Infatuation
In all the time Percy had known Annabeth, she had been his near constant companion.
Never far away, and when they were separated, they fought tooth and nail to get back to each other.
For all that time though, Percy had thought they were just friends—best friends maybe, but nothing more.
Although he recognized what they had was not exactly normal friends closeness…
Time was scarce, and time to dwell on the possibly budding romance between him and the most important person in his life even more so.
Underneath all the excuses for avoiding the topic though was fear.
After all, besides his mom, he had no one else who supported him, who understood him, who accepted him for who he truly was; unconditionally.
The possibility that he might confess, only be turned down and lose her terrified him.
It felt impossible that she could ever return his feelings; that his ugly, selfish need for her would hurt the most person he loved most.
Only… she's kissed him… and now…
Now his feelings threatened to pour out of him like a tidal wave.
