Chapter 1: The Commander Awakens

Chapter Text

I don't own Azur Lane or any other series in this fic. please support all official releases.

William's POV

If I was being honest with myself, I really should have expected this outcome.

"Well… shit. I actually died." I muttered to myself as I floated in a dull gray void of all places. Was this purgatory? It was way too nice to be Hell, and way too drab and boring to be Heaven.

Really, it's my own fault for volunteering for the United States Navy with the tension the world was in, but in my defense, I didn't expect World War III to break out a year into my deployment.

Honestly it was a miracle I even lasted as long as I did. The Carrier Group I was in was attacked so many times that by the time I did die, I was among the most veteran troops in the navy. Sure, I wasn't a pilot, but I was the one who sent them on their way down the flight deck.

And sure, I may have died, and sure, the Carrier may have sunk, but we got our pound of flesh by sinking well over three dozen enemy ships ourselves before we finally went down. Hell, we were only taken out by a literal nuclear missile directly impacting the ship, so if anything we probably would have survived the war if it didn't go nuclear.

But it did go nuclear and now I was dead. I just hope my folks back home were alright and didn't grieve me long.

I was brought from my thoughts however as a golden ball of light manifested in the void in front of me as it approached, filtering into my very being as I gasped out.

It was… something else, that much I could say for sure.

It called itself The Commander essence, and it had a request of me. For me to take it on, permanently binding ourselves together until I died, and it along with me. In return, it would give me the power to create… and I can't believe I'm saying this…

Ship Girls. It would let me create Ship Girls for me to Command. Y'know, the very thing that made me want to join the Navy in the first place.

And all it required was for the two of us to be bind together, and that was it. No catch, no secret agenda; just a symbiosis with it, and that's all.

How was I sure of that? Well, it was quite simple. Wherever it was, it let me read intentions like no other, and no matter how hard this Commander essence tried to lie, the truth would always be revealed to me.

Not like it tried to lie in the first place, as it told the truth to anything I asked it with zero reluctance, so it made me trust it even more.

Seeing that there was, quite literally, no downside to any of this, I of course said yes to the binding, and just like that, we were now bound together until the day we both died.

As soon as that was over, however, a portal of pure light opened up in front of me and began sucking me in and I knew no more.

William's POV, four years later.

Turns out, that portal that opened up was quite literally the birth of my new life.

No, literally, it was, as I came into the world kicking and screaming as a tiny newborn baby, and boy, wasn't that something else entirely.

I learned a lot of things in the four years I have been alive once more, chief among them being the world I was reborn into.

That being the world of MHA. Though not Japan, as once more, I was born into the United States of America in the great state of Texas.

And boy, wasn't that a shock to learn. I saw some of the series in my previous life, but not the whole thing, which sucks, but oh well, I guess. I'll deal with all that fun stuff when I grow up and can actually do something about All For One, Shigaraki, and whatever other villains I'm forgetting about at the moment. Because right now?

I can't do jack-diddly-shit.

So, it turns out my new, baby body has to get used to The Commander's essence within me before I can get to use it, which took a pretty long time apparently. How long you may ask?

Well, just as long as it typically took for Quirk's of this world to usually start to manifest. That is to say, around the time I entered Pre-K was when my 'Quirk' finally awakened.

It was just any other day. My mother, whose name was Rose Collins, and had a Quirk that allowed her to sense the weather pattern for the next week with a 99.9% accuracy, dropped me off at school before making her way to her job at the local news station to deliver her weather report.

Walking in, I played my part of the four-year-old quite well if I do say so myself, as I ran around the room, playing with my fellow toddlers, and enjoying a few snacks here and there.

Yes, everything was going great, until suddenly everything wasn't.

BOOOOOM!

A loud explosion sounded out from where the Pre-K buildings' front door used to be, as a hulking man with dynamite for hands blew the doors clean off their hinges.

"Jean! Get out here now you bitch!" The crazed man yelled as he marched through the building as our teacher, Ms. Jean, paled at the voice.

"Kids! Under the tables NOW!" She yelled out to all of us as she sprinted towards the classroom door and locked it shut before she started sliding whatever she could possibly get her hands on to block the front door.

The toddlers, however, did anything but listen to their teacher, as instead of hiding like she told us too, they, understandably, began crying on the spot and running around the entire room in a craze.

Not me, however. I did exactly as Ms. Jean told me to do as I hunkered underneath a table and just hoped and prayed for the be-

BOOOOOOM!

Another loud, thunderous explosion went off, this time right at our classroom door which sent Ms. Jean flew well over ten feet back as shrapnel flew all over the room.

