Chapter Text
The 5-STAR agency has grown more and more sophisticated by the years, going as far as to have what possibly are the best headquarters in all of South Korea, it's reputation clean, flawless and spotless, living up to their name, managing to catch even the most complicated or structured criminal groups with insane precision — the media wants to say it's ease, but in reality, there's a lot of planning going on, according to what has been said in a documentary shot in their 20 year anniversary.
Of course, most of their current fame carries the name of their best Captain yet; Bang Chan, leader of the MIROH unit.
He, alongside his team, have managed to really keep Seoul safe and tidy from the hands of vandalism and criminals, this result of their years or hard work — it doesn't matter how much the masses or the agency itself somehow tries to say this is ALL Chan's work, he always refuses to take all of the credit and firmly states that his team members have played crucial roles in their missions or have supplied ideas he wouldn't have had not even in his wildest dreams.
Such fame has made people think… How is their process of working? How to they deploy their investigations? How much chemistry do they really have indoors? Said questions have naturally sparked… Interesting answer on the internet:
"I don't think they like each other, they're probably waiting for the downfall of one of them just to take the credit"
"I believe they take their work seriously… I don't think they hate each other, but I'm pretty sure their relationship has to be strictly professional… Just a hunch."
And so on and so forth…
But even with the press trying desperately asking questions, neither of them are willing to answer and decide to keep their relationship inside and outside work fully private, which has made the rumors just keep growing… However they seem to not be bothered at all…
At the end, the truth is…
— So… I firmly believe we should just break in, no negotiations, no preambles, just kick the door, and bam! they can't escape anymore.
— Jisung… I don't think that's the usual protoco—
— But while we do the whole speech they could get away and then we'll go back to square one… Do you know how much I had to dig to find their hideout?
Chan couldn't help but sigh in exasperation…
— Yes, I know, I am aware, you complained for almost a wee—
— I still don't know why tho, didn't you said you wanted to do it and that you WANTED the experience? — interrupted Seungmin as he casually took a sip of water, looking wholly and completely unamused by Jisung's whining — Like… That was meant to be MY job but you literally begged Chan Hyung over here to let you do it instead, didn't you?
— Ah… Kim Seungmin, can't you stay in your fucking business?
— Not after you meddled with mine.
Even with the glares, there was no genuine bite in neither of their voices… Just deep and potent sarcasm that at the end of the day held no malice whatsoever… And that made Chan feel like facepalming himself but also giggle at the same time for how silly their banter just looks.
Before Chan could even START to progress with their planning, the door of the meeting room busts open revealing Changbin clearly struggling with the amount of bags he ha on himself right now… To which Chan only squints at him.
— Changbin… You are 20 whole minutes late…
— Sorry hyung, I know, i should've been earlier but I swear this super cool burger place had like a TON of things with 30% off and I KNEW I had to buy some… But I brought something for everyone!
The genuine joy in his voice could've made Chan forget he is — they are — literally in the middle of an important meeting if it weren't for the fact he really wanted to wrap this up so he could get home…
Although the promise of food sounded way TOO enticing.
— Changbin hyung… You could've LITERALLY bought all of that without discount? Why are you acting like you're lacking money? I would never guess you come from a rich family to be honest… — Even with his comment, Jisung was the VERY first one to go check what Changbin brought with him, trying to pick which of these precious burgers was gonna be his prey.
— God forbid a man wants to save money? I can't just… SPEND everything recklessl—
— But you DO when it comes to food, y'know that, hyung?
Seungmin once again interrupted, but just like Jisung, approached to see what Changbin had in store, even with the feign nonchalance, his eyes betrayed his excitement, looking akin to a hungry puppy.
— Yah! I bring you guys food and THIS is how you treat me?
— Shhh, this is our way to say thank you!
— Y'know what? No food for any of you.
Changbin suddenly closed the bag and walked away from the two boys, the latter ones immediately started to whine, and Changbin just whined back… A messy battle of who could be louder, suddenly turned into a chase, Seungmin and Jisung both teaming up to corner Changbin and stealing the burgers that probably, in their eyes, worth more than any relique at a museum…
And just when they almost had Changbin backed up against the table, Chan abruptly got in between them, looking at the three younger boys with a very serious expression, and just snatching the bag from Changbin's hand, meeting no resistance apparently.
— Hyun—
— No food for neither of you, how about that? We are on the clock. Yeah?
All three seemed to deflate a little as Chan turned around with the precious goods in hand… He did have a point, they were working and they sort of got distracted…
Or that's what they were thinking until Chan shamelessly opened the bag and took a burger out, unwrapping it as he hummed, pleased with himself. Even with his back turned towards the others, they could FEEL the dumb smile that was definitively forming in Chan's lips.
All three younger men were in utter shock, watching Chan take a bite as if they weren't even there…
Until Changbin snapped first.
— Yah!!
And suddenly an array of complains and whines filled the room — Chan was so thankful it was soundproofed, there's no way he could explain this to anyone that passed by — Chan's loud laugh topping the mess of sounds like a perfect symphony.
What? He could never deny his boys sweet leisure time, they do deserve a little break after working so hard this week.
He could always rest now and then finish work at home.
