Chapter Text
I've screwed up.
------------
Hamilton was pacing back and forth in Eliza's bedroom, shirtless, with his hands gripping his hair. He was frustrated and completely distraught about what to do. He just had intercourse with his soon to be wife, yet he felt so.. lost. He couldn't tell Eliza that all of a sudden he didn't love her anymore, could he? But, he couldn't just lie to her. Hamilton sat down on their bed and continued to hold his head in deep stress. "What is wrong with you, Alexander..?" He gently whispered to himself.
Eventually, Eliza returned from her shower, dressed in fresh clothes. She noticed the evident stress on Hamilton's person and walked over with heaps of worry weighing on her's. "Alexander?" Eliza spoke gently as not to spook the man.
Hamilton paused, looking up slowly. He took a deep breath and then exhaled heavily. "Yes?" He'd answered warily.
"You seem rather troubled.. badly troubled." Eliza started off, fully walking over to sit down next to Hamilton on the unmade bed. "Is something bothering you, dear?" She spoke, voice naturally soothing--but not to Hamilton.. not now. "Maybe you should take a break."
"I am fine, Eliza.. just stress from work, alright?" Hamilton replied, a slight stutter in his tone as he stood up. The ginger haired man grabbed his shirt and put it back on, buttoning it back up.
"I-" She began, but stopped herself. She knew Alexander was horribly stubborn when it came to his problems and she cursed him for it many times, but truly.. what could she do? "Whatever you say.."
-------------
Hamilton was sitting at a bar, drinking his life away. He clearly didn't have the money to pay for it, because his entire source of money was from Eliza. He coughed, slamming his 5th glass of whiskey down on the bar table. Hamilton's head slumped down onto the table, he hiccuped.
The bartender walked over and slapped the back of his head. "Get up, Hamilton, you have to pay. I won't take dish work again, Alexander." Hamilton looked up to see Lafayette, did he always work here?.. (he did, Hamilton is stupid.)
"Woooahh.. You've got like.. two heads, man!?" The drunkard exclaimed, leaning up only to be brought back down by the headache he was developing.
"Hamilton, s'il te plaît(Please)." Lafayette pushed the man's head up, Hamilton's ginger hair stuck to his forehead in small, loose strands. He was sweating, no doubt it was hot inside this bar.
Hamilton's speech continued to slur, he was so out of it. Lafayette decided to call Eliza on Hamilton's phone. He reached down and grabbed it from Hamilton's sweatpants. He tried a few passwords and got in through pure willpower. He then dialed Eliza.
...
...
...
...
"Alexander?!" yelled a panicked voice through the phone. Lafayette winced as he pulled it away from his ear for a moment. He sighed and returned it up to his ear to speak with Eliza.
"Your.. erm.." He didn't know the English word for mari(husband.) "Alexander has drunk himself to enfer.(hell)
Eliza's face behind the screen flashed with confusion at the word, but brushed it off as some french slang. She focused back to the part about Hamilton's horrible drinking problems and frowned. "I'll go get him, Lafayette." She mumbled softly. She usually tries to understand Hamilton when he's like this, but it's been over a thousand times now! At this rate.. she was starting to get upset with Hamilton.
-----------
Hamilton woke up in Eliza's bed, head pounding. He groaned as he shifted away from the sun pouring in from the window. He opened his eyes slowly to see Eliza returning with water and some food in a plate. "Good morning, Hamilton." Dear God, she only called him that when she was really pissed off. Alexander straightened up with slight struggle, he rubbed his temples lazily. "Morning, 'Liza."
Eliza placed the plate down on his lap and gave him the water. "it's the 10th time you've been to that bar.. You'll kill yourself at this rate!" She raised her voice slightly, which was quivering with sadness and anger. She used to despise his ways sometimes, but it was turning into an all-time thing.
Hamilton was quiet, of course he was. He didn't want to tell her that he didn't love her anymore, that he was falling out.
She stood up and huffed, he was impossible! "I'll come back when you aren't being an ass, Hamilton." She even cursed this time, Hamilton really fucked up, didn't he?
And so, he was left with silence and only silence to embrace him.
-----------
"Alexander Hamilton." a voice said through gritted teeth. "How can you screw up your chances with one of the Schuyler sisters?!" It was Mulligan who was on speaker, voice booming through the device.
"Look, Mulli, I just.." Hamilton sputtered, unsure of what to do now. Eliza was basically done with him, and he'd be back living with.. well, he'd be back in another homeless shelter.
"You better get up on your feet, Alex.. at least apologize or something. Also, stop fuckin' drinkin' yourself to death." Mulligan huffed, hanging up before Hamilton could retort.
He sighed, and before he could get time to think, he heard the door open.. Eliza was home. Shit.
Eliza entered through the front door and walked into their bedroom. She glanced at Hamilton, then just took her work vest off as well as the dress shirt underneath. She didn't care about being entirely bare before him, it should be a normal sight for Hamilton. Eliza grabbed a regular shirt from her drawer and slipped it on with ease, then she sat down next to him.
"So, are you finally ready to talk?" She said, tone firm and not as gentle as it normally is.
"I.." He started. "I've fallen out, Elizabeth." He said her full name, his tone more serious than it ever has been.
Eliza paused, that can indicate a lot of things.. but, she had to pinpoint one idea that surfaced in her head first. "You've lost your feelings for me, is that it?.." She said it hesitantly, like she didn't want to believe it herself.
"Yes, yes I have." He reached for her hand, it was delicate and tempting, but he stopped himself. "I'm sorry.. I-I don't love you anymore, Eliza."
"I see." Her eyes suddenly felt wet, they shined wet with salty tears threatening to breach her eyes. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, just.. having Hamilton as just a friend. She hadn't noticed his hand on her shoulder, him pulling her close, him attempting to soothe her.
"I'm sorry." He whispered to her softly, wiping away her tears as the night faded away around them.
