Work Text:
It was over. Her supposed “best day” was over. The chairs were knocked over, cake forgotten on the ground, dressed ripped and stained red. And most importantly, Tomate, her groom, was gone–for now at least. Katie hadn't seen where they took him, and she didn't care for it anymore. She was left alone and discarded at the scene of the crime, With tears silently dripping down her face, eyesight blurring. Sitting alone in the church, in an eerie silence. She didn't notice the heavy sound of footsteps, nor the added body heat as someone sat next to her. She only noticed when she heard the oh so familiar voice ask her a question,
“Are you okay?”
Was she okay? How could she be okay at a time like this? Katie knew damn well that the man next to her, Ash, or supreme leader, had never approved of her relationship. The way he commanded a group of people to purposely attack the love of her life, on her special day. And now she was just supposed to talk to him? She turned to face the other direction, even the sound of his voice was too much. He reached out to touch her shoulder, Katie flinched at the contact, whacking the hand away.
“Dont touch me.” her voice rough and dripping with emotion.
Katies fists furiously wiped at her eyes, pushing her tears away. Anger flooded her senses. How dare he try and act all kind after crashing her wedding.
“Katie. I-..It had to be done. They can't be trusted! They’re feds!” Ash yelled, although unintentionally. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Look, you deserved better-”
Katie stood up before he could finish. She was done hearing this. She did care if she "deserved better”, as Ash had stated multiple times before, she was comfortable with who she was with. She loved him. Katie knew Ash hated the Feds, but she had hoped he would put his differences aside just for one day. Just to let her get her happy ending. But no. Clearly, his hatred mattered more than her.
“I don't want better! Why can't you just understand that?” She sobbed. Walking away from him, making her way to the exit. She needed a shower and a long nap, (and to get out of the damn church).
“Katie-Wait!” He called out, rising to his feet in a hurry.
Katie felt his hands go over her shoulders, stopping her in her tracks. She didn't fight it, just accepted her fate.
“What? What could you possibly want from me?” Tears threatened to leak out of her eyes again, she took a deep breath to keep them away.
“I’m-I’m sorry.” He stuttered, like this was the first time those words had left his mouth. “I don't regret my decision, but maybe I should have chosen a different day.” He huffed out.
“Maybe? Maybe?” She huffed, laughing at the obscurity of his “apology”. “Yeah! Maybe you should have chosen a different day! Or maybe you shouldn’t have done it at all!” She put her hands in her hair. “Do you ever think about anyone other than yourself? I thought you were starting to like and actually respect me, but maybe I thought wrong.” Her voice cracked as her tears spilled yet again.
“I do respect you!” he argued back, “This has nothing to do with you! It's to do with the damn feds!” He yelled. The tension around them was thick and heated.
“HOW IS THIS NOT ABOUT ME?!” Katie cried, her tears falling faster and more violently. “This is my day! MY wedding!” she fell to her knees, her legs hitting the wooden ground with a thump, she could tell it would leave a bruise. “Just-Just leave me alone.”
“But-”
“Leave! Please!” her strained voice called out.
Kaite didn't notice the mumbled apology given as he teleported away. She was left all alone on the day where she was supposed to feel loved. But now, her love was gone, her Tomate was gone. Her throat hurt from the crying and yelling. She calmed down rather quickly, and regained at least some of her composer. Katie wiped her eyes, stood up, and took one last look at her ruined wedding before starting her venture home.
Katie swiftly left the church, using the waystone to teleport to “Schlatt & co”, where she walked over to the area near Schlatt’s dock.
Katied crouched down and looked at the water, her reflection looking back at her. Her eye had turned purple from the accidental punch from when she tried to stop the mob from attacking her man. The top of her dress bloodied, along with the dried blood on her face. Her bloodshot eyes looking back at her, the usual glasses she wears lost from all the chaos.
Katie stood up, making her way to her home (or bunker), she quickly climbed down the ladder, searching through her chests, trying to find her pajamas. Once found, she climbed back up and made her way to the river. She looked around before jumping in, using the not so clean water as her shower. It was all she had, as Schlatt had returned home and she couldn’t afford to be caught, especially not now.
She washed all the blood off her before climbing out the freezing cold water. It helped ground her, before the water also started to become numbing. She climbed down into her home, tearing the dress off her as she changed into her clean and warm pajamas. The bed was calling Katie's name, it looked soft and warm. She dragged herself into the bed and under the covers, and then came the fireworks. Tears began dripping down her cheeks for the third time today. She had expected to cry today, but she expected them to be tears of joy, oblivious to what her so-called “friends” had been planning. Her cries slowly stopped as her breathing evened out, and she fell deeply into a peaceful slumber.
