Loki sighs as he enters the living room and sees little specks of cookie crumbs scattered on the floor, the very floor Sylvie spent an hour deep cleaning before she left for girls night with Valkyrie at the pub.
"Thor, what did I say about leaving crumbs everywhere? Sylvie is going to murder you if she sees a trail of cookie pieces on her freshly clean floor again!" Loki yells to his brother as he conjures a broom to sweep Thor's crumbs up.
"Sorry brother, I didn't realize I left any crumbs behind!"
"You always leave crumbs behind," Loki finishes sweeping the crumbs into the dustpan and walks to the trash can in the kitchen to throw them away. "You're lucky Sylvie isn't here to kick your ass. The next time she catches you she'll ban you from entering our home."
Thor enters the kitchen and leans against the kitchen counter. "I do not want to piss that woman off. I still can't wrap my head around her being a variant of you, I never worried about you besting me in a fight."
Loki flicks his hand and the broom disappears. "What? You didn't always win our fights, I got the best of you a handful of times."
Thor lets out a thunderous laugh. "Oh Lokes, lets face it, you aren't nearly as terrifying as your better half."
As much as he'd like to deny that, Loki knows Thor is right. With just a single look, Sylvie has scared off many potential enemies and unwanted visitors. That's his girl.
Before he can respond to his brother, Loki is interrupted by the sound of his cellphone ringing. A few months after Loki and Sylvie settled in New Asgard, Valkyrie suggested they get cellphones as a means of communication between them and their friends. Sylvie quickly learned all the basics and helped Loki set his up. They had all of their friend's numbers saved and could call them up at a moment's notice in case of an attack or just to chat about their day.
Loki grabs his phone from the kitchen counter and sees Valkyrie's name on the screen. Thinking something may be wrong with Sylvie, he immediately hits accept and brings it up to his ear.
"Valkyrie, is everything okay? What's wrong?"
"Hey, Loki. Everything is fine, but you should probably come down here and get your girl. She's had a bit too much to drink."
Loki notices that Valkyrie sounds like she also had too much to drink, but he's too worried about Sylvie to comment on that at the moment.
"Has she done anything bad? Started a fight? Bet someone she could out-drink them?"
"Nothing crazy, she's currently in the midst of an arm wrestling tournament that she started," Valkyrie lowers her voice before speaking again. "I think she may be cheating with magic a bit."
Loki can't help but chuckle at that. Although most of the citizens of New Asgard know Loki and Sylvie are Gods, there were a fair amount of tourists around on any given day. The kind that aren't use to seeing people do real magic. He can only imagine what would happen if a poor unsuspecting mortal caught sight of Sylvie using magic.
"Anyway, I think you should come and bring her home before she starts a brawl or whatever. You know she'll listen to you when you tell her to stop drinking."
Loki quirks an eyebrow at Thor who gives him a look that asks 'what?'
"Thor and I will be right there. Don't let Sylvie out of your sight until we arrive."
"I'll try, she is quite the sneaky - oh, she almost body slammed this guy she beat. Yeah, go Sylvie! See you soon, Loki!" The line goes dead as Valkyrie ends the call.
Loki moves the phone from his ear, placing it into the back pocket of his trousers. "It seems my other half may be a bit full of drink at the moment. Valkyrie says I should go to the pub and bring her home."
"Can Sylvie not hold her liquor?" Thor asks as he follows Loki out of the kitchen towards the front door.
"Usually, unless she's only had Asgardian ale. I suspect she partook in a drinking contest this evening. My Sylvie can be very competitive," Loki puts on his jacket while swiping his house keys off the table. "Valkyrie sounded like she had herself too much to drink as well. We should get her out, too."
Thor nods and claps Loki on the back. "Another brother adventure! Off to drag two strong women who could beat us to pulp out of a bar!"
The brothers make their way out of the house and into the cool night, heading in the direction of town where the pub is. Loki and Sylvie's house sits just outside of the town, far enough from the town center for them to have some privacy. When they arrived in New Asgard, Sylvie wasn't comfortable enough to reside in the town near the others, so Valkyrie offered them the vacant house that sits just on the hill overlooking everything. Close enough to be able to walk to town when they needed to.
Once they reach the pub, Thor goes through the door first to look for Valkyrie. Loki follows behind and searches for Sylvie amongst the crowd of people. Tourists and residents alike are spread out in the building, a sea of bodies holding mugs and glasses of various alcohol.
"LOKI! I found Val!" Loki hears his brother's loud roar over the chatter and music with ease. He looks toward the bar to see Thor and Valkyrie leaning against it. He makes his way towards them, still keeping an eye out for his love.
"If you're looking for your girlfriend, she's at the booth by the pool table. She's in the final matchup for the arm wrestling…thing." Valkyrie slurs. She definitely needs to be cut off.
"I'll stay with Val while you go grab your lady, brother."
