Chapter Text
The thunderstorm came as no surprise to Galadriel and Halbrand after a week of clear azure skies and an intense all-encompassing heat.
But Celebrían was fascinated by the way the sky had darkened as the evening had drawn on, the vivid blue being replaced with heavy iron grey clouds that swirled overhead.
She sat on the floor of the conservatory in her green jungle print pyjamas, silver blonde curls askew after a day running riot in the garden, utterly mesmerised as the first drops of rain began to fall.
Halbrand stood in the doorway to the kitchen, leaning on the frame with his arms folded, watching his daughter. She'd turned three two weeks ago and he'd never felt the time slipping away so fast.
The rain thrummed on the glass ceiling of the conservatory and the first flash of lighting split the sky and Celebrían jumped, scrambling to her feet. In two long strides, Halbrand was sitting down next to her, putting his arm around her waist as a long, low rumble reverberated around them.
"Atto!"
Celebrían's hushed whisper in Halbrand's ear wasn't scared, rather amazed.
He glanced sideways at her. Her hazel eyes, the exact copy of his, were wide and staring at the sky in utter wonder as a second fork of lighting streaked bright overhead, the light slightly blurred by the rainwater pooling on the roof.
Celebrían remained standing, but leaned into his side, her little hand resting lightly on his shoulder.
"It's so cool Atto!"
"Isn't it, vilvarinya."
Celebrían giggled and planted a wet kiss on Halbrand's cheek as Galadriel's call of "bed time" echoed from upstairs.
