Work Text:

Scar didn't believe it at first.

Because it didn't make sense, like, yeah, sure, the world will end soon because the moon will hit the world of Hermitcraft. Like, very soon. Alright, buddy. It sounded ridiculous even saying it out loud!

"The world will end soon," he repeated to himself, finding the pronunciation of the words off, so he tried again: "The world will end—"

"Scar!" Grian called. "This is serious!"

"I know, but— like— it's weird! Unexpected!" He explained.

"It's okay, I get that," he breathed out. "Mumbo and Impulse were building a rocket so we can get out of here."

"Wh— a rocket?" A nod from the other. "Where will we even land?!"

"I don't know! Somewhere far away from here!"

Scar couldn't help but grin at the absurdity of it all. "Okay. Yeah. Sure, makes sense," he rolled his eyes. "Fine, we're getting out of here. What about—"

"The others?"

"Yeah, like, from out of Boatem," he clarified.

"They won't fit in our rocket, Scar. Besides, I've heard Keralis was building their own," he shrugged. "For everyone else, I mean."

"So a pretty big one, huh?" He commented casually, as if they weren't just talking about the end of the world.

"Scar—" Grian was about to scold him, about how serious the situation was, but the other was quicker.

"Look, I'm sorry! I'm just— just nervous, okay!" He tried to justify his attitude. "The end of the world and all we know doesn't happen every day, so I got no clue of how to react!"

"…I get it, Scar," he sighed. "I'll go check on our rocket, be right back."

With that, he was out of Scar's living room.

…Was Grian mad at Scar? He didn't know how to tell, but by his tone, it seemed possible.

He didn't want to mess this up; he had something to tell him before— before all that. He looked at his table, where a small flower bouquet laid. Grian didn't pay any attention to it as he told him the news. It was cliché, sure, but it got the message across. And Scar knew how much he liked flowers.

Maybe he did notice, but chose to not say anything?

Maybe he thought Scar was a weirdo. Who knows?

Thoughts of self-deprecation filled his head as he — mentally — paced around the room. He couldn't leave his wheelchair for too long, after all.

Eh, it was fine. He could get over being rejected by his best friend.
