A Visit

Summary:

He needed someone to remind him that he was not alone.

Notes:

I blame my friend and the end of Dual Destinies for this

Work Text:

He didn’t feel like crying at first. I mean, what would Mia think? Just because he was stripped of his badge, it wasn’t that bad. He had to chin up, not lose hope, always look to the future.

But when he returned to his office; unemployed, alone, exhausted, humiliated and with no one on his side, he could only break into tears. Horrible, choking sobs that left his throat in pain.

Where was he to go from here? How could he be so careless as to present such obviously forged evidence? How could he fall for such a stupid trick? With each thought, his childish bawling increased. Fucking grow up, Phoenix! This is exactly why you got… why I got disbarred. Goddamn it! What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Knocking at the door, and quite loud. He didn’t want to talk to anyone, especially not any clients. Not that I would have any, hahahaha! Everyone knows about, Phoenix Wright, The Forgin’ Attorney!

“Wright. Open the door, or, I swear, I will break it down this instant.”

Shit. It just has to be him. Wasn’t he in Europe?!

“Edgeworth.” His voice cracked with every syllable. “Leave me alone.”

The door slammed open. “I didn’t know you could be so immature, Wright. And lock the door before becoming a shut-in, will you?”

He could feel the argument about to brew. The feeling felt similar to the countless times his parents would scold him. Just before they started to yell at him, he wanted to fly away, run away, stop time, do something so he wouldn’t have to hear the angry words directed at him.

“Look… whatever you’re going to say, don’t. I don’t want to hear it.” He sighed, looking out the window, avoiding the prosecutor’s cold gaze.

“I’m disappointed in you. Wasn’t it you who said that you should fight to the bitter the end? And have you forgotten about Mia’s legacy? How could you just leave everything because of one incident?”

Phoenix felt the anger brewing inside of him. He tried not to say anything, but he could not control his temper. He stood up, face-to-face with his best friend, and shouted:

“Fuck you, Edgeworth! I would’ve fought! But it was their decision, and it’s final. They stripped me of my badge, and I can’t do anything about it! So, how about you go back to your fancy prosecutor’s office, and leave me alone?! I didn’t want you involved and I still don’t. Forget you even heard anything.”

The other rose his voice in rebuttal. “What is Maya going to think about this? And this isn’t the end. You can clear your name if you try, if you investigate and find evidence of your innocence--”

“What if I’m not? What if I’m not innocent?! You don’t know a damn shit about what happened!” God, he’s such a dick! He should just leave me alone and mind his damn business!

“I know you’re innocent. You wouldn’t have done such a foolish thing like--”

“But I did. And that’s all that matters. I don’t deserve to be a lawyer, and you know--”

Edgeworth grabbed his collar and kissed him. He could feel his cheeks burn red. …did he just kiss me?

“What was that for?!” He tried to hide the smile he could feel creeping on his face.

“Just a reminder that I’m on your side. I know you didn’t present it on purpose. But, if we want to prove it, we need to work together.”

“You could’ve just said that, you know.” He remarked, scoffing.

“I suppose I could have. But I know you liked it, Wright.”

“I can’t keep any secrets from you, can I?”

Edgeworth laughed, and under his breath said: “It would help if you didn’t have such obvious crushes…”
