Every wolf has their limits

Summary:

Enid’s plan of ignoring her teeny tiny crush on her roommate and best friend, Wednesday Addams, is going splendidly. Truly. Nobody is even suspecting a single thing. She is sure, that she can easily keep this up forever - or until her little crush finally subsides.

Unfortunately, Enid has not discussed this with her inner wolf. And when Enid keeps pretending, instead of actually doing something about her feelings, her wolf has had enough. It’s time to take this matter into her hands.

Work Text:

We want her back.”

Enid drops the pen, which has just been in her hand and her head snaps up.

“What the heck,” she whispers, before turning in her chair, scanning the room. But nobody is there. Wednesday and Thing are both gone doing who knows what, while Enid is using the time before dinner to work on some of her homework assignments. But she swears she just heard somebody speaking. She strains her ears, trying to pick up on any sounds. With her werewolf hearing she can even hear heartbeats and breathing, if she concentrates hard on it, which non-wolves could never.

But she hears nothing. Nada. Nothing out of the ordinary, at least. Slowly, Enid turns back and picks up her pen again, to resume writing.

We want to be with her right now.”

“What the fuck is going on?” Enid exclaims, jumping out of her seat and looking around the room with large eyes. She even has her hands extended in front of her, as if to brace herself for a fight, in case she’ll get attacked any moment.

Nothing is going on. We just miss her.”

Despite its impossibility, Enid’s eyes grow even wider and a little whimper escapes her. What the actual fuck is happening?

“Hello?” She whispers, her voice dripping with fear.

No need for greeting. More need for going to see her. Preferably now, please.

“Um, who are you?” Enid squeaks, her voice as high as it can go. She keeps scanning the room from side to side, trying to figure out where the sounds are coming from. Oddly enough, it feels…as if they come…as if they come…

Yep, it’s me. Your wolf. Hello, how are you and all that crap. But we have more pressing matters to discuss and do, than waste our time with formal introductions.

Enid’s eyes lift upwards, as if she’s hoping to look into her own brain. How is this even possible? Is somebody trying to play a trick on her? Is Wednesday hiding somewhere?

No, obviously she’s not. Which is the main problem actually. We want to be close to her again. Now.”

Enid thinks, her body has gone into full shock mode. Everything tingles and feels frozen. Is this actually happening? Sure, she has heard stories about wolves actually talking to their human counterparts, but she honestly always thought they were just that - stories.

Sigh. “Yes, yes, I know you didn’t believe in it. But guess what, you successfully managed to force me to speak up.”

“Um, could you get out of my thoughts, please?” Enid says, not liking that wolf of hers reading every thought entering her mind at all. It is creepy. And honestly, also a little rude. Hello? Privacy? That’s still a thing, right?

“It is, but due to your inability to take matters into your own hands, you practically forced me to end my silence. I do have my limits, you know.”

“What the fuck are you even talking about?” Enid asks, exasperated, and throwing her hands up. She hates that she’s talking to somebody she can’t even see. It’s so weird.

You. I’m talking about YOU.

Enid’s face shifts into a mix of a frown and gape. “Uh, care to explain? I still have no idea what you are talking about.”

I’m talking about you needing to go and find HER.”

“Who’s her?” But the moment she voices the question, she has the sinking feeling of knowing exactly who her wolf is talking about. No. No, no, no, no. Please no. God, that would be-

Just what you need.” The wolf cuts her thoughts off.

Enid gasps as a wave of horror crashes straight into her. Oh fuck. If this is truly what she thinks it is, she is truly and completely fucked.

No need to spiral. Drama has never looked good on you, dear. We just want to be with her.

Maybe she could-

Nope. Don’t even try to deny it. We both know that we want her. Need her. Preferably very, very close to us. All the time.”

Enid’s heart beats fast, as she’s trying to think of a way to get out of this. She recalls having read about wolves getting involved in matters of personal business of their humans. From what she remembers, they can be quite…persuasive. Enid shudders at the mere thought of what this could entail. Especially if she’s correct about what this is about.

Hell no. No way. She is not going to let this stupid wolf inside her head dictate her actions. Nu-uh.