Loki gives Thor a nod and sets off for the booth where Sylvie is located. As he gets closer to the table, Loki smiles as his eyes land on the top of his beloved's blond curls sitting on one side of the booth. Once the table is in clear view, he notices that Sif is sitting opposite of her, her good elbow resting on the table with her one hand raised. Sylvie mimics the move and rests her hand in Sif's.
"Sif is Sylvie's final competitor? Oh, this I have to see." Loki says to himself. Sure Sif only has one hand now, but she's still a strong warrior and Sylvie won't go easy on her.
He gets closer but stays out of Sylvie's view so he can go undetected. Korg stands in front of the booth and addresses the small crowd around him.
"Ladies and gents, here we have Lady Sif versus Lady Sylvie in the final round of tonight's arm-wrestling tournament. Which of these two lovely warriors will be undefeated? We'll find out in 3, 2, 1. GO!"
Sylvie and Sif start off well, neither one faltering easily. Loki watches for any sort of magical assistance from Sylvie but isn't surprised to not find any. Sif knows who Sylvie truly is, so she'd be able to easily tell magic was involved. The two of them have gotten along well in the past few months and have become frequent sparing partners. Loki figured they would get along and would both enjoy having another female around to train with.
After a few seconds, Sif's arm starts to descend back towards the table, Sylvie getting the upper hand with her goddess strength. Sif doesn't go down without a fight and tries to push back against her. Loki can see that Sylvie is also starting to lose steam, likely due to the amount of Asgardian ale she's consumed. It's not enough to offer Sif a comeback opportunity though as one final push sends her hand to the table and Korg declares Sylvie the winner.
"Lady Sylvie is victorious! Give it up for Sylvie, everyone!"
There are a few cheers and claps as someone hands Sylvie a mug of ale. She takes it and chugs it back in big gulps. Once it's empty, she raises the cup in the air and slams it down on the floor, glass breaking into little pieces while yelling, "Another!"
Loki can't help but to laugh at her antics. She saw him do that on that fateful day on the train in Lamentis, but he hasn't seen her do it until tonight, even with her being surrounded by other Asgardians frequently. He decides right then that she doesn't need any more alcohol.
As he approaches the table, he hears Sif sloppily congratulate Sylvie.
"Congratulations, Sylvie. If I had to lose, I'm glad it was to you."
"Aw, thank you, Sif! You put up a good fight tonight. I was prepared to lose to you," she lowers her voice so only Sif can hear her next words. "I may have used some magic on all the other competitors, but not on you!"
Sif wraps her arm around Sylvie's shoulder. "Aw, Sylvie, that's so nice of you! I love you!"
"I love you, too! I'm so glad to have another woman to hang around with!" Sylvie moves to pull Sif into a hug.
Not wanting to interrupt the drunken love fest, Loki stops just before them to let them hug it out. Sif may be an ex-fling of his, but he's glad she's welcomed his love into her life. Sylvie needed more female friends in her life, and Sif and Valkyrie are just the two for the job. It warms his heart to see her interact with people who will be sticking around for more than just a few hours.
He watches as Sylvie breaks from the hug and her eyes land on his face. Her lips break out into a bright smile and she wraps her arms around Loki's shoulders bringing him into a bone crushing hug.
"Loki, you're here! I've missed you!" She gives him a big squeeze and pulls back a little bit. "I started an arm wrestling tournament and I won! Sif and I were in the finals. She fought hard and I was totally prepared for her to kick my ass. Wait, why are you here?"
Loki gives her a quick kiss on her forehead and squeezes her arms. "Valkyrie called and said I should come bring you home. I've heard you're a bit full this evening."
Sylvie frowns at him and looks at the table full of empty mugs. "I didn't have that much to drink. At least, I don't think I have?" She looks over at Sif for clarification. "Have I, Sif?"
"I think we would know if we were drunk, Loki!" Sif says as she stumbles and has to grab on to the edge of the table to steady herself.
Loki sighs and gestures to the table of empty glasses. "That seems like a lot to me. I also saw you drink a mug of ale and smash it to pieces on the ground just a few minutes ago."
"Okay, maybe I am a bit full as you like to call it," Sylvie lets out a long sigh. "Let me just go to the girls room and then you can take me home."
Loki gives her a quick peck on the lips and removes his arms from around her. "I'll be at the bar with Thor and Valkyrie. Come find me when you're done."
Sylvie nods and pulls Sif along with her towards the bathroom. "Sif has to come with me to the bathroom, it's a girl thing!"
Loki chuckles and shakes his head as he watches them disappear toward the bathrooms. He walks back to the bar to see Thor and Valkyrie doing shots of some kind of alcohol.
"What in the nine realms is this, Thor? I told you she doesn't need more to drink, not to do shots with her!"
"I wanted to have a bit of fun, Lokes! It was only three shots."
"Yeah, relax, Loki. I'm done now!"
Thor turns to Loki. "Did you find Sylvie?"
"Yes, her and Sif were arm wrestling. Sylvie was declared the winner, no magic involved. They're in the bathroom and will be here as soon as they're done."
"Sif is here? Must have been some ladies night!"
