harry stared up at him. Voldemort’s face was expectant, his red eyes gleaming in the firelight. His mind was a blank wash of shock. The pain was still spreading, still demanding every scrap of his attention, and Voldemort was asking him something, and he—

“I…” Harry’s voice came out hoarse. “I don’t—”

A click of the tongue. Disappointed. The sound of a tutor whose pupil had fumbled the simplest question.

"You swore to honour me, wife. Or were those pretty words just sounds you made to placate me?” Voldemort tilted his head. “Honour. It means that when your husband provides you with his attention, his guidance, his care—” the word was a scalpel wrapped in silk — “you offer thanks in return. This is not complicated. Even you, with your atrocious upbringing and your Gryffindor’s disdain for etiquette, can grasp this much.”

Harry’s mind raced. Gratitude. For the care. The words rearranged themselves, finding their obscene logic. This wasn’t just a punishment. This was care. This was a husband teaching his wife what obedience required. This was a lesson, and lessons demanded thanks.

A shiver ran through him, cold and deep, settling somewhere beneath his ribs.

The faces of his friends rose in his mind. If they could wake tomorrow in a world where Voldemort’s shadow didn’t fall across their doors—then Harry could say two words. He could say a thousand words. He could learn an entirely new vocabulary if that’s what it took.

He swallowed.

"Thank you," he whispered.

The silence that followed was brief. Then Harry’s head snapped to the side. His cheek blazed.

“Why,” Voldemort asked, and his voice had not risen, had not changed, remained soft as a lover’s murmur, “would you think that is the proper way to address me? ‘Thank you’, as if you were speaking to a stranger who held a door. As if you were not laid across your husband’s lap on your wedding night. Have you already forgotten what I am to you?”

Harry’s face stung. His mind scrambled. “I—”

“Try again. And do try to engage whatever portion of your brain survives from that mediocre education. I know Dumbledore coddled you, but surely even he taught you how to address your betters?”

"Thank you, My Lord."

The second correction came just as fast. Harry’s cheek bloomed with heat again, and his eyes watered despite himself.

Voldemort sighed. It was an impatient sound, the exhalation of a man who had hoped for better and been disappointed by reality.

“I was assured you were not stupid. Your transcripts suggested a reasonable intelligence. Your tactical choices in battle have occasionally bordered on clever. And yet here you are, failing the simplest possible question.” He looked down at Harry, and his expression was one of genuine incomprehension. “Did today’s ceremony already slip your mind? Did the vows evaporate the moment the words left your mouth? What are you to me now, Harry? What am I to you?”

Harry’s chest heaved. He looked up into those red eyes, searching for the right answer, the safe answer.

The ceremony. Honour and obey. What he was to Voldemort now. A wife. And Voldemort was his—

“Thank you,” Harry said, hesitant, barely breathing, “husband?”

The coldness didn’t leave Voldemort’s eyes, but something in his expression unlocked. Pleasure, of a kind. He reached down, and his long fingers stroked the cheek he had just corrected, the touch impossibly gentle.

“There you are,” he murmured. “ I knew that clever tongue could find the right words eventually. It just needed proper encouragement.”

His hand smoothed a strand of hair behind Harry’s ear, lingered at his jaw, tilted his chin up so their eyes met fully.

“Yes, wife. I am your husband.” The word was a caress and a brand. “Not your Lord. Not your master. Those titles are for everyone else. You alone get to call me husband. Do you understand what an honour that is? Billions of souls on this earth, and you are the only one who may speak that word to me. I suggest you learn to savour it.”

His thumb traced Harry’s lower lip, feather light.

“Take care that my title shall always be on your lips. When you speak to me, and when you speak of me, and when you are alone with nothing but your thoughts for company. I want ‘husband’ to be the first word your mind reaches for. The only word. The word that means you are mine, and there is nothing in this world that will ever come between us. Do you understand, my precious, my impossible little wife?”

Harry’s throat was too tight for speech. The petting, the praise, the casual degradation, the absolute possession—it swirled together into something that left him dizzy and hollow and strange. He nodded, the motion small and restricted, his cheek still cradled in Voldemort’s palm.