Okay, rude,” the wolf throws in, but Enid simply ignores her. She is not going to let her wolf risk everything. She is not going to let her ruin what she has with Wednesday, just because she wishes for something more. Something more, which is never going to happen, because Wednesday has been incredibly adamant about not wanting anything to do with love or relationships.

So what if Enid has this little, tiny, almost non-existent crush on her? She has been dealing with it just fine.

Her wolf snorts in her head. “Right.” Again, Enid just ignores her.

She has successfully pushed her feelings for her best friend down and only suffers a teensy, little bit because of it. But it’s fine. Totally, unquestionably fine.

Because Enid would rather drown in her pining and longing to get close to her girl - correction, the girl - than to ever risk losing Wednesday all together, by admitting her feelings, which - again - are definitely not requited. No way in hell is she ever going to do that.

We’ll see about that.

Maybe they will just keep living together as best friends - spinsters, in the traditional form. Which is totally fine. As long as Enid has Wednesday in her life, everything will be okay.

It’s most definitely NOT fine,” her wolf says, growing more agitated now. Enid inhales deeply and stands up taller, lifting her chin with it. Right, she is not going to let some wolf in her head tell her what to do. She will simply ignore her.

This is not how it works and you know it. We want her. With us. All the time.”

Pretending she doesn’t hear anything, Enid sits back down at her desk and continues working on her homework. When ten minutes later, she has not heard as much as a whimper from her wolf, Enid thinks, that maybe this is actually working.

We want to touch her.

The sudden reappearance of her wolf’s voice startles Enid so much, that she drops the fork she had in her hand. Wednesday looks at her with a frown.

“What's wrong?”

“Nothing,” Enid forces out quickly, her voice high-pitched. She quickly grabs the fork again and picks up some food with it, pretending that everything is totally alright.

We want to touch her. Now,” the wolf announces, her voice growing stronger.

Enid presses her lips together hard. Has Wednesday always been sitting this close to her or has she only now started to notice how their bodies keep touching randomly with certain movements? There - that must have been Wednesday’s knee against hers.

In an instant, her entire body heats up drastically and her breathing becomes harder.

What the actual fuck.

Told you. Place your hand on her thigh.”

“No,” Enid squeaks before she can stop herself, even jumping up slightly.

And just like that, she feels everyone’s eyes on her. Enid gulps, looking at the confused faces of her friends.

“You okay over there?” Yoko asks form the other end of the table, eyeing her in suspicion.

“Yeah, um, everything’s…peachy,” Enid replies, her voice sounding strangled. God, she is going to kill her wolf.

No you are not. And you know what else you are not doing? Touching her yet. So please do us both a favor and get the fuck on with it.

When suddenly Enid’s right hand, which is closest to Wednesday, starts to tingle uncontrollably and even starts twitching, Enid realizes, that it’s high-time to abandon this ship. She needs to get the hell away from here, before she does something she cannot undo.

She jumps up from her seat. And as if this entire situation wasn’t bad enough already, a damn whimper leaves her throat the moment she distances herself from Wednesday through this action.

“Enid, are you alright?” Wednesday says immediately, staring at her in high alert. Enid has hardly ever seen Wednesday this concerned, which does not help the situation. At all.

“I need to go,” she squeaks, before running out of the cafeteria, ignoring Wednesday calling out her name.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck, was that close.

Looking back, Enid should have known, that it was only a matter of time, before Wednesday would return to their dorm. At least, she was able to enjoy ten whole minutes of beautiful solitude in here, with no stupid wolf in her head and no danger of accidentally making a move on her unsuspecting best friend.

Enid is laying on her bed, her face sunken into her pillow, when she hears the door opening. She pushes herself up quickly, looking over her shoulder to see who is entering. She should not feel such strong flutters and so much relief at seeing Wednesday again. She should not.

“I brought you some tea,” Wednesday explains, looking very serious. God, why does she always look this adorable, when she is in that particular mood? Like, the way her eyes are just a little bit smaller and her nose scrunches - wait, stop it.

No, please, keep going,” her wolf decides to join the conversation again, sounding way too amused for Enid’s liking.

“Thanks,” Enid says, sitting up quickly. “But that wasn’t necessary.”