Suddenly, microphone feedback sends the entire pub into silence. A few taps can be heard and a female voice saying "Is this thing on?" comes through.
A female voice Loki knows very well.
Sylvie's voice.
Oh no.
Confirming his suspicions, Sylvie's voice echoes heard throughout the whole room. "Hey, New Asgard! I want to dedicate this song to our very own God of Mischief and my lover, Loki!" She points over to the bar from where she's standing on the karaoke stage.
He feels a hard punch on his back from Thor. "That's you, brother! Can Sylvie sing?"
Loki has heard Sylvie sing when she listens to her records in the comfort of their own home and he thinks it's one of the most glorious sounds he's ever heard. It's up there with her voice, her laugh, and the noises she makes when they're getting intimate. She has never sang in front of anyone else though, and this is how he knows she is in fact drunk.
"She can, but this is the first time she's sang in public."
"I wonder what song she's dedicating to you!"
Loki is almost too afraid to find out.
The music starts as Sylvie situates herself on the stage and prepares to sing her heart out. Loki tries to identify the song but can't quite make it out yet. She has the crowd captivated as she starts to sing the lyrics. He notices some people singing along with her and he can't place how she knows it, let alone others. The song does have a catchy pop sound to it, one that could get stuck in your head for days on end.
Loki can't help but watch as Sylvie starts moving around the stage as she sings about superstitions and making your own luck. Her singing voice is a bit rough due to the amount of ale she's had, but it's still pleasant and in tune. Even if she wasn't singing well, the drunk patrons wouldn't even bat an eye.
It seems that the original singer is trying to convey that they have been unlucky in love until the right person came into their life and now they don't need to knock on wood. Loki could say that's very true for the both of them. They weren't unlucky in love, they just didn't think it was worth all the hassle. Until that day they locked eyes in Roxxcart, Loki knew their lives were going to change for the better.
Loki feels a tap on his shoulder and turns to see Valkyrie standing next to him.
"Do you recognize what song this is?"
Loki shakes his head, it sounds a bit familiar to him but he can't think of the title or who sings it. Valkyrie just gives him a mischievous smile and turns her attention back on Sylvie. He would ask her why she looked at him like that but instead he goes back to watching his love command the stage.
"Redwood tree, it ain't hard to see. His love was the key that opened my thighs." Sylvie sings out and that's when Loki realizes he has heard this song before. She recently got interested in a popular blonde singer named Taylor and acquired some of her records from a music shop on their recent visit to New York City. This particular song has been stuck in Sylvie's head for a few days and she has been singing it around the house lately. She dedicated this song to him because of the implied innuendo of…
"Girls, I don't need to catch the bouquet to know a hard rock is on the way. The curse on me was broken by your magic wand."
Oh Norns, she's singing a song about a dick to him. In front of his brother, their friends, and a bunch of strangers. Wonderful, just grand. Regardless, he's glad Sylvie is having fun while singing a song she's dedicating to him and his manhood. He can't wait to tell her about this in the morning when she sobers up.
"New heights of manhood, I ain't gotta knock on wood." Sylvie gives the crowd a big wink.
"Damn Loki, sounds like you're well endowed if she's singing this song to you." Valkyrie jokes and Thor places his arm around Loki's shoulder.
"Oh Lokes, Sylvie dedicating a raunchy Taylor Swift song to you is of highest honor!"
Loki just wishes she would have waited to serenade him with this song in their home, just the two of them, preferably right before they made love. Now all of New Asgard will be talking about him and his wood.
"Forgive me, it sounds cocky. He ah-matized me and opened my eyes."
"Please, your cock wasn't that impressive." Of course Sif had to come and give her two cents. Rude.
The song finally ends, the patrons clapping, whistling, and hollering. He catches some of them giving him knowing looks and eyeing his manhood.
"Thank you, New Asgard! I'm gonna go knock on some wood, if you know what I mean!" Sylvie winks and sets the mic down as people laugh and slow down their cheers.
Loki turns toward the bar to order a drink. "Asgardian ale, please."
"You got it, Redwood tree." Loki groans as the bartender pours ale into a mug and gives it to him. He chugs the glass in two big gulps just as Sylvie comes and wraps her arms around him from behind.
"Looooki, did you enjoy my serenading? It's like that time on Lamentis when you were very full and sang that song to me! Except this time I didn't get us kicked out of a moving train like an idiot and stranded us on a doomed planet!"
Loki sets the mug down and places his hands on top of Sylvie's where they rest on his stomach.
"Yes, my love, I enjoyed it very much. Much better than the song I sang to you that night."
Sylvie lets out a giggle and squeezes him closer to her to whisper in his ear. "You have a very nice piece of wood that I'd very much like to knock on right now. Take me home now, yeah?"
Loki feels all the blood rushing to his 'wood' and a jolt of arousal warming low in his belly at her words. With a hasty goodbye to his brother and friends, he grabs hold of a giggling Sylvie's hand and all but drags her out the door and towards their house.
He's going to show her just what his 'magic wand' can do to her body.
There's going to be a lot of knocking on wood tonight.