“Good.” The hand withdrew. The tenderness folded away. “Then let us continue. And this time, wife—do not make me correct you again. I would hate to think I married a creature incapable of learning.”

The hand settled on Harry's buttocks again. Harry's cheek still throbbed where he'd been struck, and his eyes still stung, and somewhere beneath his ribs a cold knot of something that might have been shame or might have been fury had lodged itself and wouldn't move.

Then the lesson resumed.

The second blow landed harder than the first. Harry's teeth clicked together. The sound he made was trapped somewhere between a gasp and a groan, and he barely had time to process the flare of heat before the words were clawing their way out of his throat.

"Thank you, husband."

The third blow came before he'd finished speaking. The fourth followed, and the fifth, a rhythm establishing itself with methodical precision. Each strike was placed with the exactness of a curse, and each one demanded its answer.

Thank you, husband.

Thank you, husband.

The words became a reflex. A heartbeat. A thing his mouth shaped without his mind's permission. The pain built in layers—a deep, radiating heat that spread from the point of impact outward, sinking into muscle, settling into bone. Harry's fingers clenched in the cushion. His knuckles were white. He kept his eyes open because he'd been told to, kept his gaze fixed on Voldemort's face because anything less would be corrected. He was learning.

Voldemort's expression never changed. That was the worst part. The serene satisfaction, the faint curve of his lipless mouth, the red eyes that tracked every flinch, every swallowed cry, every tremor that ran through Harry's thighs. He was not angry. He was not enjoying this in any crude or obvious way. He was simply... pleased. The way a craftsman might be pleased watching his tool perform exactly as designed.

"You're doing well," Voldemort observed. His voice was conversational, almost warm. "Better than I expected, if I'm honest. I anticipated more defiance. But you've always been a quick study when properly motivated, haven't you?"

Harry couldn't answer. The rhythm didn't pause for answers. The heat was becoming a throbbing ache that made his whole body feel raw and tender and too present. He was acutely aware of his own skin in a way he had never been before. Every inch of it. Every nerve.

Thank you, husband.

His voice was getting hoarse.

"You see, darling, pain has a purpose." Voldemort's hand continued its work, unhurried and precise. "It instructs. It clarifies. It reminds the body of truths the mind might prefer to forget. Do you feel clearer now than you did an hour ago?"

Another blow. Harry gasped. "Yes—husband—"

"Yes. Clarity is a gift. Are you grateful for it?"

The question was a blade slipped between his ribs. Harry closed his eyes for a fraction of a second—just a blink, just a moment of weakness—and Voldemort's hand stilled.

"Look at me."

Harry's eyes flew open. Voldemort was gazing down at him, and the patience in his expression had acquired a sharp edge.

"I require your full presence, wife. Your attention is not optional. Am I understood?"

Harry's throat worked. "Yes, husband."

"Good." The edge receded. The hand resumed its place on Harry's back. "Then try to keep those lovely eyes on me. You have no idea how much I enjoy them."

Soon, Harry's voice cracked, and he felt the tears coming—a hot welling that blurred his vision and spilled over before he could stop them. He hadn't cried in years. Not when Sirius fell. Not when he walked into the forest to die. But his body was no longer taking orders from his pride, and the tears tracked down his cheeks in silent, mortifying streams.

Voldemort stopped again.

"Oh, darling," he breathed. His voice was still so soft, almost sorrowful. "What a mess you're making of yourself."

Harry couldn't speak. He was shaking. His whole body was shaking, and he couldn't make it stop.

Voldemort's thumb brushed beneath his eye, catching a tear before it could fall. He examined it for a moment, turning his hand slightly so the firelight caught the droplet. Then he brought his thumb to Harry's lips, smearing salt across his tongue. Voldemort withdrew his thumb slowly, dragging it across Harry's lower lip as he pulled away.

"Tears are for children," he said quietly. "Are you a child?"

Harry's voice was a wrecked whisper. "No, husband."

"What are you?"

"I am your wife."

"And you are a reflection of me now." The words were a caress and a collar. "You will not present yourself with a wet face and reddened eyes. Am I understood?"

"Yes, husband."