Along with a steaming cup of tea, there is also Enid’s favorite chocolate bar in Wednesday’s hands. Okay, and there goes her poor little heart as it melts completely at the sight. How come Wednesday is always so sweet and thoughtful? Pride immediately enters her chest too, when she thinks about the fact, that she’s the only person walking on this earth to see this side of Wednesday. The only person who gets to be cared for by her like this.

Ours.”

Enid jerks back slightly at realizing, how forceful and possessive her wolf just sounded. Okay, chill out, please.

I would, if you’d finally do something about this. WE. WANT. HER.”

“You appear to not be your usual self. Are you feeling sick?” Wednesday asks, her eyes narrowed as she scans Enid for any sign of discomfort. And what’s even worse is, that Wednesday has decided to actually sit down on Enid’s bed. Which doesn’t help. Doesn’t help at all.

Yes it does. Gives us better access to kiss her.”

STOP IT.

“Yeah. I actually am. Very sick,” Enid pretends to cough. Her move backfires though, as Wednesday immediately leans closer and presses her god damn hand against Enid’s forehead, which makes the latter feel so dizzy, she might just collapse any moment.

“Your body temperature seems to be higher than normal,” Wednesday mumbles. Yeah, no shit. She’s been burning up with…desire, since dinner.

“Oh, you should definitely head back to your side,” Enid rushes out. Wednesday slowly pulls her hand back.

“Why?”

“So I don’t get you sick as well.”

“Us Addamses are immune to all common illnesses.”

“Yeah, b-but it, I mean, it - it might just,” Enid stumbles over her words, trying to come up with something that would keep Wednesday at a distance. “I think I have the…wolf…speckled…heart…sickness.”

At this, Wednesday’s eyebrows arch highly and her head tilts forward slightly. “Wolf speckled heart sickness?”

God, she doesn’t believe her. Probably no surprise, it’s a stupid name she came up with on the spot. Imagination has never been her strong suit.

“Yeah, it - it’s very dangerous,” Enid says, trying to sound deeply affected by the threat of it. “Fatal even, to non-wolves. So you should really go.”

At first, Wednesday doesn’t move an inch, only keeps staring at her with that intense look she has perfected so well. God, those eyes. Enid will never get enough of them. Especially when they look so full of passion and fire like they do now. And the freckles. God the freckles.

“I will do you the favor and retreat to my half of the room, so you don’t need to worry. But I’m not leaving this dorm until you feel better, understood?”

Enid presses her lips together hard and nods energetically. She takes what she can get.

When Wednesday gets up and walks back to her side of the room, after having placed the cup of tea and chocolate bar on her nightstand, Enid lies back down on her bed.

How will she survive this? Her hand reaches out and shortly after, her fingers wrap around the chocolate bar. When she takes a first, hearty bite of it, her wolf hums, “She knows us. She takes care of us. We want to take care of her too.”

The only one Enid is going to take extensive care of is her wolf, during the next full moon. When the familiar clacking sounds of Wednesday’s typewriter join them soon after, Enid relaxes at such high speed, that it doesn’t take long for her eyes to close and for her to fall asleep soon after.

She is right here with us.”

The next days bring a multitude of increasingly worrisome moments for Enid. Because her wolf is getting more and more agitated. And with that, she not only becomes more forceful, but also way more embarrassing. And to Enid’s horror, she is having an increasingly harder time stopping all of her attempts.

On Tuesday, Enid is sitting next to Wednesday in botany class. She has not listened to a single thing the teacher has been telling them, instead her eyes are only sneaking glances at the girl next to her. At first, looking at Wednesday and sitting right next to her, is fine.

But then, her wolf believes it necessary to demand more.

Lean over. We want to be closer.”

At first, Enid can still keep herself from doing so. But when a draft of air enters the classroom through an opened window and carries a waft of Wednesday’s scent straight to Enid, she can’t hold back any longer.

As if in trance, Enid leans sideways, until her nose almost touches Wednesday’s hair. Almost - because just before physical contact could be established, Wednesday’s leans further away, looking at her sharply.

