Chapter Text

~Wednesday~

I’m going to find her, Wednesday thought as the side car next to Fester hit a particularly harsh jolt.

There was no other outcome Wednesday would accept. Not when it came to Enid. Her pack. Her best friend.

“Hold on, this is gonna get a little bumpy,” Fester called over to her. Wednesday didn’t blink as the puny impact of the car’s wheels against a small hill reminded her of how overdramatic Fester was.

Wednesday was already thinking of what she could say to Enid. She wasn’t normally one to think ahead about silly things like normal conversation. But there was nothing normal about a conversation where someone transformed from an alpha werewolf, after being hunted for weeks by other werewolves, back to their human form.

Enid would need someone to support her. Wednesday’s least favorite pastime. And one she didn’t partake in lightly.

In fact, she’d rather spend her time tearing murderers apart limb by limb. Watching as the weakness of their broken anatomy was displayed in front of her, reminding her why humans were among her favorite toys.

They were on their way to Paris now. Capri told them about a secret base where alpha werewolves got taken. More than taken…imprisoned. Wednesday hated to imagine what that might look like for Enid.

Wednesday closed her eyes as she saw Agnes glancing at her from the grave. “It was the only way to save you.”

Then Enid’s pink and blue tinted hair fanning out from her werewolf form, the fear in her eyes. Wednesday felt a stray tear escape her eye. Uncle Fester didn’t notice. Good.

Wednesday remembered the shock as Enid bolted through the woods. Normally things that awful excited her. But this was unfamiliar. Highly unpleasant.

She adjusted her goggles as they dropped too low. Until finally, they veered off the dirt track and onto the airport road.

“I won’t be there with you the whole time,” Uncle Fester warned. “I’ve got my own adventure with a woman named Debbie Jellinsky. Wish me luck.”

“Good luck,” Wednesday said flatly. The truth was she couldn’t have cared less about his escapades to woo a woman Wednesday found insufferable.

~Wednesday~

Wednesday was stopped yet again by another halfwit at the metal detector. No knives, guns, spiked nun chucks…no weapons of any kind allowed. How was she supposed to fend off a group of mercenaries holding Enid hostage and make them bleed until the late night hours?

She’d have to go shopping again once she arrived in Paris. City of love? More like City of Cruel Displays of Physical Affection.

The only person allowed that close to Wednesday was Enid. This time hopefully not close enough to actually smell like candy and flowers.

When they finally let her through, Wednesday made her way to one of the hard plastic seats. Deliciously uncomfortable. She relished the looks of pain from everyone else waiting for their own ride. Thing took one of the empty seats beside her, reading one of the magazines on the table next to him.

Then somebody bumped Wednesday’s shoulder as they sat beside her and she was instantly reminded of her hug with Enid. Wednesday glared over at them and tried to focus her mind on the boring list of flights and their current status, but she was back there again.

Enid had been shaking in her arms, just slight enough for Wednesday to feel it too. But Wednesday felt her body pulled tight to Enid’s. Warm spread against the chilly night air. Everyone in the crowd had disappeared at that moment, and Wednesday actually wondered if she could stay in that moment forever.

The person bumped her again and this time she had his arm in a locked hold as he cried out, “Ow, what the—”

“Sit somewhere else,” Wednesday said darkly.

“Okay…jeez,” the teen boy said, nearly tripping over his feet as he scrambled away.

A few seats down was a baby crying loudly. And two inept parents frantically tried to stop it. They were lucky Wednesday didn’t step in to help.

Wednesday crossed her arms, making sure anyone who passed that even thought of being near her would suffer worse than a sore wrist.

Finally, it was time for her to go. As they filed onto the plane, Wednesday pushed past the slow pedestrians until she reached her seat. Then she pulled out a book. Werewolves Through The Ages.

Apparently, alpha werewolves were a thing since practically the stone age. Wednesday grimaced as she passed picture after picture of the wolves tearing into each other’s flesh, imagining the red mixing with pink and blue fur, chunks of flesh missing, bits of bone showing through.

The Enid Wednesday was about to find, wasn’t going to be the same one who sang tone deaf to the most blood curdling music ever to exist.

“Are you alright, Miss?” A flight attendant asked suddenly.

“The sight of your cheerful smile makes me physically ill,” Wednesday said. “I imagine myself jamming several tiny scissors into your eyes and watching as you cry out in pain.”

The woman pushed her long blonde hair from her face, her smile sinking into itself as her face turned sickly pale. “Umm…enjoy your flight.”

Then she walked over to another attendant and they were both glancing at her for a moment, before walking away.

People needed to stop interrupting her. Time was crucial, and fleeting. Wednesday turned page after page, until finally she came to the golden answer. The one thing that gave her hope.

Being an alpha wasn’t always permanent. Capri had been wrong.

She might actually see the smile Enid always made when she was bouncing around campus on her heels.

The way to reverse it all was to reach them emotionally. Enid was as emotional as they came, even Wednesday had figured out some of the inner workings of her mind. But that girl was still very much a mystery.

Even worse was the impact it had on the returned human. Nightmares that would haunt them until their final day. A series of people filled the next pages, most bearing physical scars, pressing their hands to their heads with wide, confused eyes. Most of them were huddled in a corner, like they were still stuck in that werewolf state despite being made flesh again.

Would the Enid she got back be the same one who’d spent all those nights with her in the dorms? Who’d gone on random shopping trips resembling the likes of a true girl pop psychopath.

Would she be the same Enid who made Wednesday feel things far too inconvenient for her own good?

The clouds filtered past as Wednesday closed her book. Those questions would have answers soon enough. Right now she had one priority. Finding Enid and putting her back together again.