"Then rise. Go to the bathroom. Dry your face. And come back to me. We are not finished."

Harry pushed himself up on unsteady legs, the world swimming. The walk was a journey of agony. He stumbled into the bathroom, gripping the cold sink, and met his own red-rimmed eyes in the mirror. He was a mess. The face of a man being methodically broken. But he turned on the tap, splashed the cold water on his face, dried it with a plush towel, and took a breath that was more of a sob.

For them.

He walked back, a little steadier, and resettled himself on Voldemort’s lap.

Inevitably, the tears came back. Each time the command was the same, and each time the walk to the sink became harder. The pain accumulated, and his mind started to fray at the edges. His world shrank to Voldemort’s crimson gaze and the heat of his palm, distilled to its purest form: a loop of pain, gratitude, tears, purge.

Finally, when he tried to stand after a particularly brutal series had reduced him to waterworks, his legs buckled. He collapsed to his knees on the rug with a sharp cry, the impact jarring his entire body. He tried to rise, his muscles screaming in protest, but he only managed to sway before falling again. He looked back at Voldemort, his face a mask of animal distress, a silent plea for this one mercy.

A terrible smile curved his lipless mouth. "Such a state you’re in. But you have a task to complete, wife. I do not recall excusing you from it."

There was no relief to be found. And the safety of his loved ones was not a conditional bargain.

So Harry placed his palms flat on the cold floor. And he crawled. Every inch was agony, his back and thighs screaming. He forced himself forward, thinking of Ron’s freckled grin, Hermione’s determined eyes, the sound of laughter in the Burrow. Alive. Safe.

He crawled.

He cleaned his face with clumsy hands, ignoring his blurry reflection. He crawled back, his arms trembling with exhaustion, the distance to the sofa an endless expanse as he fought to contain the tears that already threatened to spill again. His vision tunnelled. He focused only on the base of the sofa, on Voldemort’s shoes, on the final few feet. He had to make it back. He had to present himself. He had to.

He was two feet away when his arms gave out completely. His body slumped forward, his forehead coming to rest just at the toe of Voldemort’s boots. Above him, Voldemort looked down. The firelight carved shadows into the hollows of his face.

The darkness was already creeping in at the edges of Harry's vision. He was dimly aware of the rug beneath him, the distant crackle of the fire, the taste of salt still clinging to his tongue. A voice reached him through the closing dark. The voice of a man speaking to something he owned and cherished.

"Sleep well, wife. Tomorrow, your new life begins."

Harry tried to answer. But his mouth wouldn't move, and the words wouldn't come, and the darkness was gentle and deep and impossible to refuse.

His last thought, before it took him, was that he would have to do better tomorrow.

From The Noble Household: A Guide to Wifely Devotion and Marital Harmony, Chapter VI: On Managing the Tears of a New Bride (18th Ed., Apex Publishing & Guild Press, 1789)

[Catalogued under: Manor Governance & Domestic Discipline — Lucius Malfoy’s Lord Voldemort’s Private Study, Shelf IX]

“It is the unfortunate nature of new brides to weep when confronted with the firm hand of authority. A wise husband does not take offence at these little displays, for a wife’s brain is a delicate, foolish thing, easily overwhelmed by the sudden weight of proper guidance. Should she indulge in vapours, sobbing, or dramatic collapses upon the rug, do not despair. Permit her to purge her tears, and she shall return to the knee far more tractable than before. To halt a lesson merely because she has grown hysterical is a grave disservice; if left uncorrected, she may go on believing she is a creature capable of governing herself. With patience, the most stubborn will soon exchange her defiance for quiet gratitude.”

Voldemort, unzipping Harry’s robes: This is the most romantic thing I’ve ever done.

Harry, naked and terrified: I am begging you to develop a different hobby.

The three vows, translated: Honour (say thank you), Obey (don’t flinch), Cherish (crawl back when you’re told).

Voldemort really said, ‘I’m not going to hurt you, I’m going to educate you.’

Harry, passing out at Voldemort's feet: Nailed it. Perfect wife material.

If you squint, this is just the worst TED Talk on marital advice ever delivered.”