What are you doing?” She hisses. Mortification swallows up Enid as a whole. She sits back immediately, her eyes as large as saucers.

“I just - I - there was a spider…on your shoulder, I mean. I - I wanted to get it off,” Enid stammers awkwardly.

Wednesday’s eyes narrow. “With your face?”

“Mhm, yep,” Enid replies, because honestly, she can’t think of any other excuse.

Smooth,” her wolf has the audacity to comment.

You be quiet! This is all your fault.

No, actually it is YOUR fault for not having done anything so far.”

Stop this! You are ruining everything.

Then multiple incidents occur, in which Enid suddenly gets so lost in admiring Wednesday, that the rest of her brain completely shuts off, instead of paying attention to what is going on around her.

Like on Wednesday night, when Wednesday is talking to her about a new case for a good twenty minutes, but all Enid can do, is count her lovely freckles.

“Are you even listening?” Wednesday suddenly asks, narrowing her eyes.

“What?” Enid yelps when realizing, that she has to actively participate in the conversation all of a sudden. She has no idea, what they are even talking about.

Wednesday folds her arms in front of her chest. “What is the name of the victim?”

Enid’s eyes grow wide. Shit. She has no idea. “Um, Jack?”

The face Wednesday pulls unmistakably lets Enid know, that the victim’s name was not Jack.

“And the suspect is?”

Enid’s left corner of her mouth pulls downward nervously, knowing full well, that there is no escape. She tries it anyways. “His…wife?”

At this, Wednesday lets her arms fall down and turns around, facing the notes which are sprawled out on her desk again.

“Sorry! I’m sorry,” Enid says quickly, rushing closer and putting her hand to Wednesday’s arm. Oh, how she loves to be this close to her. But what would be even better is to snuggle up behind her and press her nose against - stop it.

“I’m sorry, Wends. I just - today has already been long, so I think my mind just wandered off. Can you tell me about the case again?”

Wednesday sighs, before turning back to her, starting from the beginning for a second time.

And then comes the incident on Friday.

Enid, Wednesday and some of their friends are gathered in the Quad, standing in line of the Tell-Tale-Café. Everything has been perfectly fine so far, as Enid’s wolf has not decided to speak up at all today. Looking back, she should have taken this as a sign, that something big and bad is going to happen soon.

Enid has just been talking to Divina about the news of their favorite artist being involved in some kind of cheating drama, when Enid suddenly notices Bianca’s hand moving suspiciously close to Wednesday’s head.

“Watch out, Addams,” Bianca says, bringing her hand even closer. Enid’s eyes zero in on it, as rage starts bubbling up inside her like she has hardly ever felt it before.

She can't touch her,” Enid’s wolf growls with such intensity, that the girl can’t ignore it. Her hand shoots up and just a split second later, her fingers curl tightly around Bianca’s wrist, keeping it in place. And most importantly - stopping her from touching Wednesday.

If looks could kill, Bianca would probably drop dead any moment. Enid’s entire body feels like it’s on fire, her nostrils are flaring and she’s breathing as hard as if she had sprinted multiple miles. And to top it all off, a low growl escapes from deep inside her too.

“Enid,” Wednesday suddenly hisses, staring at her.

And that’s all it takes, for Enid to get dragged out of her…slightly possessive state. To say Enid feels mortified the moment she realizes what she’s just done, would be the understatement of the century. Her eyes grow as wide as physically possible and her mouth dries up completely, as she stares at her hand, which is still holding on tightly to Bianca’s wrist, in complete horror.

“I’m so sorry,” Enid almost yells, letting go immediately. What the fuck is happening to her?

At least, Bianca doesn’t seem hurt, as she suddenly snorts and looks at Enid in amusement. “You okay?”

“Oh, um, yeah,” Enid replies awkwardly, feeling herself blush intensely.

No we’re NOT okay. She was about to touch her. Only WE are allowed to touch her.

Shut the fuck up! Please.

“Sorry about that, I just - I - well, I just know, how Wends doesn’t like people getting too close, so I - well, yeah.”

Enid can feel everyone’s stare burning into her skull. Not just Wednesday’s and Bianca’s, but also Divina’s, Yoko’s and those of a few other students, who are standing close to them. Oh my god.

