Shane walked into the Montreal locker room for the last practice session ahead of a series of away games with an unexpected calm.
Pictures and videos had been posted on the internet yesterday morning of him getting his dick sucked in multiple locations by multiple different men. He'd spent all of yesterday alternating between screaming and raging and having meetings with the brands he'd been aligned to. CCM had dropped him but every other brand had publicly and privately reiterated their support in a way that had led to CCM's stock taking a minor dip as their marketing and legal teams tried to backtrack from the message they had posted condemning his behaviour, as though he wasn't an adult who could have sex or who had chosen to be outed.
Yuna and Farah had been working overtime for the past thirty-six hours setting up meetings, liaising with media houses to control the narrative and making plans with several different teams including Shane's legal team and Farah's PR firm, Shane had been up along with them. He needed to ensure his legacy didn't crash and burn besides he didn't want to take the time to think about who from the Voyageurs had betrayed him by taking those photos and videos, and he knew they were a Voyageur as they were from a series of roadies he had done during the last cup run.
Eventually, everything that could be done, had been done. Public sentiment was largely positive with many persons parroting the positive responses from brands and Farah calling in favours to ensure the news cycle focused more on the pictures being released being a hate crime than his sexuality. His legal team had already sent a strongly worked letter to the League's legal team that implied lawsuits on the basis of discrimination if they so much as stepped out of line and they had responded with a bland communication detailing their commitment to support players and followed it up with a social media post that largely said the same thing. Shane knew Roger Crowell was a bigot on his nicest days but it seemed the League was too busy dealing with allegations of sexual misconduct to try to further destroy their reputation by being publicly homophobic to their star player.
He had released a statement. Many of his brands had, with Yuna's blessing, posted content focused on him to capitalize on his additional publicity and show support, and he was done. The only group left to handle was the team. This was both the hardest and easiest group as Shane knew how the Voyageurs operated and expected no support but he also had been steadily hating his time on the team and maybe he needed a shakeup to make a decision one way or another.
The decision to go to practice was one that no one on Shane's side agreed with. Ilya had begged him not to go near the Voyageurs. JJ and Hayden had messaged supporting him then advised him that Theriault and a few other players had made threatening remarks. Rose had questioned his safety, though Miles sort of understood his need for closure. Farah and Yuna reminded him that his contract allowed for him to call-out and David had tried to physically stop him from leaving his apartment. However, Shane needed to do this. He knew the admin staff and the security at the centre, knew their families, their views and that he'd be safe once they were onsite. Besides, his biggest fear had come through, he'd been outted and the world kept turning. He'd received an outpouring of support from fans, old friends, other athletes and continued support from his brands. He even had a series of unopened emails from the Front Offices of other hockey teams offering him a spot on their team if he was looking for a new home. He still has his loved ones, his panicky situationship, his money and most importantly hockey, if he wanted it. It was time to face the Voyageurs because for the first time in a long time Shane honestly didn't care if he had them.

While I condemn their illegal and hateful attack, I'm not ashamed to admit that I am gay and I am and have always been a proud, though private, member of the LGBTQ community.

A shaky video showed Montreal Voyageurs Coach Theriault arguing with Captain Shane Hollander in the Voyageurs locker room ahead of the team's final practice before they spend the next month on the road.
The video begins with Shane Hollander speaking calmly presumably at Theriault.
"...then bench me. I don't care. I have given blood, sweat and my health for this team and if you suddenly have a problem with me because I'm gay then that's just something you'll have to deal with. I've carried this team on my back and in return all you've done is make me start to hate hockey so honestly you benching me is the best gift you can give me."
By the end of it, Shane sounds defeated. In contrast, Theriault sounds full of anger and hate.
"You think you can threaten me! You think you carried this team on your back? This team doesn't need a faggot who can't even play proper hockey. Hollander, I will ensure you never play in the NHL again..."
"Then do it, make my day. Bench me, I guarantee you I'll be fine. Wish you all the best playing proper hockey. You can email me the details of my vacation."
The video ends with Shane walking out of the locker room and Theriault throwing a clipboard at a wall.

After careful consideration during my vacation including if I wanted to retire from hockey altogether, I have decided to waive my no trade clause and will be moving to a new team once the trade window opens in 24 hours.
