Work Text:
In a corridor within the great hall, the space was illuminated by the deep blue hue of the sea as you walked alongside Vinanna.
You felt it, the gazes around you and the hushed whispers of snooping Witches.
“There they are…”
“Wasn't it just hearsay?”
‘“Is it that person?”
“impossible…”
Though all it took was one quick glare from Vinanna and they all wisely decided to look the other way, letting out a few curses before fleeing like prey.
‘Tch’
Vinanna pauses, her serious expression softening into an amused one as she sees you turn your eyes towards her.
“What are you looking at me for? You're the one who brought this trouble upon yourself.”
The noise around you had quite the obvious cause. The rumor that a witch, -not a particularly famous one at that- had managed to worm their way into the heart of one of the three wise, let alone the captain of the feared knights moralis, quickly got passed around like a hot carapace yam.
News spreads amongst witches annoyingly fast.
“Aren't you worried too?” You asked.
“I've dealt with more harrowing things than gossip,” she scoffed, mildly offended at your question.
As the two of you continued to walk, the tension in the air returned as a figure came close.
With long black hair and a serious look, you couldn't mistake him for anyone else.
It was the Deputy Captain of the knights! But more awkwardly, also your partner's apprentice. Easthies.
Without acknowledging your presence, he kneels to Vinanna.
Before he could greet her, she immediately noticed there was definitely something else weighing heavy on his mind besides his usual duties.
“I know what you're thinking,” she says.
“Pardon me, but there have just been a disrespectful rumour spreading about you, and I couldn't have it-”
Vinanna dismissed him. “It's of no concern to you.”
“Forgive me then, for bringing up trifling matters.”
Everything seemed settled but while the two of you moved past him…
Easthies noticed it.
Vinanna's hand,
slowly reaching for your hand.
‘?!?!’
His eyes twitched, his mouth slightly agape as he watched you both.
Vinanna turned to him one last time.
“And don't call me unless it's for something important.
I'll be busy today.”
“…?” Easthies was left stunned within the hall.
While her hand was warm to the touch, From then on, you would always feel a murderous gaze behind your back when inside the great hall.