Another snort can be heard, this time from Yoko, who sends Enid a shit-eating grin.

Bianca raises an eyebrow, smirking too now. “I was just trying to make sure that the bee, which was about to collide with Addams, doesn’t actually sting her.”

Great, a bee. Of course. There’s no way Bianca was trying to make a move on her girl. On the girl, for god’s sake.

No, no. You got it right the first time. OUR girl.

Enid chuckles awkwardly, her entire face surely red enough to be used as traffic lights at this point. “Right, sorry about that.”

Thankfully, it is then, that it’s finally their turn to order drinks, saving Enid from this incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassing situation lasting any longer.

But you did the right thing. Nobody gets to steal her from us.”

“A venti rainbow fellacchino, please,” Enid tells the grumpy looking barista, ignoring her wolf once again.

Do it.

“No,” Enid hisses.

Yes. Do it.”

“No,” Enid hisses again, louder this time. Good that she’s in the dorm by herself, otherwise this would be even more awkward.

She is not here and we want to feel close to her.”

“I know that, alright? But I’m not going over there to - to smell her things like a creep,” Enid whispers angrily. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Not a creep. She’s simply our moon.”

Suddenly, this warm, fuzzy feeling spreads out inside Enid, from her head all the way down to her toes. And before she knows it, she’s already halfway to the other side of the room. Enid looks to the opened door of Wednesday’s walk-in closet. She could grab one of her sweaters. Put it on herself and cuddle into it? No, that wouldn’t do. All her clothes in there are freshly washed, she they aren’t really going to smell like her anyways.

No, she needs something better. She needs - her eyes fall onto the perfectly made bed.

In a daze, Enid walks closer and reaches out to grab Wednesday’s pillow. She wraps her arms around it, then hugs it as tightly as she can, pressing her face into it. When she inhales and Wednesday’s scent engulfs her mind completely, she feels like she’s in heaven. Truly. This is the best.

Told you. We need her.

Yes, maybe her wolf is right. So right. Maybe she needs to-

The sound of the door flying open sends a shockwave of terror through Enid. In an instant, she removes her face from the pillow and her gaping eyes meet the confused one’s of none other than Wednesday herself.

“What are you doing with my pillow?”

“Oh, um, it - it actually fell off your bed. I was just picking it up again,” Enid rushes out, pretending to fluff the pillow up, then quickly puts it back on the bed. She chuckles nervously.

“How?” Wednesday raises an eyebrow, watching her closely.

Tell her the truth. Tell her we want to sleep in her bed from now on.”

“I don’t know,” Enid says, trying to sound completely innocent. “Maybe Thing threw it off earlier?”

Wednesday turns around sharply, walking the few steps closer to Thing’s house, before saying, “Have you been snooping around again?”

Wha - wait a second. Oh god, please no.

Enid wishes life would be kind enough to present a large hole, in which she could bury herself in, when she hears tapping sounds coming from his house. Has he really been here all along? Has he…heard her speaking to herself? Or technically, to her wolf? Has he - has he seen, what Enid was doing a few seconds ago?

Fuck.

It’s your own fault for not having taken action sooner,” her wolf sings, entirely too pleased with Enid’s mortification.

“I don’t care,” Wednesday says, before moving to her desk to grab her small, black backpack that she usually brings with her when leaving the school grounds.

“I have an errand to run. I’ll be back soon.”

“Okay,” Enid squeaks, feeling completely helpless in the situation she finds herself in.

The very moment the door falls shut behind Wednesday, a very amused looking Thing comes strutting out of his house. Enid regrets ever having put in the effort to build it for him.

No, she actually doesn’t - but she’s still miffed about him having pretended not to be here. He could have shown himself much earlier, couldn’t he?

Thing stops a little before her, staring.

So?” He signs.

“What do you mean, so?” Enid replies, going for the pretend-I-don’t-know-anything route. Maybe he was asleep and didn’t notice anything?

He knows her. He can tell us, how we can let her know what she means to us.

Cursing her inner wolf, Enid clenches her jaw.

Allow me guess - your wolf?” Thing signs. Enid has no idea, how movements of fingers can look smug, but they do. Oh, how they do.

