"Iiiiih, how come when it's Kenneth's or Wex's birthday, dapat ikikiss ko sila?" A four-year old little Sherwin whines as his favorite neighbor and playmate, Risa, crosses her arms before him and turns her head away with the biggest attitude her now seven-year old self can conjure. "Bakit pag ikaw, hindi pwede?"
The poor boy pouts and stomps his foot in protest, and he still looks so cute that it almost melts Risa.
But she stands her ground and keeps her cheek away from the clingy little kid before her.
She is now seven, and seven-year old girls just don't play with little babies... like Sherwin. Well, not as much. She still wants to play with him. But he won't get to kiss this big girl just because he wants to. Even when it's her seventh birthday. Especially, because it's finally her seventh birthday.
"I'm a big girl na, Win. Hindi na pwede basta magpakiss," she explains, feeling full of newfound big girl wisdom. She even motions one hand from her forehead towards the top of Win's head. "See, o, I'm even a lot taller than you na."
Sherwin's little lips start curving down while his puppy eyes are pinned on Risa.
Risa's resolve actually starts to crumble that her crossed arms are now on her sides, waiting for her to decide if she should just give in and hug her sweet little playmate. But she holds back, and instead hesitantly sticks her tongue out.
"You're only allowed to kiss me whenever, pag mas matangkad ka na sa akin," she says, confident in the fact that she's older.
Sherwin yet again huffs and puffs. And then he does one loud gasp before running really fast inside the house, leaving Risa feeling guilty, and a bit worried that she might have unintentionally hurt her friend.
However, not even a minute later, she hears Sherwin's cute voice shouting her name as he runs back out to the party outside. "Wisaaaaa!"
He was in such a rush, but he couldn't actually run because he was wobbling so much on what looks like his mother's extremely high-heeled shoes.
Out of breath, but still with a smirk on his face that Risa will have to see many more times when they grow up, Sherwin loudly asks, "Wisa, I'm taller na, pwede na kita ikiss?!"