The sound of pained screeching was instant, as damn near all the toddlers in the room was blasted with splintered wood, metal, and whatever other materials made up the door and whatever other miscellaneous objects Ms. Jean threw in front of the door as a makeshift barrier.

It seemed that I, along with the attacker, were the only ones not affected by the shrapnel; him because they didn't blast his way, and me because I hid underneath a table.

Ms. Jean very likely saved my life, which was more than I can say for some of my fellow kids.

I blinked at one kid in particular. A girl, with brown hair and equally brown eyes, her hair done up in a basic ponytail that her mother made for her. She wore a basic t-shirt and shorts with some random animated characters embroiled on them. But all that stuff wasn't what really held my attention. Not, it was the state of her being.

She was dead, there was no doubt about that as agonal breathing was well in effect, though what really solidified that thought was the three big pieces of shrapnel lodged in her.

One piece, wood, I noted, and about the size of my forearm, blasted straight through her eye socket and straight out the back of her brain as I quite literally saw parts of her brain strewn on the floor.

The second piece, metal of some kind, was lodged in her throat as a pool of blood poured from her jugular, darkening the t-shirt and carpet red.

The last piece, another metal, was firmly implanted right where her heart should be.

Her, along with over half the other kids in the room, were dead.

All from a singular man.

Though I didn't notice it, my form began to glow blue.

My eyes darted to the form of Ms. Jean who was in very poor shape. Dozens upon dozens of pieces of metal and wood littered her form, with the biggest piece firmly lodged in her stomach.

She stared up into the air, eyes unblinking as she tried to understand just what exactly was happening.

She got her answer soon after as the form of the man hovered over her, and it was clear as day to me that he was drunk.

"Fucking bitch… not returning my calls… this *hiccup* this is what you get." He stated, slurring his speech.

I just stared at the man, unblinking, as within me, I felt two separate pools of energy unlock inside me.

Raising my hand, I let loose a scream of pure rage and fear as a blue ball of psychic energy lashed out at the man's back. The impact of the blast actually sent him into the nearby wall, though he caught himself.

Looking back, our eyes met. His writhe with fury, and mine just as angry, though the sheer terror in them was easy to see as well.

"Little shit! I'll kill you for that!" The man said as he walked to my table, feet stomping the entire time as Ms. Jean raised a hand to try and stop him, but it did nothing. Her own weak psychic Quirk too drained from her current state.

I watched as almost in slow motion as the man reached down to grab me, and that was when my second pool, The Commander's essence, unleashed itself.

A bright, rainbow light broke through the classroom, making me blink the stars out of my eyes to see what had happened.

The man's dynamite hand was literal inches from my face, threatening to blow me to kingdom come, though more interesting was the hand that held him at the wrist.

"What the he-" He didn't get to speak any further as a fist shot out… and literally popped his head clean off his body as the room was splattered in grey and brain matter.

The hand that was at the man's wrist let go, as like a puppet with its strings cut, the man's body crumpled in on itself.

Looking up, I was surprised at what, or better yet, whom, I saw.

I recognized her instantly. How could I not? She was the one that inspired me to join the Navy in the first place in my previous life.

It was the Iowa-Class Battleship, USS New Jersey.

She wore the clothes of her base skink from the game. A sheer black, sleeveless bodysuit, with white arm gloves, high-heeled boots, and a large, flowing white cape with blue accents. Atop her head, she wore a pair of bunny ears whose function I knew instinctively was used for radar, on top of looking cute as well.

She also had her rigging out as well, as the guns of the Battleship were pointed squarely at the now very dead man, all but begging him to show some signs of life so they could blast him to kingdom-come.

She was also tall, like, really tall, which made sense. She was a Battleship, and one of the biggest ever created at that. She easily stood at six feet two inches, if not a little bit taller, and that wasn't even including her bunny ears as well.

She was also quite stacked. Big breasts, a slim waist that flared out into wide, child birthing hips, thighs as thick as my head, legs longer than my entire body, and an ass so big that I could see it from the front. Yes, if I was in puberty, and if I wasn't in this situation, I would be thirsting over her like no other.

But I wasn't in puberty, and I just went through an event that most would consider 'quite traumatizing', so despite having my waifu quite literally in front of me, all I could do was just shake like a leaf as her dark blue eyes, just as dark as my own, looked down at me in kindness as she spoke.

"Rest, Commander. The indomitable Black Dragon of the Eagle Union is here to look over and protect you." She said in a surprisingly calm and collected voice, a soft smile on her lips the entire time.

With those calm, soothing words, my body did the most natural thing it could think of.

I passed out on the spot, and somehow, I didn't have a single nightmare the entire time.