But the comment surprises her deeply.

How do you know?” She asks, almost gasping.

Thing shrugs his fingers. “I wait for it happen.” Then that little shit goes on with letting his thumb travel over his other fingernails lazily. Oh, he is enjoying this.

“Why?” Enid demands to know, folding her arms in a small pout. How could he have known, when it even surprised herself?

I read many books. Wednesday borrow curious amount wolf books last weeks.”

“She has?” Enid asks, not having expected this piece information. She hasn’t seen any of those laying around.

Yes.”

“Huh,” is all that Enid can think of to say. What’s the reason behind that?

Because she wants to be with us too,” her wolf whispers pridefully. Enid gulps hard. No, that’s - that’s not - that’s only what she wishes would happen. Not the truth.

Why not get over it and tell her finally?” Thing signs, looking a bit more serious than before. He even follows it with a bending movement of his fingers, as if sighing.

“About my wolf talking to me?”

About you love her,” Thing signs, his movements quick and sharp, before straightening up completely.

“What? I do not,” Enid chirps, panic rising inside her.

Again, Thing sighs. “Enid, darling, you unable more obvious.

Hearing this from the one person, who might be even closer to Wednesday than herself, fills her with so much shock and dread and overwhelm, that all Enid can do, is to run back to her bed and throw herself into it, hiding her face against her pillows.

Don’t cry. We should talk to him instead. He can help us.

It takes Thing a couple of minutes to finally get Enid to speak to him again.

Tell her,” is what he signs repeatedly.

“But she doesn’t want to be in a relationship, Thing. You know her.” Enid wipes a desperate tear from her cheek, before resting her chin on her knees and wrapping her arms around her pulled up legs.

I know Wednesday better than anyone. I tell you, tell her.”

Yes! Thank you! Listen to him. Please,” Enid’s wolf agrees with him. But Enid looks at Thing and her lips begin to quiver. “I can’t risk losing her, Thing,” she admits in a whisper.

No lose. Become love. Partners. Life together.”

But Enid shakes her head vehemently. “No, because if she doesn’t feel the same, if she doesn’t want the same, then I have risked our friendship for nothing. I can’t do that Thing. I’d rather have her in my life as my best friend than not at all. I can’t lose her.”

In the end, Thing sighs again, before crawling closer and patting her foot in support. And it seems as if her wolf has at least learned to acknowledge, that this is Enid’s limit too, and is keeping quiet for once.

But then the minutes turn into hours without a single sign of Wednesday returning anytime soon. Which in itself wouldn’t be such a problem. The girl regularly stays out late, oftentimes far into the night and sometimes only returns in the early morning hours.

However - there is a giant thunderstorm outside. It’s raining like hell, lighting is flashing up every few seconds and loud thunder makes Enid think the world is ending soon. And for her, that’s just what might really happen.

She has been pacing the room at increasing speed for the past half an hour. Her heart is racing, her entire body tingles and she feels incredibly dizzy.

Enid, calm down,” Thing signs at her.

“I can’t,” she answers, her panic shining through. She chews on her fingernails, but it doesn’t help either. “What if she’s in danger?”

Yes! We need to go after her! We need to save her and protect her!

No danger. Wednesday capable. She knows what do,” Thing tries to explain.

Don’t listen to him! She is only human. Things happen to humans. Terrible things. We need to go out there right now, find her and bring her back safely.

Enid keeps pacing, the nausea growing more intense with each step.

We need to find her! We need to bring our mate back home!

Enid freezes. Did she hear that right? Her…mate?

Yes, of course you heard it correctly! She’s our moon, our everything. We need her. We need our mate, so you need to get out there now and protect her!”

“I’m going to find her,” Enid says, her mind suddenly made up with such force, that she’d destroy everything and anyone that would try to keep her from doing so. She needs to find Wednesday. She needs to make sure, her girl is safe.

Enid rushes over to where her shoes are, trying to put them on as quickly as physically possible.

Enid, stop! No go! Dangerous!” Thing signs, now looking like he’s panicking too.

