He couldn't even understand how it happened.
One second, he was delighted about finally finding his other half.
The other second, he would've crumbled him.
Shadow Milk Cookie's arms wrapped tightly around you, almost like he never wanted to let go. Your crispy body sank further into his bed, your gaze running over the eyes on the walls of his room.
It was the first time you've seen them there. Usually your master never had a reason to look over his room, considering he spent a lot of his time in it. But now, the eyes seemed to be on every inch of every wall, their thin pupils only focused on one thing: You.
Just half an hour ago you were with his other half, Pure Vanilla Cookie. Or, as Shadow Milk Cookie insisted you said it… "Truthless Recluse." Either way, he didn't seem chatty anyway, and you just wanted to see what your master was so excited about.
You wouldn't say he was horrible company—he didn't talk much, you weren't really able to judge anything yet. But you still listened to Shadow Milk Cookie, who came in a few minutes after you did, asking to speak to you… Privately. You saw how his body language strained. You noticed how his voice couldn't live up to its usual charm. Of course you could tell he was pissed. But what did you do? You followed him.
You naively, obediently walked after him, not expecting to be pushed into a portal right as you walked out of Pure Vanilla Cookie's room.
And it landed you here.
You squirmed as you felt his weight shift on top of you. You could try getting out, but you didn't. Not really.
"Shadow Milk Cookie…" you sighed, feeling him sink further into your chest, refusing to look at you.
He stayed silent for a minute, deciding whether he should say something or not. Finally, he spoke up, his voice oddly soft. "You touched his shoulder."
You hated the way his voice sounded. Not angry. Not disappointed. Hurt.
What made you feel even worse was the fact that he wasn't trying to gaslight you, as unbelievable as it seemed. You did touch his shoulder. You did touch his hand. And you did try to comfort him.
"I was trying to help." you defended yourself, and he finally raised his head slightly off your chest to look at you.
"Help him? When I specifically told you not to talk to him?" he said accusingly, not seeming to realize he was caressing his soul jam, a gesture you'd notice him doing when he was upset or lost in thought.
That made you look away, suddenly realizing how hard it was to look him in the eyes while you had a hundred more looking at you. But his words? They stung, making you feel worse by the second.
"No…" you protested weakly, his weight on top of you making it harder to think. "You said you didn't want to break him yet, but he told me how trapped he felt. I… I couldn't let your plan–"
"He knows nothing!" he suddenly interrupted you, raising his voice slightly and raising up to loom over you. He wasn't much shorter than you, in fact, you were almost the same height when he floated. But seeing him above you like this, it made you feel small, and almost disappointed in yourself from defying his direct orders.
"…He knows nothing." he repeated, quietly now, almost apologizing for lashing out a second ago. You didn't respond, instead placing a hand on the top of his head as he laid back down, shifting so you were both more comfortable.
Actually, you didn't respond for a while. You felt horrible for not following orders, but you also felt he knew you helped. He was always too prideful, anyway…
"…I'm sorry. It won't happen again." you muttered quietly after a while, met with… complete silence, not a single movement or sound. You looked down at Shadow Milk Cookie, realizing he… fell asleep in your arms. Not the first time, considering how much he trusted you, but you still felt colour rush to your face. You gently laid him on his bed, settling next to him and quietly looking at his peaceful face. At least you'd have something to tease him back with after.
Lesson learned, though.
You learned not to make him feel upset again.
Like you'd ever want to…
