Chapter Text
(Match)

Dear Diary,
This is kind of cliche, like I'm in a movie! I thought I'd start writing now cos I finally get my break time for the day. Seriously, I really took it for granted back in BFDIA, in 20 minutes it's back to learning about sin, cos and tan, whatever those are. Four is such a useless teacher, if he's going to make us suffer for hours on end everyday we could at least get some calculators. Or maybe some good snacks..
Liy is helping me with a lot of the spelling here, my brain is too overworked! Pencil would've helped me out but I haven't seen her in a while, I'd be worried but it's not like she can go far. This is so unfair, Leafy was so lucky that she got a free ticket out of here, at least I wasn't around when she was here and I didn't have to deal with her shenanigans. She can talk a lot and even as someone with a social battery like mine I don't think I could be around her for longer than 10 minutes.
Ugh, Firey Jr. keeps shooting spitballs at us, if you ask me he's the one who's the real problem around here. Whenever Four actually gives us lunch he's always throwing ketchup packets at me. He doesn't know you have to open them first though, what an idiot. Just a small, more annoying Firey dupe. At least Firey wasn't always this up his own ass, Jr. is convinced that he's literally the funniest person on the planet but even Bracelety hates him. Believe me, that says a lot.
He just hit me DIRECTLY in the face, that's it! I'm putting him in his place.
That didn't werk, Fore has just moved me to a sepret room, now I don't have Liy to help me wif my speling.
Okay, it's been three hours and after having to write Four a four page essay on why 'I'm very sorry for lunging at Firey Jr.' and why 'I won't do it again' I've finally been allowed back into the classroom. There's still no sign of Pencil though and I'm starting to get a little worried, Liy told me that they haven't seen her at all whilst I've been busy. We're playing Kiss, Marry, Kill. Here's how it went.
I go first, Liy lists three names, "Needle, Basketball and Pillow."
Ew, none of them sound particularly appealing, maybe Needle on a good day.
"Um, kiss Basketball, marry Needle, kill Pillow. Honestly, it's not even close, she's a lunatic."
"Okay yeah, fair enough. I guess it's my turn."
I smirk, conjuring up the juiciest suggestions I can think of. "Let's see.. Pen, Black Hole and Foldy."
Liy is totally unimpressed by this, she looked totally unimpressed when I asked her how to spell unimpressed. "You're just picking the people I have conflict with!"
"Whatever Liy, just do it!"
"Fine, okay." She pauses, taking a moment to think over her decision. "Kiss Foldy, marry Pen and kill Black Hole."
"Oooooh!" I tease, "Pen huh? Pencil's brother, I would like, totally tell her to put in a good word for you. That is if we ever get out of here."
"He's one out of three options I had! I have a bigger preference for girls anyways. I just would never get it on with Foldy."
"So why'd you kill Black Hole?"
She was going to answer my question but Bracelety totally interrupted her and was interested in playing with us. We all go back and forth for around half an hour whilst Four's having a prolonged smoke break or whatever. Bracelety is so bad at this game though, she won't apply kiss or marry to anyone but Ice Cube.
OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE ICE CUBE IS THE BEST PERSON EVER!
That was not me if you couldn't tell, I personally thought Ice Cube was the most useless member in our alliance, I wouldn't tell Bubble this though.
Okay, so Four came back and we had to stop playing, we tried to explain what the game was and he was so appalled by how we were spending our freetime that he's making us do extra worksheets whilst everyone else can clock out and go to bed for night. This is so unfair! I wanted to go and see Pencil, we've been sharing a dorm room here in the EXIT since I arrived because obviously Four is too much of a shithead to give us our own rooms. I love sharing with Pencil though, we get to have slumber parties whenever we aren't doing algebra until early hours.
Four gave me some extra work to bring back for Pencil as well seeing as she hasn't actually been doing any, wherever she's preoccupied right now. Finally I can get some shut-eye now that I've finished doing equations on Pythagoras' Theorem until my eyes were practically falling out of their sockets.
I'm gonna end my first entry here, since I won't have Liy to help me with my spelling until tomorrow.
- Match.
Match treaded down the dark, sapphire tinted corridors until eventually arriving at her dormitory at the end of the hall. The door was left open by a smidgen, the light coming from inside the room shining a beaming light upon the space around the door. Pencil isn't typically one to leave the door open, even just a tiny bit.
'What's the matter Pencil? What could've possibly kept you cooped up here all day?' Match thinks to herself, her hand enveloping the doorknob. A sob, then another. And then it's clearly a breakdown on the other side of the door. Match freezes, stiff as a rock in her place. Her heart is telling her to burst in there and help immediately, her brain is telling her that Pencil needs space sometimes. As a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve though, she instinctively enters the room.
Pencil has always had beautiful hair, thigh-length silky honey blonde hair. Well, it's dyed from a hardcore brown but nevertheless Pencil has always suited her bottle blonde look. Even Match's precious scarlet curls couldn't top it. Numerous times they've shared the bond of washing hair together, having spa days on weekends and Pencil braiding and braiding until Match's scalp was sore. Pencil's hair couldn't withhold that, but it didn't need to. It's a waterfall, it's free and every strand sits in the right place. Healthy as a horse and worthy of any magazine.
What is this? This isn't Pencil, her hair is her defining feature, this is not her hair. This hair is ruffled, uneven cut way above the shoulders, the honey blonde is practically grey in the dull lighting. Oily and damaged as if it'd been ripped from the scalp.
It's Pencil, Match knows it's her but she doesn't want to face it. Why would this happen? Pencil would never want hair like this, she planned to grow her hair out until she could compete with Rapunzel herself.
Pencil's eyes dart to the figure standing in the doorway, they stare at each other for an awkward, ear-grating fifteen seconds of silence. She begins to sob again, hiding her face into a pillow.
Match's heart switches on, as if she'd left it as she entered their room. Quickly making headway to comfort Pencil, to let her know it was okay. It's just hair, even if they both know it's something much more than that.
The scissors sit sweetly on the edge of the bed, Match finally sees the remains of Pencil's hair laying in a wave on the bedroom floor. She only acknowledges it for a moment, knowing that it's gone and is no longer the issue at hand.
"Oh, Pencil." Match sits beside her, Pencil not waiting a moment to fall into her hold, crying into her shoulder.
"I didn't mean it!" Pencil exclaims, running her fingers through her distressed short trim. "I just- I couldn't-" Pencil tries to explain, but her mind is totally blank.
"You have a lot on your mind." Match runs a comforting hand down the back of her head, The other hand intertwined with hers. Pencil chokes out another sob. "It's okay, I'm here now, Pencil."
They embrace in a comfortable silence for a while, appreciating the company of one-another.
"Pencil.. how long has it felt this bad?"
"..Matchy, I can't do this anymore." She whispers, her voice as tiny as a pin drop. Match's face sinks, her hold becoming tighter and firmer.
"You're scaring me, Pence Pence.."
"I can't stay here forever, I don't want to be here if it means that I'm never going to get out."
"You will, we all will.." Match reassures her, despite not feeling so confident in her words. "We're going to be okay."
"I'm not okay."
"I.. I know."