But while Enid is sitting on the floor, her fingers fumbling with her shoelaces and unable to tie them properly in her overly emotional state, tears finally break free. The anxiety she feels literally makes her feel physical pain all over her skin. She desperately tries to not think about all the things, that could have happened to Wednesday already.

“I need to go,” Enid cries.

No ridiculous. You can no go outside, big storm!

“Exactly!” Enid yells at him, tears spilling out from her eyes endlessly. With her shoes finally tied well enough, she gets up, before grabbing her jacket and pulling it on. “What if she’s hurt? Or lost? Or - Thing, what if she gets killed?” Her voice breaks completely at the end, hardly getting that last, awful word out at all.

Yes! We need to go!”

No go, Enid!

Don’t listen to him. He’s only a hand. We are a werewolf. We need to protect our mate at all costs!

No, no go! Stay!

Enid sees Thing sign, hears her wolf screaming things at her, all while drowning in desperation and fear. And it all gets too much.

“Will you both just shut up!” She screams from the top of her lungs. She just needs some quiet. To think. To breath. To keep going.

“What’s going on here?” A voice suddenly appears behind Enid. She turns around so quickly, that she almost falls over. There, just in front of the still slightly opened window, stands a completely drenched and startled looking Wednesday. In the short amount of time, in which she could have stood there already, a small puddle of rainwater has already started to form right underneath her.

Relief doesn’t do the feeling justice, which overtakes Enid’s entire being. And with the rain clutching on to Wednesday’s body, her scent becomes even stronger than usual. Which makes Enid’s brain shut off completely.

“Wends,” is all she can get out, before storming to her and pulling the girl into the tightest hug she has ever given her. A sob breaks free from Enid, but she doesn’t care. She doesn’t care one bit, because Wednesday is back. She is here and safe and well and she’s right with her.

Her mate is safe.

“Enid what happened?” Wednesday asks, bewildered. Enid feels Wednesday’s arms wrap around her middle and pulling her closer too.

“Y-you’re o-okay,” Enid hiccups in between sobs. To her great dismay, Wednesday suddenly lets go of her again and even pushes her away. Though only far enough, so she can look at her. The bewilderment in Wednesday’s voice has made its way to her face too. She practically gapes at Enid, looking out of her wits.

What happened,” Wednesday repeats, more forcefully this time, while her hands still hold on to Enid’s shoulders. Enid quickly wipes her tears away, having a hard time calming down.

“Talk to me,” Wednesday tries again, much softer this time. Enid swallows hard, before taking a deep, shaky breath, only for another sob to break free from her, the moment she takes Wednesday’s face, which is right in front of her, in. She can’t remember the last time she lost her shit like this.

“Y-you were g-gone and I - there was l-lightning and I-I was scared something h-happened and then m-my wolf was talking and just s-said I n-need to go after you and s-she wouldn’t leave me a-alone until I found you and t-then s-she said that you’re my - my mate and then I j-just couldn’t-“

Something else Enid couldn’t do, was finish her desperate explanation. Because suddenly Wednesday’s lips are pressed against hers.

And everything inside Enid magically gets quiet. Really quiet. The floaty, magical, almost trippy kind.

At first, admittedly, Enid doesn’t even realize what is happening. All she knows is that her heart feels so much lighter and a feeling of warmth and safety swoops over her. And there is this mesmerizing tingle traveling down her spine. It’s only when her hands find their way to Wednesday’s jaw and neck, and the other girl’s nails beginning to dig further into her hips, pulling her even closer, that Enid realizes it.

Wednesday is kissing her. She is kissing Wednesday.

Suddenly, just as quickly as the kiss has started, it stops again. As if electrified, both girls pull apart quickly, even taking a small step back. For a moment, both just stare at each other with wonder and astonishment written in their eyes.

Enid absentmindedly brings her right hand up to her face, touching the lips, that have just been pressed against Wednesday’s.

We want more kisses please,” the wolf hums excitedly, wagging its tail. And who is Enid to deny her such a wish?

One step forward and she reconnects their lips, her eyes fluttering closed right away. To Enid’s greatest delight, Wednesday doesn’t waste any time to hold on to her again either. Their lips brush against each other, both with passion and care, while they explore this newfound intimacy. Wednesday's lips are cold, much in contrast to her warm breath which tickles Enid's nose in between. But they are also so, so soft.

The very moment they finally deepen the kiss, after a short tease on Enid’s part, with nibbling gently on her girl’s lower lip, her wolf lets out a deeply satisfied, “Finally.”

“Shut up,” Enid whispers, in between kisses. It’s enough to make Wednesday move back, looking at her in confusion.

“Sorry, just my - well, my wolf,” Enid explains sheepishly, blushing right away. Wednesday clears her throat, then asks, “What…did she say?”

“Oh, um, she’s just…happy.” Enid bites her lip. And when her eyes fall on Wednesday’s slightly swollen and definitely darker lips, heat whirls around excitedly in her lower abdomen. Is this real? Like, truly real?

“And…are you happy as well?” Wednesday asks. There is some unusual vulnerability sitting in her eyes, which makes Enid melt all over again. This is, without a doubt, the best moment of her entire, freaking life. And so she smiles, both lovingly as well as timidly. This is a huge deal, after all.

“Yeah,” she whispers, nodding. “I - I may have wanted to do this for quite some time now.” She brings her hand a little higher and cups Wednesday’s cheek. It takes about a second, before Wednesday leans closer again, to resume their previous kiss.

Holy guacamole, how can their kisses keep getting even better? Okay, it’s official now. Enid would die happily, if she were to drop dead any second now. Which she sincerely hopes doesn’t happen, because she doesn’t want to kick the bucket the moment she actually gets to do this with her favorite girl.

I told you our mate wants us too,” the wolf says smugly. But this only brings up a very important question to Enid.

“Wait, wait, wait,” she says quickly, after forcing herself to break their kiss. Wednesday’s eyes take a moment to refocus and it might just be the cutest thing Enid has ever seen. But that’s beside the point right now. “Does this mean - I - I thought you said you didn’t want anything…you know, love and relationship related?”

“I did.”

For a second, Enid thinks the world is tilting again. But not in a good way.

Thankfully, Wednesday continues before she can spiral again. She’s done more than enough of that for one night, thank you very much.

“But it seems as if my heart and mind were not aligned on the matter. I-“ A pause in which Wednesday drops her gaze to the floor momentarily. “I have been trying to find a way to…a way to…talk to you about - about my…growing…f-feelings.” Enid has never seen Wednesday being this shy before. And it makes her want to hug her and kiss her and cuddle her and lick - okay stop. She is not going to give in to her wolf completely. No thank you.

But more kisses and cuddles do sound very appealing.

Enid starts grinning, like Christmas and her birthday and summer break and getting front row tickets at a concert of her favorite band are all happening at the same time. “Does this mean you like me? Like, as more than just friends?”

Wednesday tries to get an answer out multiple times, but when her voice gives in for each attempt, she presses her lips together and simply nods instead.

Okay, time for those additional kisses. Enid pulls Wednesday snug against her and nudges her lips, getting her to part them so she can deepen their kiss again. She’s officially requesting to please get to spend the rest of her life like this. Yes? Perfect. Thank you.

When she needs to break the kiss, in order to get some air in between, she only moves back enough to rest her forehead against Wednesday’s. “Just for the record - I’d like to be more than just friends too.”

Mmh, yes. We love our mate,” her wolf says so happily, that Enid can feel her inner tail wagging again.

Wait - did she just?

Enid’s eyes grow wide again, and she automatically moves her head back slightly. Did her wolf just say - love?

“What?” Wednesday asks again. A little whimper escapes Enid’s throat, before she quickly says, “Oh nothing. Uh, my wolf just agrees.”

“Okay good,” Wednesday says, before pulling Enid back to her.

And for the first time in what feels like forever, her inner wolf can finally rest again.

And Thing? The poor fella already escaped the room ten minutes ago, seeking refuge in Pugsley’s dorm instead. Maybe it’s time to move there permanently.

Notes:

I feel like the more I write, the more ridiculous my ideas become, haha.
Hope you enjoyed this silly little piece!

PS: Yes, I hope Enid's time in her wolf form at the beginning of the third season, might just help her to open her eyes and get her girl already. ;)
